Safety glasses is highly suggested here. I've done a few of these crafts, many times ❤️. While it only happened once, one of the gems popped into pieces when it hit the ice water. Shards did pop off. Fortunately, not far but ever since that, I wear some kind of eye protection. Love all of these ideas ❤

I purchase stone gems a long time ago and had a glass soap dispenser, so I wanted it to look nice. I put the gems at the bottom. What I didn’t realize is that after time I guess the different chemicals, the colors of the gems and the soap turned into some thing that gave my hands a chemical burn my hands are everything to me because I use them for all my jobs, my hands are so badly scarred because of it so if anybody does read this, please just don’t ever put them with soap.

For the bathroom hack, I think it would have been better to cut out a piece of backer board and affix it to the wall first. Then add the glass stones. That way, if there’s ever the desire to change that decor, it will be easy to just remove the backer board. Otherwise, trying to remove all those glass stones from the actual wall will be torture.
@dirtywhitegirl8 ай бұрын
I don't think your backer board idea will work out, it's easier said than done. Backer board is attached to the wall with a very strong adhesive (so it can hold the weight of the tile, or glass gems in this case) which will rip the drywall off if you try to remove it. If it's only screwed in, you'd have to find the screws under the glass gems and grout. Additionally, it would leave the edges of the backer board exposed, which would be unsightly and add another step & expense to this project... covering it with trim, etc.
@hollybarnes84216 күн бұрын

Just an advice for those who care about their health: Don't "cook" anything in the oven except food. You don't want to be breathing toxic fumes resulting from melting plastic in the oven. You don't want chemicals and fumes released inside the oven and getting stuck on the oven walls, and then contaminating your food later.

I make mosaic stepping stones and coasters with them. If I’m doing a ‘real’ mosaic, I use glass that I cut myself. But I did this with my students before I retired, and they just placed the colors they liked in a pattern they liked, and we let the cement dry. They were so beautiful! We made some for Christmas gifts, and in the spring, we made some to put in a little flower garden on the campus of school. So much fun!

As a retired person who owned a real estate company...don't directly glue kitschy gems on your walls unless you plan on living there for many years yourself. Trying to sell a house with a glass gem wall like this one is not going to go well. In most cases it decreases the value of the home. Especially in a bathroom or kitchen. Save up your money and buy good tiles instead of cheap dollar store gems.
@bambiprice8186Ай бұрын
What a person does to their property is their business. Would you think twice about resale value if you wanted to add a mural on a child's bedroom wall using different mediums? Same principle!
@rayshelld791Ай бұрын
@@bambiprice8186 actually....yes. I hear buyers groan when they see brightly painted murals on walls, because they know that its going to have to be in many cases, sanded, primed and repainted. Of course if you plan on living in your home for 20 or 30 years, it doesn't matter. Just remember to repaint kid murals before you sell. And glass gems can be put on wood and screwed on the wall which would be easier to change out. Of course do what you want to your own home. But its a different story when it comes to reselling a house.

Baking those in a food oven is a really bad ideaxbecause the compounds that are in decor stones aren't normally food safe, nor non toxic. You'd be better off with a separate vented craft specific oven, like maybe an old toaster oven Ina well ventilated area like a summer kitchen or a verandah. Some people might pick the wrong kind of 'gems' and end up baking plastic and start a fire. 🤬
