Good call on gravel for fire. I think gravel and a few sprinkles we threw up on our roof saved our house when we evacuated. Lost most our neighbors. We’re 9b too in SantaCruz- grateful for your content.

Always love seeing your gardens, super excited to see all the projects to come! I have kind of a silly question, with the outdoor cats where do they typically go to the bathroom? Asking because one of the outdoor kitties I'm friends with has a bad habit of spraying on cars and everything else even though he's fixed, so I was curious if that has been a problem at all for you
@HomesteadandChill
@HomesteadandChill 2 жыл бұрын
We haven't noticed the cats spraying anywhere and we have a lot of open and sandy soil where they seem to like to go to the bathroom.

Hi Deanna. I love the new property! I also live in an Oak Tree area of SLO about 6 miles from the coast. Where do you get you volcanic rock to put in your raised vegetable beds! Thanks
@HomesteadandChill
@HomesteadandChill 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Anne, we find the volcanic rock at AirVol Block in SLO. They also carry pumice in the same size which can be used the same way and it weighs less, but it does cost a little bit more.

Question about the last project you mentioned for the fence line along the raised bed space. The fence line is quite spacious; I would assume it would take a large quantity of the different plants (guava, salvia, etc.) you had mentioned wanting to put in, which could become quite expensive if you purchased mature plants from a nursery. My question is, are you/ can you propagate, raise from seed or divide plants to help get the linear coverage needed without breaking the bank?
@HomesteadandChill
@HomesteadandChill 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely you can propagate plants to cut down on cost. We can typically find salvia, lavender, or other perennials in one gallon or less containers so the cost isn't that much.

You need to get a couple goats pretty quick. Move them around to different areas and keep everything chewed down. Or ya'll will be out cutting weeds for hours. Just a thought.
