That's amazing to see. I know elevation doesn't show up well on camera, but it became evident after a few minutes that it was much higher near the driveway. So y'all basically built a dam (levee) at the low end to keep in water. Here in flat south Louisiana ponds have to be dug out. Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

this is one of those times when renting or just buying a Cat D6/d7 sized dozer and selling it right after makes a LOT of sense...those things can move an insane amount of dirt compared to a bobcat/excavator and really tear down deep at the same time and help compact the bed of the pond with the tracks and blade

it's good to see boys and their big toys playing nicely together, it must take time and trust to assume each other won't take one out permanently. I really like watching BIG contractors with their excavators working in close proximity to humans a couple feet away, they don't duck or flinch when the operator swings in the big ass bucket right over them or next to them, those excavator operators earn their money, no daydreaming on that job!

You would have wanted a concrete apron built around the pipe before it went under the dam. And I would have done a core trench as well. The pond you have here will seep around that pipe, and leech through that dam over time. I am not hating or bashing your video, I just learned a lot through my mistakes as well.

This is a serious, professional, pond building, using full finishing equipment. That roller/ compactor, at the late stages is a great idea, but many smaller contractors do not add that step, just harrow or rake it or drag something like broad piece of framed, weighted, chain link fencing to smooth it, then let it settle or capped of in a light rain - adequate for smaller jobs. The problem there being hoping a major rain and erosion doesnt happen before completion. Some guys do almost all the work on small ponds with just a decent sized dozer, alone. It all depends on how much you can, or want to, invest in the project. Going cheaper and sloppier, with risk of wall failures, not recommended for a big pond.
@itzmikeomg2755
@itzmikeomg2755 3 жыл бұрын
You are one of the only people on youtube that has properly run a roller in their pond. It is mind blowing how many people build a pond and don't roll it in. And no, dozer tracks don't do near as good as a roller.

Thanks for the video, did you all do a core Trench? It is recommended by so many people online. Does the pond hold water well? There's also some debate on some other videos as to whether you should have used a sheep's Huff or padded roller instead of the smooth roller even though the smooth roller looks like it puts a nice finish Onnit, instead of looking like a waffle cone. Hmm, surprised that the dam was not compacted in lifts. I did concrete construction for years, and always used gravel for fill since it is so plentiful here. Never more than 6 inch lifts without compaction. When ever I saw dirt being used for fill, they would use a sheep's foot roller to compact the soil, and in lifts again. The cat doesn't have enough pounds per square foot pressure to do a good compaction since the tracks are pretty wide and long. I would expect that dam to settle quite a bit in the coming years. Did I miss some thing?
