Homeschooling middle school is so different! Emily’s interests and the things she wants to learn about are constantly changing. It’s much harder to practice interest-led learning now and I need to get creative about it. We’re trying new things and finding new passions as we homeschool through the middle school years. One of our favorite new activities is archery.

This is disc golf for us currently. I've really struggled with the teenage stage as far as lack of interests, distancing, and introverted ness, so when there's any interest at all I cling to it and support it anyway I can. Keep fanning the flame and finding ways to connect.

The middle school conversations are definitely one of my favorite parts! And the books we are reading now are so good, then the conversations we have about them are top notch. The subjects I am introducing because i think they will really like them has been a favorite part. Forensics for my oldest has been so fun. My two youngest are really in to their instruments. They played for the first time this year and have their final concert this weekend. My youngest is even playing a solo of her choice for it😊 they are currently out to the music store to try out which instruments they want to add next year and asking to do private lessons with their teacher during the summer. I have been amazed how dedicated they are and how they have set their own practice schedule and stuck to it all year. All three are diving in to learning a language of their choice. Mostly thru Duolingo, but my middle is really working hard at learning Japanese and has asked for some extra resources for learning Haranga since learning the symbols on top of pronunciation is an extra challenge in learning Japanese. My two youngest are planning a back country camling trip for the summer. It is amazing how many interests are popping up and they can really lead the way in pursuing them becauae they are old enough and mature enough to follow thru on the work, practice, etc required to grow in those activities. It is a tough age and the moods around here can be mercurial 😂, but it is also such a cool time to see their interests growing as they explore who they are becoming!

I love listening to their interests and having time to pursue them! Middle school has been such a fun age for me to parent. It has it's difficulties but I love seeing them really start to know themselves and figure it out.

It definitely has it challenges, but having the privilege of seeing them turn into actual people with their own passions has been so amazing!

What a fun interest! I can think of so many creative ways to learn with this.
