Thanks for the video. A few years ago I attended a safety presentation at work. The outside consultants mentioned the added safety of metal fuel cans. At home I priced them and yes they're expensive. I decided to try one. After fooling with plastic fuel cans my entire life I have to say the metal can is superior. Metal, flexible spout. Easy to open the valve for flow. Valve opens to release pressure in the sun. Nothing to unscrew. I won't buy another plastic can unless I have to.

I would much rather have the flexible spout. I live on a small ranch ,20 acres and lease 140. I use fuel cans weekly if not daily for tractors pumps, weed eater, chain saw etc. And for me I use old metal gas cans for small things. But sometimes a flexible spout is definitely necessary. Otherwise I use a siphon hose, mostly for my ranch truck and tractors. Your spout seems really cool. Also, I can still find the flexible spouts online, because of course, you can't get anything here in California.

Wow, sure beats the garbage nozzles! I think the pex (cross-linked polyethylene) will be fine outside just like the gas can (likely high-density polyethylene or low-density polyethylene - HDPE or LDPE). The pex fades and becomes unsuitable for the 180psi pressure rating, and the gas can fades and never had that pressure rating. I made a full-flow faucet splitter with pex and it has been fine outside for over 5 years. One of these days it will probably break, but it has already lasted twice as long and flows far more water than the "full-flow" plastic splitters from the Depot.

"Rubber" used in plumbing for water is often EPDM. The one weakness of EPDM is that it is seriously damaged by any petroleum-based substances. Viton is expensive but very durable when exposed to petroleum. Parts of the needed size and shape may not be available in Viton.

I am going to build 2 of these, 1 for gas and 1 for diesel for my 2018 Ram for trips. I think for my diesel can I will add the Pex 3/4” on and off Ball Valve because my Ram has “2” flaps to open to put diesel in. Getting the gas can tipped up that high to get into the actual fill tube will make I mess, big time. I know after trying to put diesel in with my new yellow can and the spout being to short and got diesel all over my pants n shoes.

USE HDPE [black] since it has Carbon Black in it and will hold up to UV rays. Also, I would add, take a fishing swivel, drill small tap hole in the top of your pvc cap and attach a string or wire, chain, etc to keep from losing your cap each time you take it off the can.

IMHO your weakest link is the White plastic end cap is likely to be made of styrene plastic. Gasoline will melt it over time. Ethanol in most gas may also attack some of the other components. Please update us in a few months and again next year.

I use the cans with the green push button. They're not hard to fill pushing the button down, unlike the cans you used to cock. Now those cans sucks the sides in when cold. I have dremel bits. I cut a 1/32" hole in the handle. That vents it just enough so it doesn't splash out. My main can is an Eagle. You have to use a funnel with those. 🐀🐾

I am looking to accomplish what you are doing in this video but was concerned about whether the epoxy would hold up to gasoline so I checked out product online and the label does not mention gasoline resistance. But the JB people answered a question on Home Depot website inquiring as to whether someone could use to repair hole in plastic gas tank and their answer was NO, i.e. "A: We have no items for plastic gas tanks at this time that will last. Eventually the gasoline will dislodge the repair from the polyethylene material." Apr 16, 2023

@@SteveRobReviews Well, I was looking at the specific product in the video and as of last month JB stated they did not make a product that would tolerate gasoline over time. And, when label on product says "Plastics" (for material that product will bond to) one has to research further and inquire as to what type of "plastics." On the HD website for the product in your video and question was asked about whether the product would work on a Dodge bumper and JB answered that those bumpers were urethane and referred them to a 3M product. I will tell you that the JB company really knows their stuff and it is a good idea to contact them with specific use questions. I really like the ideas in your video as I have many, many gas cans over the many iterations of "fixes" imposed on us and just really want to have a dispenser where you remove the cap and pour, like in your video. I am sure you could easily figure out a way to not use the product (like just with compression) that I am concerned that, over time, I would be pouring into my equipment (in other words, if the gas is breaking down the "glue" that I am pouring some of that glue in with the gas).
@SteveRobReviews
@SteveRobReviews Жыл бұрын
So far the gas and diesel does not seem to affect it . If it was constantly submerged, that may be different . I'm trying the JB weld origional epoxy and so far that one is holding up well too.
