This might be a stretch or be too advanced for your kids, but you might be interested in OER Big History for a prehistory unit. It is mostly science focused with some history in the later units. You could just do the sections on whatever eras you're interested in. Khan Academy has an easy to use version or you can use the actual website. It's pretty academic which I think is what you're looking for. Or something to hold onto for later since you like this one.

I was under the impression that they were neutral not secular. How do they handle the age of the earth and evolution? Any concerns as you look through it? It looks beautiful.

No concerns in my initial read-through. We will be doing this in July. One module is on geologic time and covers the different periods and epochs, and spends a page or two talking about the Cambrian Explosion (Big Bang). I also like that it devotes several pages to chronology and dating, including carbon and luminescence dating. They also discuss the impact of asteroids and climate change. Hope that helps!
