I felt the same way about Diary of a Wimpy Kid that you do about DogMan. LOL. We all need some easy, entertaining reads in the midst of classics and harder reads, so my kids read that kind of stuff too. Bad Kitty was a favorite around here - haha! I do try to inspire them with missionary stories (YWAM books) - a minimum of one a year. They always enjoy those when I read them aloud.

lol. Missionary books are a good idea. We have only talked about missionaries. Never read a book on one. We should.

Some my son has enjoyed (he's a junior now): The Unteachables, A Light in the Attic (poetry), The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, The Prince Warrior series by Priscilla Shirer, The Bronze Bow, Secrets in the Mist (steampunk and scifi together)... hope that helps :) It's so hard to find good reads for our teens!

Finding reading material my son likes has been a challenge after he moved out of juvenile fiction. I’ve found the young adult section of my local library is filled with things either in appropriate or not interesting to him. He prefers humorous stories. He recently read This Present Darkness, a blast from my past, and liked it. It’s certainly not a funny story, but a wonderful one nevertheless.

Thanks for the suggestion. It is a time commitment to read everything

Are you doing literature journals or is this just for leisure?
