At 6:56...The absolute expert in gloves says, "Playing catch is the best way to break in a glove. This is the short cut way...." So, if you're worried about jacking up your glove by beating it up, just listen to Aso and go play catch.
@togamac2 жыл бұрын
You inspired me Aso. I used your method on one of my granddaughter's new gloves but, on her second one when I had misplaced the mallet, I did this and it worked to perfection! First, I gave the glove a generous coat of Neats Foot oil, my old-old favorite. Then I placed the glove on the floor on a piece of cardboard so as not to get oil on the floor. Then I removed my shoes and using my 200 lbs of body weight and my heels, gave that glove a complete "loosening up" workout, inside and outside, for about 5 minutes. Voila! A loose glove! The extra weight added to the glove by the amount of oil is negligible!

I've used this method on 3 new gloves AND IT WORKS! In addition to the hot water I will use Lexol Leather Conditioner on days 2 and 3 but repeating Aso's glove beating method each time I apply Lexol. Lexol is not a thick paste like other glove conditioners. It's very liquidy and runny like water except that it contains Lanolin which is very good for the leather and it makes the glove highly pliable. Try it. You'll like it.

for infield i recommend using a 12 inch softball on the pocket when the glove is wet, then going to the 11 inch when its dry, only if you dont have a mallet. for outfield i recommend using a 12 inch softball for the whole process so you create a very deep pocket (the glove shouldnt be able to close easily around it, just enough that the edges close around it)

Using water on a glove is not the greatest thing long term but is the best way to break in the glove as soon as possible. I will use this technique with my 11 year olds glove I will be getting soon and will probably need to purchase a new glove in a couple years because of him growing.

Causes mold???
@deplorable_bitter_clinger74825 жыл бұрын
No, as long as you set it out to dry. You can set up a small fan to blow on it to help. Mold only occurs when something gets wet and stays wet. Like when someone works out they are all sweaty and put their sweaty clothes in a bag and the glove also and never take it out when they get home. Then you are just asking for mold on your glove.

Give it a good application of glove oil. Put a ball in the pocket. Close the glove across the break and put it under the foot of a heavy piece of furniture, like bed or table, on the break. After a few days, its ready to use. You want to make sure that the glove closes where it should, as it was designed. The oil moisturizes the leather, strengthens it and softens it up. As a general rule, don't use water, as it takes the natural oils out of the leather and dries it out. You don't have to beat the crap out of it to break it in. Just use it, play catch.
