We live in Nebraska and we tried country life and growing big gardens but were surrounded by cornfields being sprayed constantly. I struggle with health issues, so this was not good for me, so back to the city we went. The midwest is rough for living if you want to be away from chemicals, but we are planted firmly here due to my husband’s business. Your land is so beautiful. What a blessing.

I was raised in Mississippi and my dad was a son of share croppers in Alabama. Farming was in his blood it seemed. He passed away in 2020 but at this point I live in a college town in Illinois in a pretty neighborhood but not enough land to do much with. I have a green thumb with anything I touch just like him. He would absolutely love this. Thanks for sweet reminders. ❤

My husband and I are close to beginning the journey of having children. You are an inspiration! The family that you have built is beautiful. We are excited (and a little terrified) to begin this journey. I pray that more people see these uplifting videos that not only show us an example of a beautiful homestead, but also an example of a family that glorifies God!

This video is so perfect for where I am in life. We moved from the PNW to the Midwest. There are so many lies and pain the enemy has rooted in me that I’m trying to learn to let go of while at the same time trying to turn my black thumb green on a much smaller scale (no homesteading for us). I knew there were lessons God would use to teach me in my minuscule attempt to plant things not I am excited to learn. Thank you for the video.

I would never think borax would be used in a garden. That is very interesting. I have only ever used it for cleaning things. Losing shovels is never fun. Glad for spoon replacements.

I thought I was the only gardener that used my kitchen spoons. Last year I lost several spoons & my poultry shears....our neighbor's rototiller found 1/2 of the shears 🙄hubby was not too impressed. I have a really hard time putting things away. I either fail to put them away entirely or I put the 'away' somewhere that I can never find them again. My husband says he thinks I genetically part squirrel. I feel closest to God when I am in the garden. I get completely absorbed & I do my best contemplating there. The solitude I find there is all encompassing & very restorative. I have tried for so so long to get my daughters to help me in the garden & to be interested in it, but I feel like I started too late. I never started any of it until my older daughter was about 5 or 6 & she just was never interested. I was so overwhelmed with work, that I erroneously just did things 'myself' to hurry it up. As they got older my husband would order them to assist me. It never was pretty. They would sulk, complain, and do it half heartedly & it would absolutely KILL the joy that I felt in the garden. he worked nights, so he was never around to see the results of his edicts. One daughter is allergic to mosquitoes & black flies, and corn pollen. The straw that broke the camel's back was when she was helping me, per her father's orders, & got bit in the eye by a black fly. She ended up in urgent care, because her eye swelled completely shut & she had a job interview the next day. I just gave up on requiring them to help out there. It always seems counterproductive. I really feel that you MUST do this stuff when they are too little to know the difference & slow down to include them.

I completely relate to your feelings of being closer to God in the garden. I guess because it's grounding and easy to forget all the distractions maybe? I started gardening 30 years ago, and had a season in the midwest where I wasn't able to. I missed it SO much and just wasn't myself without my gardens. Genetically part squirrel, lol! I get that. I have to use planners and lists or else I'm like a fart in a whirlwind, lol!

What a beautiful and wonderful video. I really enjoyed watching with my morning cup of coffee. May God bless you with an abundance of food from your garden. You have definitely blessed me spiritually. I exceed you in many years. My oldest is almost 30 and my youngest is almost 16 and I've never thought of weeding a garden in this way. I will be sharing your wisdom with my family. Thank you soo much for sharing. God has given you such a gift.

How exciting! We haven't quite started gardening yet. We just had a frost a couple nights ago and this morning, the car looked like it had frost on the windshield. We won't plant here until June 1, otherwise we risk wasting our efforts planting early, ask me how I know. We are in the process of building enclosed raised beds to extend the growing season and start early next spring, BUT as you may have experienced yourself homesteading and home projects often don't go as quickly or as smoothly as we'd like with hiccups along the way. That said, the garden took a back seat to other priorities including the very unexpected investment of a milk cow and calf. I loved your insights about gardening and raising children. I've not watched all the way through, but I just discovered your channel and am enjoying much of the content. Have a Happy Mother's Day!

Beautiful video. Homeschooling teaches kids to be hard workers. They don't learn that in public school sitting in a desk. You are doing a great job with everything. My son wore that same bracelet when he was a teen 👍. So when you moved, you came back to the area where you grew up?
