ON the Compleats, in the wake of Hurricane Helene, I was already well stocked with them. Chicken alfredo, Swedish meatballs, dumplings with chicken, and Salisbury steak. Three of each. With flame I could cook my breakfast no problem, but I'd throw two Compleats in my mussette bag for the day, with two big pinches of bread. While I was busy removing debris, I didn't have time to really cook anything, but the Compleats are already cooked, so I could rip one open, have my pinch of bread with it and it was already good to go. I love the Compleats, and after the hurricane I definitely stay well stocked on them. They also have a really decent shelf life, so I can maintain my stock for a good while.

The mac was made with blue bonnet margarine and powdered milk. I do not eat that anymore. Even though, my son loved it as a kid. But, I still eat spam and potted meat. We just had spaghetti last night and didn't have any parmesan cheese. I briefly thought about adding Franks hot sauce, but went with garlic salt instead. I never heard of peanut butter in tomato soup. I love peanut butter, so I may try it if I remember the next time I have tomato soup. I grew up dipping grilled cheese sandwiches in it. I always add mustard to cheese sandwich after it is grilled. It calls for delicate timing to be able to pull the bread apart before the cheese cools too much without burning your fingers. After the sandwich is gone, I add crushed saltines to the soup. I don't have children, but it is nice that you note items that may not be the best fit for children.

As you noted, Pad Thai is often made with Chicken and has a peanut sauce. Chicken satay is usually grilled or roasted chicken with a peanut butter based sauce. A former coworker who was from Ghana brought in and shared something that he said is a common/traditional soup in Africa. It was a peanut butter based soup with Chicken. I can't stand the stuff that is actually labeled 'potted meat'. I do like the Underwood Devil stuff, though. I think the chicken is kind of bland, though. I like the roast beef the best. In fact, it is one of the canned items that I include in my canned food preps. I remember when Kool-Aid pickles were a thing that became popular. At the store one day I saw jars of a few, different flavors that a pickle company was making. I think the fad kind of died and I haven't seen any, lately. I can just see an underground freeze-dried candy deal going down on a street corner... "Hey, man, you holding," the dealer looks around, "Yeah. And this is the good Mexican stuff. Primo," then he pulls out a baggie of freeze-dried Carlos V chocolate bars. Which, by the way, if you have never tried Carlos V chocolate bars I recommend that you do. Now, I'm not saying they are Godiva level or whatever but something about the richness and mouth feel makes me think they are just a bit above a regular Hershey bar (or maybe I should say Nestle bar as Nestle bought the brand several years ago)

Yeah that’s a shame given the lackluster inventory

Potted meat is a different product than either deviled ham or chicken spread. Potted meat can contain various cuts of a combination of beef, pork, and chicken. Being raised around all of those products, potted meat, to me, isn't as good of a "meat food".

Yeah it’s kinda made from leftovers after all the other leftover creations are made.

I’ve found that expiration dates mean nothing. It is a date forced by the government. It’s really sad that the government basically forced food to be thrown out into the trash. Very wasteful
@dadbudgetadventuresАй бұрын
That’s not exactly accurate but best by dates are not a definite cutoff.

I tried the spaghetti and found it too salty to eat.
@dadbudgetadventuresАй бұрын
I can see that. It is oversalted.

I haven't liked the Dollar Tree since they raised their prices.
@dadbudgetadventuresАй бұрын
Kinda seems like the name should have changed with the prices.

I do not like the store combo. Not enough Dollar Tree, too much Family Dollar.
