Thank you so much! My intention is to share all Japanese recipes, not just the popular ones so I'm really happy you said that. Happy cooking, I hope you enjoy nikujaga!

very lovely! True story, I'm Japanese, actually dislike Nikujaga at restaurants because people always make it too sweet, but this recipe looks so appetizing it makes me want to try making it specifically for non-sweet tastes. Great instruction video.

Can I use minced beef or minced pork? What substitute for mirin? Can I use cooking white wine to substitute sake?
@SudachiRecipes4 ай бұрын
Thank you for your questions! I've never used ground meat for this recipe, but I don't think it will be an issue. As for mirin and sake substitutes, you can use an equal amount of white wine for both. When replacing mirin specifically, add a bit of sugar (perhaps like 1 tsp) to the white wine, as mirin has a sweetness that regular wine lacks.

Do you use a starchy like russets or waxy potatos like reds

Great question! Waxy potatoes are better for nikujaga. :)

Is the Sake mandatory or can I use a non-alcoholic substitute?
@SudachiRecipes4 ай бұрын
Thank you for your question! I've never made this with substitute, so I cannot say 100%. But while it might be different, I still think it will be good as long as you keep the other ingredients the same.

I have seen some other cooking channels mention water is a possible substitute (1:1).
