Good to see you got those blades sorted on the mower deck Ian, I think you are very wise to move the grass cutter onto someone else looks very non forgiving. A french friend of mine nearly lost his hand when using a circular saw bench with out the guard not good. Nicely worked guys! Hope Julie getting better, and its a "funny little thing" that appendix -if nothing happens to it for all our lifes, it not doing that much of use...but DOES something happened to it, the whole h..ll hole falls down into it, and it has to be removed..... That we grass cutter has made a big difference grinding out that lip . The old cutter confine it to history but when it was going it cut that long grass pretty good . Your sickle mower is only meant to cut new tall stem grass, otherwise it gets plugged up as you have found. Try moving over and cut a full bar width of new grass, it should perform well. Good luck. Get well soon Julie!

It's obviously important to get the blade nut tight, but you don't need to over-tighten it. The rotation of the blade will cause it to tighten as it mows, so a reasonably tight nut will be enough.

Glad hers went better than mine. Mine ruptured during surgery and I spent an agonizing week in the hospital and a couple afterwards not able to do anything but hurt. I'd love to have that mower just for the cool look factor. But it would take a few trips to get it home in checked baggage. It was better than by hand back then but much better methods now.

That is what is termed a Finger Bar Mower, It does take some setting up to get a good cut in all conditions, basically the knife and finger adjustment should be like a guillotine with a tight tolerance, I have not seen your mower up close, however the adjustment is usually with shims, the fingers can get loose with wear, and should be replaced with new. (If available) If the knife sections are of the none perforated variety, then the knife sections need to be sharpened with a stone. You have to remove the knife and place it in a purpose built stand to sharpen them safely. I am not being unkind, the best thing is sell it, and buy a new mower to suit your needs.

I agree, that bar looked pretty clapped out when Ian attached it to the mower. Probably needs the complete finger bar and knifes replaced to work good again. After lots of sharpening the cutting edge isn't at the ideal position of the fingers anymore, and the movement gets lower, so it performs less and less over time. The coupling between the mower and the cutting bar might be worn out as well, so that would add to the issue that the kinves don't move as far as they should for proper cutting. We've used finger bar mowers for quite a long time on our farm, and of course all the combine harvesters for grain basically have the same cutting bar systems on the header as well. Good maintenance and replacing worn out parts kept them going for many many decades.

I think your grass is way to wet for a cycle bar mower. That being said, they hurt so any people so please sell it. So sorry Judy, but, after my removal I was and am much better. I Hope you are home and happy! Don't over do or you will be back ion for stich repair, this I know.

the forward speed is too fast, has someone changed a belt pulley or is it gear driven. having mowed thousands of acres 50 years ago, it makes a huge difference if the blade and guards are sharp and the blade hold downs are keeping the blade against the guards. anyway great video, saying hello from Tennessee.

Des lames débalancé, je doutes sérieusement que cela ai un impacte sur une courroie d'entraiment, la lame doit avoir le même poids des deux cotés de l'axe de rotation, c'est normal. Mais les trois lames n'ont pas d'influence entre elle, ce n'est pas une "timing belt" qui gère l'ensemble. Il voulait surement vendre un lot de trois parce qu'il a un meilleur prix de sont fournisseur.
