While I enjoy the K712 and find it a viable option for gaming, film, music, etc., I wouldn't personally buy one at its price when I could just get a snappier sounding 702. I think the 712 is a tad warm for my tastes, but I had fun with it. I use the K712 with the earpads from the K702 (they cost around 40€). You get the same "analytic" sound but with a little bit more Bass. Most of the differences between those models come from those Pads. Together with the shiit Vali 2+ are they just insane...

Man, this is not a set of cans to put on your head for listening. It’s a tool for mixing. It’s not supposed to give you slamming bass. It’s designed for engineers as a “reference” monitors for mixing and mastering. I appreciate you taking time to review this. Just recognize the purpose of design before going there.

I recently changed from the K702 to the K712..and i can say that the K712 definitely sounds better and fuller to me..since they do not sound as bright and harsh (due to a more neutral treble) than the K702..and the bass is noticeably tighter...overall the sound signature of the K712 is more "harmonic" and balanced, whereas the K702 sounds a bit more "punchy" and way more brighter (too bright for my taste)..

Same thing happened to me, I thought my 712 pro's were fake for a few minutes lmao. I use a 70s AKG K240 Sextett and really wanted to see what a new AKG sounds like. After changing pads and stuff I am starting to really like the 712s. With sheepskin pads they have harder hitting bass but you loose a bit of clarity in the voices imo. I think you can go very loud with these unlike what the guy mentions in the video. They sound great on my SMSL C200 but they dont sound as good on the headphone jack on my vintage kenwood receiver from the 80s. On the contrary the K240 Sextett sound amazing on the Kenwood. Anyways.

They're pretty good but a little glossy and not as snappy as a 702. The clarity thing you mention also applies. It's subtle, but I felt a bit letdown when I listened to these especially for the price.

Because most AKG's are very lean in bass and in some songs that could make mids stand out and even steal the show. That's why alot of classic rock is perfect for them.

Sean: I've owned the r70x for close to a year and just got the k712 today. The r70x to me sounds "just right" being quite neutral with just a hint of warmth while the tuning of k712 is both too warm and too bright. The soundstage is definitely bigger on the k712 though. Stu: I agree with you on the k712 being too warm. I'll still give it a few more days but I don't think I'll get used to it and will likely end up returning it (got a good deal on Thomann for 177 USD as of this writing). I'm keeping my v-shaped DT990 Edition 600 Ohm for flavor while the r70x is my go-to for neutral.

There's also the semi-open akg240. Although, hurts me to wear for long periods of time because of my glasses, it still sounds superb until this day. Of course it lacks the soundstage that the other akg's have, but they would have more vocal clarity while still having the typical akg sound.
