Man I’m a retired welder fabricator of over forty years, and I’m putting you up there with me brother. lol. Really nice work. That thing doesn’t play , I would like to see it split some hard oak or maple, just to see what it does. But I have to say, you did a fine job building it. ✌️👍. Oh one more thing, I would love to see it with the shrouds off to see just a bit more. I am impressed for sure. I’ve been doing fab work most of my life. It’s good to see someone else that does the same thing. The few jobs I’ve had working for someone else, when you’re good at this type of thing they always leave you to do your thing. It’s like being your own boss even though you work for someone. I know I drove a lot of people crazy because I don’t ever get yelled at and people do get jealous of the respect I always got. I always enjoyed working because it is something different all the time. Good luck to you brother. ✌️

Little bit of advise. Put your earth clamp on the piece you are welding, the shaft in this case, rather than letting it earth through your bearings. You've just shortened the bearing life due to the little arc marks that will be on the bearing races 😢

The quick snap action is something you just cant get from hydraulics unless you spent real big, and being mechanical as long as its oiled and greased it last long enough to be mighty useful 😊

You designed a very clever device to split firewood. It is the all-around best design I've seen. I have looked at a lot of them in the last 65 years. I think it will stand up on its back wheels and rest on the motor adjusting bolt to store in less space. To do that, it needs something sturdier than a piece of all-thread. The execution is first-rate as well.

Having worked as a foreman in a factory and seeing similar , press, machines in operation I just suggest having a two handed operating system. Perhaps some method of ensuring the second hand is needed to ensure the pushing operation goes into action. The idea is good, the engineering perfect. Human error is the problem. There is always a second or so of inattention after many repeat operations, that's when an accident can happen.

great idea...if the main shaft was always connected going forward you could have achieved the clutch by a pully to the belt from motor... on the main shaft it would have needed to be spring loaded and your mechanism would have also have needed to be fitted...only difference would be there would not be a clunk of gears when engaging.

It's hard to tell which is better: you're video production skills or your engineering/fabrication skills.
@dylano72425 ай бұрын
Ive owned both. The kinetic has way more moving parts,more parts that break. And many kinetic splitters dont get made long production runs , so when break you have to fix them yourself and find belts, bolts, beams, fly wheels or do welding. Hydraulic splitters even if break its quite easy to find aftermarket Hydraulic lines, seals at auto parts or farm stores. And Hydraulic splitters are cheaper to buy new and used.
@1timby2 ай бұрын
I wonder why we never see one of these in a stand-up model. This would prevent back fatigue with loading the log and take advantage of gravity to assist the kinetic splitter.

Nice build but I've never been in a hurry and the one I got will split or cut anything. It's not fast but it's not supposed to be, and it's hydraulic. And backwards form yours. I just have to deal with the splits instead of the blocks. And I split oak and maple, usually from 18 to 24 inches through and at least 18 inches long. The crotches are the worst but nothing stopped it yet. You just stand off to the side when it starts. Been known to sling fair sized chunks Thanks!

Is there a way to compare it to the tonnage of a hydraulic cylinder to get some kind of idea of what it can do? I really like the seriousness of that splitter but it can be deceiving by the wood you were splitting. One thing for certain is there is no forgiveness if your fingers are in the wrong place. I’m dealing with so much variety with the wood that I split and burn,so I’m more comfortable using my hydraulics. But I can definitely see a purpose in a more perfect world to have and use the one you built. I’m getting old and slightly slower nowadays but I think I might have preferred yours some years back. Thanks for sharing your work ethics, knowledge and build. Peace

You must not be a welder if you don’t know that is not the weld you are looking at; That is the flux cap from fluxcore wire. Technically this is not MIG welding because no inert gas is being used as a shield. It is wire welding, but not MIG welding.
