Relatively easy fix for the "so called" spill proof nozzle mess.
A similar fix should work on other gas cans.

Very nice. As a person of a particular age, I have a strong aversion to modern product safety - and an extraordinary disdain for adult-proof packaging. If you have watched a determined three-year-old, you will have noticed that they can open damned near anything.

In all honesty the "Before Testing" would have captured language I would not have been able to use in this video anyway. The after testing is left to the viewer... and if they don't like the results (but I assure they will), they can put it all back together as original and fight with it every time they try to use it. If deemed necessary, a small screw will plug the drilled hole.

This is way over-engineered, I have never spilt fuel with a can that has the tube attached and so I don't see any advantage to this.

That red cap fits on the other end of the spout too... So you can keep it to prevent anything from getting into the nozel. It sounds like you struggle with these new spouts a lot more than I do. I like these a lot more than the old crappy crazy straw style ones that leaked like crazy. The only issue I have is that occasionally the hook will slip off the edge of whatever I'm filling and shoot into the tank, but that's not a huge deal. Makes filling some things easier when you can "shut off" the flow with out having to tip the can all the way back down

Ron, thanks for this video. I did similar mods to mine and now don't make a mess with it. I don't have a 3-d printer so I just drape a red shop rag over the opening and get automatic venting. Simple! But yours would be better while transporting... I just make sure it's not going to turn over on the way back from the gas station. Never had any problems and the evaporation is negligible. I like your channel very much!

Thank you. FYI ... I will release a video sometime in Dec for an o-ring seal transport cap and my own self venting nozzle design. If you are a builder / maker person you should consider a 3D Printer. Never thought I would ever own one but started playing around with them last year after shoulder surgery and now I have three of them. The Ender-3 n ow costs less that $200. Thanks for watching! Ron

You cover different territory here as most either try to live with the new poorly designed cans or put in a vent and new spout...or use old cans like me. Interesting video but this is why I go on Craigslist and buy old but okay gas cans that actually work...in my area animals chew plastic cans and are getting into where I store them so I look for metal cans but plastic does have less condensation problems and of course doesn't rust but some metal cans had pretty good galvanization and or coatings... The whole situation is ridiculous! The only thing that might make sense is the addition of a spark arrestor...and even then only if it doesn't compromise my use... As far as even older "Safety Cans" okay on the spark arrestor but as for springed caps I somehow have been able to screw caps back on after use all these years and not just leave open gas cans lying around... so okay, they seem to work but other than a spark arrestor screen as an individual I've never seen why I should pay more for them... although they are usually made well... They are easier to find in metal... In some environments they are required...

Well, I just purchased this thing today. I needed a second can for my 2 stroke and wanted to keep my old can for "regular" gas. As I usually do with new stuff, I opened and assembled it before reading the directions, you know, because its a gas can and how difficult can a gas can be? I measured and poured the mix into the can, and put on the cap and nozzle. I tightened the cap and the child safety tab stuck on the triangle shaped lug on the can, then the tab snapped off! Well, at least that saved me the step of removing such a silly thing. I went to fill the boat tank, but couldnt get a single drop out. So, I look at the label and find the directions. I read through them, then followed the steps..still nothing. I re-read the steps, which tell you to tighten the cap, then loosen to vent. I tried again, nothing. I thought it had to be vented to start pouring, so I slowly loosened it while tipped into the tank. Slowly slowly slowly, until naturally, I started spilling gas. I re-re-read the directions. This went on for 20 minutes, which is 19 minutes longer than using a gas can should take. After some colorful language, I removed the cap, grabbed my funnel, which I used to change the oil on the cars earlier, and had to clean, and simply poured the gas in, and guess what, I didnt spill anything. I put the can in the corner of the garage, simply disgusted. I snapped a pic of the label, and went online to complain, when I came across the video from Midwest Gas Can. I cant believe they had to put a tutorial out, but yeah, just following the label, I dont know how long it would have taken to figure this thing out. No where on the label does it show or explain the nozzle needs to be depressed in order to use. Now that I know this, Im considering an electric boat. Thanks for the Vid.

Joe, One of the better comments I have received in a while. Funny stuff… you should write short stories. :-) I have never spilled so much gas as with one of these “spill-proof” cans. Bureauctacy at its finest. Government mandated cars we cannot work on and user-proof gas cans. And a sealed can, will eventually pressurize and the can will (or can) split. I have had it happen. This video shows how to modify what comes with the can. Result is better but still junk. If you have a 3D printer or a friend with a 3D printer… I have another video showing my design for a replacement spout and a cap (for when you go to get gas) so you don’t spill gas in you vehicle. Some car trunks will not close with the can and spout sticking up. Thanks for watching. Please subscribe. That is what keeps this channel running. Ron

This is a great video.✅ Can I give you my address to make me spout cap like the one you made with your 3-D printer? I cannot believe how difficult they made a gas spout. Definitely over engineered it. I ended up using a funnel. Mine also leaked all over the place before the funnel like you said. I’m going to give it another shot. If it doesn’t work again, then I’ll take it all apart! There’s a guy on here that has a video where he takes out the spring, then removes the gasket… And cuts the child proof tab. Works pretty good after that it’s on The Harbor Freight website.

I just bought this can in 2022 and it worked flawlessly. Maybe others who have had a good experience or knows why it's better than this video charges. I have no problem with removing it to put it in the trunk. It seals snugly for transport. Frankly an extended spout is screaming danger danger in a trunk just from fumes alone. Replacement seals are available through the company.

Thanks for your video ... I don’t have a 3-D printer but I took a 99 cent pair of harbor freight snips and cut the excess “catch” plastic off of the child proof cap and use the original. Those dimensions would be good if you lost the original so great content.

Always found wanting with jerry can/tank nossles. The accordion style flexible ones are my least favourite as they alway fail on the accordion. Polyethylene Pe and The high density type that the gas can is made of are highly resistant to gasoline. Wouldn't it make sense to use a cap that can use a standard plumbing size of pe pipe to transfer the fuel with a small breather?

Are there any other reasons to keep your gas can out of the sun other than the colour, my dad's one has gone pink over time and I just would like to know
@RonaldWalters2010
@RonaldWalters2010 5 жыл бұрын
A gas can sitting out in the sun will heat up and evaporate or gas-off faster. Plastic which has deteriorated in the sun has been weakened. You may use it one day and the can will in some way fail... such as split. Just a matter of time.
