I had an old sail boat with an old Evinrude motor. I was always waiting for the motor to kick. Every time it would act up, I managed to clean the plugs, change oil etc., and it would always come back. Anywhoot, the city began to gentrify. Speed boats, motor boats, tour boats, yachts, cigarette boats, and drunks started showing up on the river. Sone tried to capsize my boat. So, I had to give it up. Your river is so peaceful and beautiful. You and your family enjoy while you still can. Just a lil story for yall. Hope you starting that motor in a bucket of water. Waiting for your next project!

It can be a pretty sad reality and boaters can be petty toward others when they spend 20, 30, 40, .... 70k plus on a boat. If you are on the water safely enjoying yourself - peace be with you and have a good time, irregardless your setup. Best part about your boat = No payment!

I love it! You get to do what other metal or glass boats can't. Totally customizable at any time. In hindsight, if you had run the deck boards over the barrel sides, you could have drilled angled holes that would have served as rod holders where the rod butted against the barrels. In your other video, it was great seeing you pull up next to the fancy boats. Yall had just as much fun, were just as there as they were for a fraction of the cost and NO PAYMENT!

big little tip.... exhaust, ditch the muffler for pipe into the water 2-3" deep. you'll ditch over 1/2 the noise (it's exhaust slap). a nipple, a 90, steel pipe (short stuff threaded both ends for ya already at a hardware store), couple 45's to tuck it down the outboard leg, maybe another 45 to point it back in the water (behind prop wash). easy and does wonders! did a 4hp Briggs to a 6hp outboard leg about 20 years ago, it wasn't fast but it never quit!

I am wanting to try that soon. Thanks for the comment and for watching.

I like the design for your home-made boat. Plastic, 50 gal. barrels, steel strapping, pressure treated lumber on top of a lumber frame. I've got to find a place that sells 50 gal. plastic barrels to make one for my wife & I. She loves to go fishing in a pontoon boat. It's easy for her to get in from the dock. She just steps from the dock to the boat. To be able to get up and walk around and stretch out your legs once in a while is good as well. Not like in a row boat, where you're sitting down all day fishing. My grandfather used to live in Goulds, Fla., south of Homestead. We'd fish those canals for bass and sometimes out in the ocean for red snapper. < That red snapper is some good-tasting fish! Thanks for making these videos, chud327.
@chud3276 жыл бұрын
If you build one, please snaps pictures of the build and send them to me! You are right about getting up and walking around. I had a jon boat before this and you would get sick of just sitting all day. I have a red snapper video on here, but we had to put them all back... I was so sad know how good they taste, but could not put any in the cooler... Thanks again for all the fun comments.

Hey dude Great homemade Pontoon! Before U say oh here we go, hear me out! lol. The only thing id have done any different: Would be to have took about 3-4 cans of spray foam insulation & shot my 6 barrels full & then put my plug lids back in! This would have kept ur barrels nice & fat from getting dents in them in colder water. Also it would totally assure you to continue to float just incase you hit anything to puncher your barrels! Thats the only thing i wouldve done any different! Great build Brother, Kudos to you for such an inquisitive mind!!!!

Saw your reply on the peanuts. Wanted to say you can find lots of block styrofoam in dumpsters. It is a fun activity and your boys could help you do a little round the town dumpster dive. I have seen some really good coolers in petco dumpsters they import their koi fish in bags inside these coolers. And a lot of furniture stores pak stuff in styrofoam. I'm sure you could break it up and put it in your pontoons to help with barrel flexing. You'd be surprised what all you can find for projects in dumpsters.
