I’ve made 3 of these (one for a friend). I pretty much copied Randy’s system. I used the harbor freight silver bag 9’x7’ with there small black cable ties. Total was about $9.00. My bag (2nd year of useing it)finally ripped from catching it on a large sharp flagstone. I just cut the bag off at the rear and now it’s about 1/2 of the original size. One thing I would to try and add is putting a thin sheet of plastic (like from a sled kids use to go down a hill) across most of the bottom of the bag. When it gets full the weight slowly wears the bag and makes it vulnerable to tears. The plastic would help the bag slide across the lawn.
@Liledgy1005 жыл бұрын
I also put a cable tie across the mouth of the bag slightly larger than my grass gobbler. And wrote “top” on the bag so I always put it on the same way.
@BigWesLawns2 жыл бұрын
Would a duct tape pad on the bottom work to insulate from tearing? I use it on my heavy bag to stop it from tearing, has worked for years. 🇨🇦👊🏻👨🏻🏭✨💖👌
@HandyGuy20162 жыл бұрын
That would work great I think.
@tedbownas27485 жыл бұрын
Cool. I'm guessing it would work better on larger lawns with long straight runs and fewer obstacles around which to mow. You could also build a little sulky with a pair of wheels to support the bag; that would let it roll easier and not get dragged off before it's full.
@HandyGuy20165 жыл бұрын
Definitely, my yard is pretty small. There are a lot of ways to modify this system to work for different scenarios. I like the simplicity of it, and lack of moving parts.

Enjoyed and appreciated the thorough assembly and testing video. A couple of questions: 1) Did you find the 10-mil thickness of the tarp you used here to be adequate, or would you go heavier in future? 2) If you were to do this over again, would you use the same size tarp or a smaller/larger one? 3) What was the reason you folded the tarp lengthwise rather than widthwise? You stated early on in the video that it would be evident later on, but I never picked up on the reason. 4) Did your idea of stacking the bags on a trailer work reasonably well for loading / unloading? 5) Per your more recent videos, I see that you're now using the Protero PV18 on the Ferris Z3X. Which collection system do you prefer, and why? Thanks again for the video! Recently found your channel and have been enjoying the archives.
@HandyGuy20164 жыл бұрын
1- 10 mil is good. 2- same size tarp. 3- to fit better on the catcher. 4- yes, especially on a small budget. 5- I did this video to help people who are starting out without a bagger like the Protero. I already had the Protero system when I did this video, but I always have a backup plan.
@HandyGuy20164 жыл бұрын
5- I prefer the Protero, but it's expensive compared to the catcher and tarp bags.

I wanted to see what chute blocker you are using with the rackem bagger and if they both work together or did you have to make changes I currently have a chute blocker on one mower and an accelerator bagger on another because they will not work together , any info or maybe even a video etc on this would be helpful , thanks for your info.

I have a video on that in my Dependable Lawn Care playlist, but the Quick Chute is what I use and I don't have to remove it to use the grass catcher.

Could you attach it directly to the chute if you don’t have a leaf catcher? TIA
@HandyGuy20164 жыл бұрын
I think you would need an adapter of some kind, because I don't know how you would physically attach it to the deck.
@1thinkhealthy5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. What if you wrap some tape around it loosely when it's in place and then attach a rubber strap to the bottom of the bag somehow. This would give the opening the basic shape. You could then pull the strap up the sides and connect them up top.

To me, I prefer a bagging setup such as this as it doesn't put any downforce weight on the mower as does a side mount bagger on a stand on mower. Obviously the prefessional side mount bagger unit manuvers much easier and you can back up BUT when the ground is wet, that's where the ruts start appearing.
