Thank you for being so thorough! I am currently homeschooling 4 out of 5 of our children this year! Our middle daughter is autistic. I fall short by putting her in a box but praise the Lord our oldest is gifted with looking at special needs children as no different and is very encouraging. The Lord is preparing her for her future to helping and advocating for our special little ppl ! “Help your child as much as you can!” I know this but great reminder!❤

Hugs to all the Special Needs Mamas!!!❤❤❤ **Memoria Press has a whole line of Special Needs Curricula called Simply Classical designed by Cheryl Swope. She's homeschool mom of two autists -- her book is wonderful, especially when struggling with the big emotions of homeschooling students with special needs. **The Memoria Press Enrichment program (K - 2) is everything I wanted 'Five in a Row' to be (integrated picture books with science, crafts, poetry, art and music study... etc.). **Mathematical Reasoning by the Critical Thinking Company has been wonderful because my little autists need a lot of help with the language development bit: more/less, longer/shorter, ordinal numbers, straight/curvy... etc. My then 9y/o started with the very first preschool book and is doing really well with them.

I homeschool my soon to be 12 year old with ASD. While challenging at times I see so much growth in him that I wouldn’t get to see for myself had we sent him to public school. We will be cheering you on! You got this!

You are fully equipped because you are his mother❤ God made you for such a time as this! My son with dyslexia is graduating 🎓 on Saturday. He was asked to write and give a speech for last night's banquet. I tried so hard to help him but he did it all on his own and presented us with a beautiful 1.5 min speech about a man he really looks up to. Wyatt is a farm boy, not a public speaker but he made the whole situation work for him. Needless to say I cried the entire time and just kept looking back in my memories of a little boy who would cry because spelling things like the, cat, word and happy were SO hard! There were some hard days back then and 6th grade had new struggles that we had to manage. But because I was his teacher, we were able to identify the problems and work through them. Last night his 6 foot 4 frame topped with his cowboy hat towered over the podium and his voice carried to the back of the room. He read his speech with a smile and paused at just the right places. All I could think was "Wow God, You are an amazing God! My little sparrow is rising up on eagles wings right in front of this crowd and it's all to your glory!" You'll do just fine Sarah❤

Thank you for sharing! My son is 7 & disabled. He has a rare genetic disorder called FOXG1 Syndrome. I struggle navigating curriculum because he’s non-verbal. He uses an eyegaze computer but if he doesn’t want to use it, I don’t know what he’s comprehending. Plus finding curriculums I can adapt to his computer can be so overwhelming! Anyways, all that to say thank you for sharing yours & your son’s homeschooling journey!

Thank you so much for this video. This is the first video that I have watched of yours but I've been searching for the right curriculum for our daughter that will start kindergarten in the fall. I have been homeschooling this year but it has been difficult to keep up because she really struggles with fine motor skills and articulation (so saying letter sounds), and keeping up with school when she has five therapies each week... I did purchase Writing Without Tears for the current school year and even though I bought everything you showed (and more) I found that I didn't have many of the things I needed for some lessons. I also think I was overwhelmed trying to do Writing Without Tears and the Good the Beautiful curriculum. I can't wait to spend more money :) and try WWT again. My daughter also LOVES music so I'm so excited to find you. Excited to check out more videos tomorrow.

Great video! I am diagnosed ASD and have 5 children, 3 with ASD and one with Innatetive ADHD and one we will have evaluated but definitely some pronounced learning disability. When I write it like that is sounds so extreme but it’s just our life and in our house neurodivergence is normal and supported. However with homeschool it has been a real journey finding what we love and what works for both myself and them. We are in a happy place now though with the oldest being 13. Some days I am so tired though because they all still requires help with emotional regulation all day long. I wouldn’t change it for anything ❤️ I hope you have a great year with your sweet little boy!

Putting yourself and your family’s situation out there is not easy, but can be so incredibly helpful and encouraging for others walking through similar circumstances. So thank you for making that heavy, prayerful decision. Special needs was a big reason I started homeschooling. We have ASD and ADHD in our home, and being able to adapt to their learning styles and work around therapy appointments has been exactly what they needed. Working with the tactile and musical strengths he has is so good! And it is scary. When you have these extra considerations, and want them to not be behind, but can also meet them where they are at. I’m in a state where I can test or do teacher evaluations at the end of the year, so I seek out teacher evaluators with special needs experience, and this year, one with a special needs child themselves. And that has brought me so much more peace to work with someone to give me feedback, and talk strengths and weaknesses. Blessings to you in this new adventure! Each of our kids is so different, but each one is in the family for a reason and blesses the other members in some way.

I have to tell you that I am so happy you posted this video. I was recently called to homeschool my 6 year old and my 5 year old son with ASD. Your son and my son sound like they have been through a very similar journey so far. Nolan was diagnosed in June and has been in therapies since 1.5 years old and developmental preschool since the age of 3. Nolan is super smart but he requires a lot of grace and repetition but he does learn and loves to learn. I'm so happy I found your page!! I have been terrified to start homeschooling but I am also really excited. It's helpful to have resources so thank you!

Excellent! Very thorough and well planned. I have an M.Ed and you exceeded my expectations by far with these choices! Love Sing, Spell, Read, and Write! You may want to consider purchasing Knowledge Crates fall preschool box. The box is usually themed and is hands on learning through play. They always include sensory items! The Fall box will include the alphabet acorns from learning resources. It's a really fun box with the lessons and ALL the materials included.

Fellow special needs mama here. There isn't a lot of special needs content. Homeschooling with special needs has its challenges but it is also such a blessing for both parent and student as I believe no one is more equip to meet the needs of their child than the parent. I get the overwhelming thoughts though. There are many nights I have laid awake worried.... it's a real exercise in faith parenting a special needs child. Things don't happen with them in a linear way and you never know what to expect from them! But when they do make progress and hit milestones, it is hard to describe in words how it makes you feel to see them make progress. Thank you for sharing. You can tell you have put great thought into choosing curriculum to meet Ezra where he is. I hope and pray it is a good year for you both.

Thanks Elaine! A good friend of mine recommended that I start keeping a list/journal to track the wins we experience with Ezra (it can be so easy to focus on the difficulties some days). My list is 2 1/2 years long at this point and one of my greatest treasures!

I agree that if anyone is equipped to teach him it is you and your family! You already know him inside and out and you can just teach him, you don’t have to spend half the year figuring him out like a Special Ed teacher would. I was a regular ed Kindergarten teacher for 6 years and for 5 of those years I was the inclusion teacher for Kindergartners with Special needs. The Special Ed teachers were great, but they can never love and teach your child as well as you can. ❤❤❤

I have an almost 16 year old son that has a genetic syndrome that gives him autistic traits. He is also a music and book kid. I am gearing up for summer and keeping him off the screens. We also struggle with transitions from screens. I am really excited for you and Ezra. He is so blessed to have a mom and teacher like you.

Can I start it whenever, when the normal schools start? As I don't like the idea of doing specific term dates, schedules etc. It's cheaper for my holidays to differ from the norm school ones. I just like the idea of loose structure and schooling

Just starting to watch but I just want to say thank you! Videos like this are so helpful! And wow. I have NEVER heard someone describe their child with ASD to be so like my daughter. The journey before school starting, the likes and dislikes, the choices on screen based curriculum. My daughter is 6 and going into 1st (technically). We pulled her out of public after a few months last fall. We have 7 kids at home and she’s the 4th, so similar also with older and younger kids to teach. Looking forward to hearing your journey.

Hi, my daughter is 11 with a diagnosis of cerebral palsy and severe developmental delay . She is nonverbal and is working on identifying letters, numbers, sight words, and such. She is not on the educational track for her grade level. I am about to begin homeschooling for her for many reasons and I’m not familiar with how it works at all. What I’m gathering from your info and what I’ve researched is that you don’t have to enroll in a certain homeschool site, you just have to find a curriculum for your student that works for them and teach them on their level. Correct? I’m so confused. Please help!
