We're on week 3 of this routine and it's still serving us well ❤ How do you make your routine?

This is our first year. Definitely routine is where it's at. I have a sheet with boxes they can check next to the subject. They get to pick what they want to do first in a way. I'm trying to teach 3,6th grade so if one does math on the computer we try to pick a subject with the other child that I have to help. We're a working progress but my hope and prayer is that I don't fail my children. I'm having some trouble with my 9 year old son he doesn't seem to want to do anything because I think in his mind it's still summer because he's at home. I think I need to get a book to read with my kids about homeschooling.❤

Since I work mornings I have been leaving my kids a daily checklist of independent work for them to do while they are home with dad. I change up what I leave but mostly reading, handwriting, or Bible. When I get home in the afternoon I teach the rest. Math and language arts are different levels. Everything else is combined since they are only two years apart. It's been going well so far. We alternate science and history every other day. Fridays are lighter work days with more activities and or trips.

We do basket time first, which consists of Bible, literature, and something from our cultures/civics/history loop. Then we move into structured group lessons for science, history, and Latin. After we finish all of our together stuff, they do their independent work. I found it too difficult to get everybody back together if they started working on independent stuff in between group sessions.

Same here. It's easier to do the "together" subjects first.

This totally makes sense! We do something similar. With me working, we do the bulk of our big schooling (stuff I teach and stuff that takes more concentration) on Mondays and Fridays. Then, the other days I take them with me when I work (thankfully I can bring them with me), and they do independent stuff that they can easily do on their own. Such a huge blessing!💕

We follow a mostly Charlotte Mason philosophy. But we occasionally throw in unit studies. I follow CM in having short lessons and make my schedule/routine based on not putting 2 subjects back to back because this causes mental fatigue. We do Bible and Recitation first and then mix up subjects as long as there isn't 2 subjects back to back that require the same part of the brain. We usually finish up our day with things like drawing, brush drawing, or handiwork because it takes a bit to put things away and I don't want it delaying us getting to our next subject.

I'm not sure if you would call ours a routine or a schedule lol! We do time blocks, and we generally do the subjects in the same order. But the benefit of time blocks is that if something isn't working or if we have an off day I can change things up easily. So school from 8:30-11, break from 11-12:30, finish what we have left after that. It's been working for us!

We do a routine. Even with just one kid its easier then setting up time slots. One day a math may take longer than another day so i dont want to set like half hour for math or whatnot.

We definitely do a routine. With 3 kids everyday is different as my youngest is in kindergarten. It tends to go best when we work around her.

At the moment we just go with the flow of each day. I tried doing a set schedule, then a routine and it didn’t stick so now it just happens differently each day.

I've been avoiding doing this because I'm doing something similar but with 3 boys, they are all all doing a few courses together but in different combinations, one course we are all doing and I work 4 mornings a week. I like what you have come up with, I definitely want the easy independent stuff done while I work, I'll probably add math to that list then what you do, the together stuff, then their independent subjects. Thanks for making this make sense 😊

I have 3 kiddos that are 5 and under. I would love to include bible reading in our family, but am unsure of how to do that with kids that young. Their father and I are just coming into our faith as well. Do you have any recommendations for that?

Hi :) Recently stumbled on your channel and really like your mindset for your family. So could you help me out with some much needed advice? I am homeschooling my son for the first time this year, hes in the 3rd grade this year. I still haven’t ordered a curriculum. Im a full time working father and will have to homeschool every day when I get home from work. Im looking for the EASIEST curriculum out there. A christian based curriculum preferably. I live in VA and from my research, the state of Virginia does not require any particular subject by law to be taught. But it is recommended to stick to the basic subjects of reading, language, math, science, and social studies. Could you help me here?

Hi! I want to preface this by saying that no curriculum is particularly "easy", and you'll have to have some involvement with each of them. Without knowing specific needs of your family, it's hard to give a straight answer to this kind of question. However, I can tell you our favorites (especially my husband's, as he teaches some of the classes himself). We like Generations the most for things like social studies, history, science, Bible, and literature. For math, my kids love teaching textbooks. For language arts we use IEW.
