The players of 90 from all team had a different aura. Sachin, Azhar, Wasim, Jayasuriya, lara, Walsh, Waugh brothers, flower bros, Donald list is endless. Era of beautiful cricket.Still remembers the quaterfinal of 96. Cricket just lost its charm. Cricket was emotion now its just entertainment.

Everyone remembers Dean Jones' 210 at Madras, and Matthew Haydens 2001 tour of India, but nobody speaks about Damian Martyn's 2004 tour to India. 444 runs at 55. Most runs in the series from either team.

I remember this ,even in wc 2003 final and 2006 ICC CT also he delivered similar performance . At many occasions he always deliver his best . He is champion cricketer anytime . But I don’t know why he retired so early . I felt very bad because I missed his batting .
@mediabots

@@rasl2300 do some research , its all because Aussie selectors & team management want to replace him with THE Watson, an average batter & bowler (probably he has a big daddy with $$$x). Anyway, due to corruption, Aussie has no reputation in todays cricket. Winning a World Cup in home ground is childish as well as rabbish.

Man I loved Damien Martyn. I remember I was 12 years old during the exotic 2006/2007 ashes, seeing Marto going through the form slump but I'd always betted he'd bounce back. I was stunned to see such a legend retire in the midst of that ashes. I think he had come of age but it would have been awesome to see him off with the rest of the stars at the end of the series.

Total class , his style has never been replicated by any player that ive seen in 50 years, the way he went out was also class the fact that he pulled up short before the Perth test was proof he is not a bigheaded money grabber like the lot we have now. People will have different opinions , but he did it his way , without withering and failing in the end as a batsmen. The quite achiever. Well done Marto

He was kinda emotional I guess. I heard that he made a mistake in his early career and because of that Australia lost a test match and he could not make his comeback in the side for 6 years. Well still a class batsman and underrated player. As he was playing with likes of Gilly, Ponting, Hayden, he didn't get that much limelight he should have.

He wasn't dropped because of that dismissal. He did score an impor5ant half century in the first innings. But Steve waugh was out injured and came back the next test. So Martin was dropped and a subsequent loss of form at state level meant that he didn't regain his spot 5 tests later against Pakistan when Border retired.

I have seen him pull his team through tough sessions in Test match with elegance and hardwork.. Somehow mark gets more mention than Martyn just becos of more runs. I am sure Martyn, had he stayed, would have had more match winning innings than many in that team. his retirement was shocking but it had do with team politics and inter squad rivalry. It was reported that he had spoken to Ponting about it and Ponting had asked him to continue playing but he chose to retire. In this way the Australian system is better. The never allowed these incidents to come out in public. For e.g. Mark Taylor and Steve Waugh did not like Gilchrist and they continued to prefer Healy but he came into the side at a late age and proved himself.

An absolutely brilliant batsman, and a delight to watch... and, as good as his record is, can't help feeling he's probably underachieved. But, evidently, was never comfortable with the rigours and demands of being a modern-day professional cricketer. Several times, came across as arrogant, brusque, hostile and aloof and standoffish... But, yeah... a terrific bat.
