homemade go karts (MK1 and MK2)

here's a couple of go karts I made, one has a 23cc scooter engine and the other has a 180cc 4 stroke water pump engine.

Nice go karts, looks really fun! Would you be willing to show us how to build the Mk1? I really want to build a simple go kart this year but my resources are very limited (as is my mechanical knowledge lol) :/ Is the Mk1 relatively easy to build? I don't need anything fancy, just enough to carry 1 average-sized person up to 35km/h (~21mph), and of course as cheap as possible lol.

you should hook air tank up to an air piston motor. a challenge to build one and drive your go carts around. When you see it works you can build one for your car... I have designs for one on my you tube channel....never pay for fossil fuels again... hope this brings a good day to the world around....

How have you build the steering?

Bastian Reis my guess is there's a pivot point right above the front wheels, and a bar traveling between the wheels (infront or behind pivot). turning the steering wheel pivots the wheels around their pivot points, causing the whole cart to turn.

I dunno what make it was or anything but it was about £30 on ebay and it was for a 19mm keyway shaft engine

oh thanks. im trying to make one mydelf, and i got the thing working, but theres some quirks. do you have any tips for the chain, or the when you push the accelerator, its either rellyfast or nothing, like responce from the gear?just wonderin.

JK JIBJAB Oh check whether the terminals for the throttle cable outer are bending. It may be that when you press the throttle pedal these parts bend, store up a load of energy, then suddenly overcome the friction of the cable and jump straight to full throttle. Also you can remove the cable inner, pour some oil down the outer (engine oil will do) and re-insert it, then it will have a lot less friction.

JK JIBJAB A CVT? You can buy ones that bolt straight onto go kart engines with 19mm and 25mm keyway shafts but they're quite expensive

The wooden one is one wheel drive and the faster one is 2 wheel drive with a solid axle. If you're building one I'd say one wheel drive if it's under 4hp ish because then it will do tight corners easier but 2 wheel drive if it's more, to stop it pulling to the side when you accelarate

All I needed for the steering was a drill, hack saw and files, I built these go karts before I learnt to weld. It's the steering rack from a Citroen saxo (or Peugeot 106) and go kart stub axles. That's for metal go kart, the wooden one was a lot easier- it's a car steering column (VW polo) with a cam belt wrapped round the bottom connecting to front axle.
