Not an expert, but I'm pretty sure the ants at 7:00 are cleaning each other. They don't have sponges or little ant-sized bathtubs, so they lick themselves and others like cats to clean up. What, precisely, got them feeling dirty enough to do that in a big ball is beyond me, though. Maybe it was the likes begging immediately beforehand? :V

they are cleaning themselves and each other because fungus grows on them then will kill them and that's why they clean each other and they also clean there mandibles/antennas because that's how they get around the nest and communicate with the other ants of the colony and it has some sort of pheromone that produces something to tell that they are from that colony so that's why they do what they was doing they was cleaning themselves.

8:10 since those hoses usually hang 5mm in the air I put a small sloped rock 'ramp' right in front. I also used a bit of hot glue to secure the hose inside and outside (just half a circle so it keepts the hose from slipping further in/out ruining my ramp) It helps ants greatly to bring stuff home AND if you want to limit the size of food being brought home you can make the ramp tall enough to cover 50% of the entrance. Mine tried bringingback entire crickets but couldn't fit it - so they ad to take it apart/eat it outside. It can help with nests being a bit cleaner overall.

Once I wanted to know what species of poppy is used in the kitchen for bread with poppy seeds or cake with poppy sugar mass. So I bought a packet of seed from the supermarket and at the time I had a whole bed of open fluffy soil so I just threw the whole 250 grams of poppy seeds in there. Didn't water the seed down, decided weather would do it anyway. Some hours later of no rain I noticed an ant trail on my terrace which led under a flower pot. Underneath the flower pot there was the same amount of poppy seed that I had thrown out earlier. Needless to say that I didn't get a single poppy plant that spring. They missed not a single seed. I still don't know what poppy species is used in the kitchen. Seed collecting ants are very cool, I was very impressed.

No ant expert here but I think it's possible they are licking each other to exchange the scent each gathered on their bodies from the new nest to decide if there is anything spooky in the new nest or not. I imagine it like "I rounded that corner and it smelled a bit off but I couldn't detect a real threat, what do you think about the smell that was a bit off? And what do we think about that new space as a group after throwing all our collected scents together?" They do group think and so I can imagine that at some point they have to gather and pass on information to the others. Bees dance, maybe ants lick each other? I mean, these ants were all scouts of the new territory, right. Before the decision to move the whole nest. I know that other species for food sources they just mark the trail with pheromones and the more ants walk the path to food the more strong the scent trail gets and after a while all ants walk that one path. But I don't know how moving nest gets decided and maybe scouts gather and lick each other before taking the huge risk of moving all their larvae and queen?
