We used to drive over to see the display every year. It was beautiful. What the neighbors and 20/20 conveniently chose to leave out of their 'story' was that he collected donations, not for himself, but for children's charities. There was a person dressed as Santa Claus stationed at the peak of the circle accepting donations, and people gladly gave for the children. He started putting the display together in August, dedicating four to five months to creating a spectacular holiday light show. It may have been an inconvenience to the neighbors for a few weeks, but because of their small mindedness and lack of thinking of anything else but themselves, they now have a year long display that reflects their callousness right back in their faces. To have all that goodwill ripped out from under you must have been devastating to Mr. Ansell. And 20/20 should be ashamed of themselves for their shoddy, half assed reporting.

If it's too bright. Buy some black out curtains. As for any noise from traffic, get used to it. Where I live, every Friday night during Football season the school is actually setting off cannons (the sound). And I'm no where near the school and their fireworks light up the sky so much it looks like lightning in the distance. Then come Saturday, the racetrack starts and if you're super quiet, you can hear the thrum of the engines while inside. If it's not on your property and you don't like it, too bad. And even so where I live, few days after Thanksgiving I urged my husband to get the Christmas lights out and on, cause our street was dark. The majority of the people who did put out their lights moved. Now that our bill situation is better, I have "plans" next year for Christmas lights.

I live right near this house, and it did not start out this way. Colloquial story-My family moved to Pittsburgh in 1996 and this house was incredible…our first Christmas here my dad took us to see the amazing display. Driving by the house was a holiday tradition for many families; ppl looked forward to it each year. Ppl would leave donations to help w the Duquesne light bill…the community loved it. Then some neighbors complained so much about the traffic and whatnot that the township made him stop (via fines, I think?). It broke his heart and soul-this man lived for this. Then the display became what it did. I haven’t been by in years-this video is seven years old so I’m not sure if it’s still there. So sad-just all of it.

He should have sold up and bought a house on a main road which was more accessible and he could have kept up the tradition of the display. A small cul-de-sac was never a suitable location for this type of display. It was obvious to anyone with half a brain that the traffic would impede other neighbors from getting in and out of their homes. I had to go read the comments below to get the real story. So, I don’t blame this guy and these neighbors are the types that are never happy and always have to be up in your business because they have nothing better to do with their time! If I were Bill, I’d add new shit daily! Besides, I’ve seen ‘Fear Thy neighbor’ on the ID channel. I don’t care what my neighbors do, so long as they don’t talk to me and stay out of my business! Can we get Bill’s address so that we could donate decorations and such to his cause?

Sweet Probably You pretty much hit the nail on the head...there's a whole other side of the story that the neighbors neglected to tell so they could play the "woe is me" card. Before Bill snapped, Pam and the rest of them constantly called the cops on him for stupid reasons, including his beautiful display, leaves blowing off his yard, and a bunch of other crap to the point where police began to patrol by his house regularly and give him tickets for equally stupid reasons. All in all, Bill is just an aggravated man in this story, and all the neighbors (Pam especially) are a bunch of butthurt killjoys who basically got a dose of karma from Bill.

All the neighbors want to do now is leave. He has won, and they admit it they were wrong to complain about all the light pollution making it impossible for them to get a good night sleep. That would make anyone furious, and maybe in their sleep deprived state they weren't as kind as they could be. THEY can't even sell their house to move now.
