Homemade Tuna Cat Treats Your Cat Will Go Crazy For

We're so excited to share this recipe for diy cat treats with you! Introducing our homemade two-ingredient tuna cat treats, that take just minutes to make, and are naturally grain, gluten and dairy free!
You can make this recipe in your airfryer or bake in the oven. If using your oven, you may need to add a few minutes to the cooking time - keep an eye on the treats as they bake and remove them when they are golden brown and unstick easily from the baking parchment below.

Allow them to cool fully, then transfer into airtight jars for storage. If kept cool and dry, they should store well for 1-2 weeks. Happy baking!

It does depend a lot on how large you make them! Assuming a batch of 50, they work out about 4 kcal each. It’s recommended that treats make up no more than 10% of your cat’s daily food intake - so for a 4kg/~9lb adult cat that would equate to around 5 treats per day. Hope that helps!

In theory any cooked, cat-safe meat with a low fat content should work well with this recipe (eg boiled chicken breast, boiled white fish). Let us know how it goes!

I'd see IF your cat actually eats the tuna in oil first. My cat is as picky and spoiled as ever tho. She's the only one I've ever had that gets canned food breakfast daily. I haven't met a cat that does not like tuna tho.

Sadly a microwave won’t work for these treats. They require air moving over them in an air fryer or oven to dry them out.

In our tests (with an Instant Vortex model) they had enough ‘stick’ to stay on the baking / parchment paper and not fly around. If yours is ultra strong you might want to keep an eye on them through the window, if it has one - if they’re cooked enough to show any signs of moving at all, they’re done!

The egg white gets cooked at the end in the air fryer, once mixed with the blended tuna. Hope that helps!

This recipe is a little bit like a meringue (without the sugar) in that it uses the egg white to get its crispiness. In our tests with egg yolks included, the treats didn't crisp up and perished very quickly because of the water content, but if you're going to use them right away it could work! Or you can use the egg yolk for some human cooking - it's great for homemade mayonnaise or lemon curd!
