I get distracted when they are working on their work too. So I started coloring while I'm waiting for them to finish. It's fun, relaxing and doesn't distract too much so that when they ask a question I can easily answer

I find letting my son sleep in makes for a smoother day. We may not get our school work done until two or three, but it is a pleasant and productive day. I think what might be a “bad habit” for one family, might be the joy of homeschooling for another family. I also have to be careful watching too many curriculum videos😂. I laughed when you talked about days off school. We almost never take days off, however we have many half days. Even in the summer we school three days a week. We enjoy both the routine and the process of learning new things. I love watching videos to see how other people homeschool. The best part of homeschooling is that we can do what works for our family and that can look different each year.

Guilty of all, except the days off. I'm flexible when it comes to illness, over-tiredness etc as I believe health comes first.

Becky, I loved getting to join you in this collaboration! I can totally relate to getting distracted and then getting frustrated when I'm interrupted. Also, I'm also a stickler about days off. When I first started homeschooling, I'd make my kids do some of their work when they were sick just so we wouldn't get behind. I've relaxed a bit now, but we still don't take all of the little one day holidays that you mentioned. Thanks so much for inviting me to be a part of this collab! Now I'm going to check out Christy's video!!! :)

I'd love to homeschool myself because I find that I need to spend more time on some subjects and less on others, but in regular school I spend a lot of time waiting when I'm already finished, and it would be nice to have a flexible schedule since I play clarinet in a youth symphony.
@aplacetonest7 жыл бұрын
I think that's the trouble with public school. So many kids have that same problem! I hope you can find a way to make homeschooling work if your parents will agree to it. :)

I'm a little late to the video and comments, my husband works second shift, so it works for us to be more on his schedule and stay up later and sleep in. Of course this does cause issues when we do need to get up early. I struggle with the curriculum thing too. Thankfully I did find the good and the beautiful and love it but am often tempted by people's videos of other curriculums. We are sticking with the good and the beautiful but I may try a gather round unit sometime to see what we think.

I stopped watching your channel months ago i gues life got too busy w to babies under 2... And also started working part time... 3-5days a week... But ive been getting reeeeeeeally lazy its horrible and i feel super bad and you channel always inspires me so much on having that extra quality time w the kiddos so i just started watching again also because my son was seeing a speech therapist but due to not being able to afford all thr sessions im considering doing it at home amd this is very inspiring to put some time apart throughout my day to actually focus on my son, it would be awesome if you made a video of what activities you did with your kids when they were very young... Thanks for all that you do!!! Loved this video 💞💞💞

It is so much fun to see some of my fav KZbinrs join together for this collab! What a fun idea. I am totally guilty of working on something during the downtime. That is why I taught myself to crochet. I can sit there and still feel like I am accomplishing something. I've also switched curriculum- it is hard to stick with something when you see another curriculum that looks so much better. But, yes, just writing it down is a better alternative. :)

Aren't Candice and Christy great! I love both of their personalities so much and I trust what they say! I'm glad I'm not the only one that keeps switching curriculum. :)

I’m very similar to you...meaning that I’m guilty of almost all of these same homeschool bad habits! The only one I don’t struggle with is curriculum. We are in our 9th year using the ABeka DVD program. Now that both our kids are in high school-we use the accredited program so ABeka sends the report cards. Before that, I did the record keeping. Our daughter graduates this year so we are going to fly to Florida so she can walk across stage with the other ABEKA academy graduates and meet her dvd teachers. Should be a fun experience:)

Sorry if you’ve answered this already since this video was 2 years ago, but why do you want to be done by April? Is your summer vacation 4 months? Is it due to vacations scheduled?
@aplacetonest4 жыл бұрын
Yes, we like to be done by the end of April so we can take our big annual vacation at the beginning of May. We usually start school back again mid-August.

Get distracted✔...time off✔(most times we skip any spring break because we're so close to finishing up we figure why take a break when we can be done even sooner?!? Although, we do take birthdays off) our schedules are naturally late, so yes my kids sleep in. Our worst is cramming. Instead of giving it 110% we have been known to cram all we can to get the work accomplished so we can (whatever it may be) we usually only do this if we have an upcoming special day and we want the work accomplished so we can take the day off, instead of just taking the day off and "making up" the time.

Unfortunately where I don't have children I don't homeschool as of yet. But I do have a niece I have met her and I will watch one of my bad habits I had one trying to help my brother's learn things and it is the same as you correcting them as soon as they make the mistake. I'll let her finish this sentence I will let her try to solve it for yourself and if she doesn't I will then bring it to her attention. I appreciate all the advice I can't wait to take the tour of your homeschooling room. Till the next time you post take care of a pleasant day God bless.
