Want to see a homeware haul, sharing my new kitchenware. Over the past few weeks, I have been getting busy in the kitchen. I have been learning to cook and having fun doing so. On payday, I decided to reward myself with some new pieces for the kitchen. From cooking the past few weeks I realized I needed some new posts, tea towels, and trays, so, I headed to Ikea and my local Homesense and treated myself to some new kitchenware.
Come follow me:

Delia’s How To Cook is a great book for beginners and teaches you all the basics. Tasty meals with simple ingredients and recipes, some cook books expect you to have lots of fancy kitchen equipment and weird ingredients. I got it as a gift when I first moved out. Give it a whirl x

Hi Catherine and Blondie. I only discovered your channel a few days ago and I've been binge-watching your vlogs continuously (apologies to the other youtubers aI subscribe to as I've been ignoring them lol). Your house is hand-on-heart my dream home. It is truly beautiful. I've only been able to get away with a certain amount of pastel as the hubby is reluctant for the whole house to be so girlie, but we now have two daughters who are old enough (12 and 8) to enjoy my pastel passion so the three of us are starting to take over the house decor and room by room the house is transforming.... lol. I've loved watching all the videos I have so far and look forward to future ones. You are such a lovely person and your personality shines through. And you crack me up with your witty chatter. Don't ever change 💜 Px

Love your additional cookware. So complimentary pleasing to the rest of the decor. Sometimes the frying pans with the tephlon (sp) no stick depends on utensils one uses. Manufactors recommend rubber, silicone or plastic so it doesn't scratch the tephlon off the bottom and sides of the pan. Not to use sharp knifes to cut veggies or meat while in the pan or these also will damage the pan. Things I've learned over the years. Better Homes and Garden New Cookbook red checker cover is a great starter cookbook with variety of meals everything from simple to gourmetish... blondie is too funny... thought her tail was going to be the highlight of your video she will not be denied love and attention🐈 she's also so beautiful. Thank you Catherine for always taking time to share your finds and content. Always cheery and delightfully refreshing🍃🌹🍃 have a sweet time♡

I know this is an older video, but I LOVE to cook, and I always find myself going back to one old reliable; the red and white gingham Good Housekeeping cookbook that your mom probably had, and another immensely helpful cookbook is the Food Lovers Cookbook! As far as recipes go, lately I find the best recipes in magazines; Bon Appetite is my favorite! BTW, you have created the cottage of my dreams! For at least 30 years I’ve dreamt of living in a fairy tale house (must have gables), done all in pastels, and completely girly. Sadly, my 6’4”, 250lb husband wouldn’t last 5 minutes in my pink, ultra-feminine dream home, so I am living precariously through you! Your taste is just beautiful and so are you! I’m still thinking about your gorgeous new couches! Since seeing them a week ago, I’ve scoured furniture stores near me for anything even remotely similar but no luck so far! But I’m not giving up! I just LOVE your videos! You are such a beautiful breath of fresh air! 💕

Good recommendation for when you cook a whole chicken... We get about 3 different meals out of it. When we go shopping we put the chicken in as soon as we get home and have roast chicken sandwiches with crusty bread (sometimes homemade!) The next day we'll make a curry by tearing off a load of the meat. After that I boil the carcass in a big pan along with onions, celery, carrots and some herbs (thyme, rosemary etc) to make a stock. I normally leave it simmering away for 1 - 2 hours with a lid on, then I'll take it off the hob and use a colander to drain the stock into a big dish/pot. Leave the carcass to cool down and then pick all of the meat off and add it to the stock along with the veg that was in with it. I'll add potatoes, mushrooms and basically any veg that I have lying around to bulk it out, add cream to taste along with some seasoning and tadaaa! You have a lovely homemade chicken stew that you can box up and put in the fridge or freezer. Before I met my fiance I used to make this for myself and it would feed me for a week! It's lovely with some crusty bread on a cold winters night, with a glass of white wine!

I got married in 1975 and have just now begun to use my china on a regular basis. My granddaughters love to eat on them as well as havibg candlelight dinners and drinking iced tea from wine glasses. Hi Catherine. I have a cooking tip for you. I love hardboiled eggs. They have lots of uses. Put them in a mini muffin tins and bake in a preheated oven for 30 minutes at 325*f (I'm American and don't know the centigrade), then put them in a bowl of ice water when you take them out to stop the cooking. perfect Everytime. I'm also more of a baker than a cook, so if you enjoy baking, look up Joy of Baking on KZbin. she even gives you the metric conversions in all of her recipes. The other thing I do for recipes is Google what I want to make and tons of great recipes come up. just pick the one you prefer. Good luck!! Be Blessed!!!

Glad you are learning how to cook. I enjoy a KZbin cook--- Laura in the kitchen. Good, easy to follow recipes. Also Jenny can cook. Her recipes are more health conscious. Try her Chicken Pot Pie. Easy to make and yummy. Would feed you for a week or freeze portions. One of my very favorite things is to be able to go to my freezer and have a wonderful dinner ready in no time. Also invest in a grill pan. Then you can cook chicken breast or pork cutlets or treat yourself to a steak. Makes making dinner fast. Oh---one more. I have been enjoying Mary Berry on KZbin. What a treat to watch. Loved Blondie’s tail wagging in your face. She really needs her own show. Be well, Sue, DE

I have cook books that are put out by different church groups. They make them as fund raisers. Other groups do the same. I do not know if they do that where you are, (I am in the USA), but through the years, I have found these books to be the best. They have a good variety, are cooks favorite tried and true recipes and they are hardy easy to cook dishes. I have several and will not bother with any other kind of cook books. Just a thought.

These you know are tried and true recipes and usually someones favorite. Also they tend to be easier first time cookbooks. I also have my grandmothers cookbook on leftovers and using them up. Most of my cookbooks have been bought secondhand and I rarely pay more than $1 Canadian for them. I also live alone and roast chicken a lot. It goes a long way and its one of my favorite meals. Looking forward to your DIY. Those tins are beautiful.

Love all the pieces we have Home Goods here in the US so I will check out their towels. Just like you, I enjoy washing the dishes by hand and need good towels. My favourite cook is the Barefoot Contessa and Rachel Ray both are on Food Network on the computer. There are so many recipes on the computer and the can save you a ton of money and just print them out and put them in a binder. Good to see blondie also in the video. Looking forward to seeing what you are going to make with those teas boxes. As always I enjoy your videos............your flipper is a spatula, then you have a ladle and a strainer as you cook more it will all be second nature to you. I think I was around 5 when I started helping my late mom to cook and truly enjoy it. I also love to bake goodies and I will try dishes I have seen on Pintrest................hope this helps Hugs

OMGosh Everything is just gorgeous! Love those tea towels and the mini tea tins!! Pioneer Woman would be great for a cookbook. As for youtube, check out Gemma Strafford. Her videos are awesome. She's a baker and I'm in love with her mug meals (made in a mug in the microwave.) She and her husband are from Ireland, and currently living in CA. She makes other things and she has some cookbooks. Some good uses for left-over chicken: Chicken Fried Rice.... Gemma has a mug meal recipe for it, but you can make it in a skillet too. Moroccan chicken salad... I use my own recipe based on regular chicken salad minus the celery and pickle, and I add salted cashews, golden raisins, curry powder, ginger and garlic paste, lemon juice, some yogurt, and a diced apple, along with the mayo, onions and chicken and a bit of sugar to complement the lemon juice; salt and pepper to taste.. I also make what I call Philly Cheese Steak in a bowl using chicken instead of beef. You stir fry onions and green pepper in oil, add some salt and pepper, toss in your leftover chicken, heat it well, then put on a bed of rice, top it with some sour cream and grated cheddar cheese. There's always a main dish chef's salad using the chicken for the protein. And if you have bones or a carcass, you can cover it w/ water, add a carrot, an onion cut up and a rib or two of celery and boil it gently for a couple of hours. Use the stock/broth to make a good soup. Chicken noodle or chicken rice is good. To your chicken add some celery, onion, carrots, peas, noodles or rice and simmer til the veggies and rice/noodles are done. Season to taste. Freeze your left-over chicken in portion sizes you will use, until to you are ready to make something. One thing that makes a good cook is using enough salt but not too much. Happy Spring dear Catherine!

Love your channel and LOVE Blondie! So cute her tail waving around. I also have cats. You said you have trouble with nonstick pans not lasting. I used to have the same trouble. But I heard to not use non-stick sprays like Pam in your non-stick pans. It ruins them and makes them gummy. I have had my non stick pans for ten years now and they are great. You can still put regular butter or oil if you like. Love everything you got. 🐱

When I do frozen veggies, I put them in a frying pan with some butter and seasoned salt, put the lid on and have the heat on medium , checking on them of course, instead of boiling the heck out of them which I used to do. I love all the kitchen ware you purchased, great job...............enjoy !!!

Look into getting a Crock Pot/SlowCooker! It makes fixing meals so easy...and they come in different sizes and colors. I throw a whole chicken, or Turkey carcass in my 5 quart Crockpot, some stock or broth, chop up 4-5 peeled carrots, 3-4 stalks of celery, quarter to half an onion, salt to taste, pepper to taste, garlic fresh or powder to taste, onion powder, 2 bay leaves, tablespoon of parsley, tablespoon of brown sugar, cover with enough broth or soup stock. Put Crockpot on low and let cook overnight. Drain/strain into another pot in the morning. All the meat should just fall off the bones. I give skin, fat, etc., to my cats and dogs...and of course, throw the bones away! Then add the veggies back into the pot with the broth. I don't like rice cooked with my soup, it just dissolves. I bought a rice cooker a couple months ago...don't know why I waited so long! I love this thing. Anyway, I cook 2 cups of rice and keep in a separate container in the fridge. I freeze individual servings of the soup, and once I reheat/microwave about 7.5 minutes to thaw and heat the soup, I add a couple spoons of rice (right out of the fridge) to the hot soup and it's ready to eat. Crockpots in the US are pretty cheap. I got my big one for $29.00US. My smaller one is just 2 quarts, but I don't remember what I paid for it. I use my big one more because I can fit an entire chicken with lots of veggies in it, and you don't have to babysit it like you do the oven or stovetop. You can put everything in the pot the night before, put it in the fridge, pull it out in the morning before you go to work, put the temp on low, and it will be cooked to perfection when you get home. Or if it's the weekend, just put it on low and let it cook overnight! You can find Crock Pot/Slow Cooker recipes on KZbin, and recipe websites like AllRecipes.com, bettycrocker.com. Once you start searching the internet for recipes for Crock Pots...you could be looking at recipes all day. I really like www.allrecipes.com...they have an app too. They have people, including chefs who write reviews and have tweaked recipes. I like reading the reviews to see things others did to make the recipe better, or a bit different, and adapting my recipe to suggestions that sound good.

I can make a number of meals from 1 chicken. We have a traditional roast meal. I shred the chicken thighs, legs to make a salad, tacos or chicken alfredo (using white sauce with added cheese), serve with broccoli saute in garlic. I take all the little bits left over usually get from one to 1.5 cups of bits they get mixed with any of the gravy left over, add a bag of mixed veg, add thyme & tosemary to the mix. Put mix into quiche dish top with a pastry sheet, you have chicken pot pie. Lastly I freeze all the bones. I put them into a freezer bag. Later, when I have time or need I make chicken stock from the bones in the crock pot. I do the same with beef cut very very thin. I do my take on Japenese noodles with miso, sirachi etc. Then 2 nights later I turn the left over beef into burritos with black beans & corn mixed in. I believe in using everything you have to get as much from your fiod budget as I can. I freeze corn husks if I have cut off the corn to add to stock pots, the stock is yummy. I also take the stems off broccoli, cauliflower chop into small pieces & throw them into the freezer, then they are ready to throw into veggie soups or pasta sauces.
