Excellent advice, thank you. Now I know the dims for the drift I will have a go and do my ‘79 T140E handle bar mounts.

I did mine about 4 years ago without any special tools while I had the front end stripped down. I used a length of studding with various nuts, washers and sockets, first to pull the centre sleeves out of the rubber (the 40 year old, original rubbers didn't put up much of a fight), then to press the old outer sleeves out as I pulled the new ones into place. No hammering, and not much swearing, involved.

Now I’ve made it I probably won’t need it… 😂 By pure luck I’ve made it small enough I can use it with a G-Clamp so I can hopefully press them out gently.

I just did this job a few weeks ago. It was a huge pain in the ass without the tool. I found a socket that fit on the outer race of the rubber insert, but I was whacking away at that thing with a hammer I couldn't get it to move. Eventually I got the middle part to come out, but that left the outer race stuck in the hole. I think having the tool or the one you made would have made life easier. I finally got so frustrated I took a hack saw blade to the inside of the outer race and cut through it enough to pound it out. The second one I was able to bang out, but it took a lot. Having the guide part of the tool and a big surface to pound on is the key to getting those buggers out cleanly.

I’m in smug mode now… 😂 Hopefully doing the bushes in the next couple of days so you’ll see how I get on.
