Seeing this reminds me that there are few things as thrilling (within the context of safety) as that feeling of knowing that you’ve got to reef a dinghy sail, when conditions have gotten beyond the design limit. So you put that reef in and go feeling your own weight and the force of wind in the sail can each overpower the other and even if you are not going as fast as before, (usually things have gotten choppy by then), there is so much energy around you and in the midst of all that, things go totally level in the tack.

I sometimes wonder with all the sail and the narrow beam and and all the strong gusts we have been submitted to how I have never capsized my GIS in 4 season! I must admit I thought I would take a dive a few times already!😁

This is such a pleasure to watch! It’s been a long time since I sailed last time and this makes me wish to sail again :) And these od traditional boats you ate at, it’s interesting how similar in design they are to traditional fishing boats in Croatia. At least to my layman’s eye.

Hi, I believe is habit from old days of optis... 😁 Also sometimes if you sit too far forward (as you should on the GIS) the tiller extension might not reach the sheet hand and the teeth are the next best option! 😁

Hi Doug! Yes the GIS is quite fast and is a planing hull. Unfortunately I only just got a GPS so next time I get strong winds I'll be able to measure the speed. Stay tuned! 😉

@@TheBoatRambler Teo se não for muito complicado transportar o barco até à Santa Luzia, podia-mos fazer um acampamento e dar umas voltas! Aqui há sempre vento, mas sei que não é fácil andar com o barco de um lado para o outro. Se viesses convidava também um amigo que andou a montar uma vela para um barco insuflável, assim já tinhas conversa com ele :D Gostei da ideia de gravar-mos juntos, abraço!
