Homemade electric jet engine actually works!

This is a model of a jet engine (scale 1:90) that was made with an electric motor that moves a set of gears, with a flywheel that spins in 16:1 ratio, taken from a flywheel-driven toy car. The best part is that the flywheel makes the model react and sound similar to a real full-size jet engine!

10n out of an electric turbine? That's pretty impressive! For americans who don't know what a newton is, it is the amount of push required to move 2.2lbs at a velocity of 2.2 mph/s. So, this turbine is capable of moving a 2lb object roughly an acceleration of 22mph/s or a 22lb object with an acceleration of 2.2mph/s.

Its not a “electric jet engine”, its a electric ducted turbine. To those who don’t know jet engines are legitimate engines. They use fuel to self perpetuate a spinning axle which (on top of powering an alternator) helps produce thrust. This is just a electric alternator spinning a small turbine. Yes sure it can be argued that its converting electrical energy into kinetic, and thus being “technically” an engine, but along those lines of thinking your average lightbulb could be considered an engine. I just cant get behind that thinking, sorry.

ok since it's electric, this is basically just a fan. A normal jet engine on a commercial airplane (which is the style he built here) uses jet fuel and is a high-bypass turbo fan, the ratio of air that bypasses the inner hot core compared to the cooler air bypassing creates the thrust. Since this has no inner hot core, no jet fuel being introduced into the hot exhaust and no cooler air bypassing the core which is what creates most of the thrust, this really is just a fan. But it looks cool.

Hmmmm, crazy but cool idea : build a small/jet to that scale and then connect it to a remote. Then set up antennas so you can fly it really far... And also put cameras on it so you can see where you're flying, like cameras all around the jet/plane. Don't forget the landing wheels! 😂🤔

Wellll not exactly. The spinning fan of Jet engine is used to suck air inside the Turbine. Propeller gives zero "pull" The actual thrust comes when this air combusts fuel and the thrust is directed out from back of the turbine.
