I could watch you in the garden for hours! Sadly, I will be saying goodbye to my flower beds at the end of August, and moving into a first-floor apartment. Darn arthritis has made it very difficult to keep up with the mowing. However, I can plant in pots and will do my best to take over some ground around my patio! LOL! So, I will get my big garden fix from watching you. The pot lifter is worth every penny and more because it saves your back; whoever invented it is a genius! What do the ants make tunnels with if there isn't any soil in the container? When I was little they had soil, and you could watch the ants make tunnels through the glass.

I love your greenhouse Catherine it’s like an extra room with lots of light and it looks so cosy when you light it up in the autumn. My greenhouse is a standard metal one which is used for growing tomatoes, peppers etc in the summer and to overwinter my tender plants. Things have been so slow this year in my part of the UK because of all the rain and strong cold winds. It’s been about 14c here today just crazy summer weather. Good wishes to your Mum for a speedy recovery. 🌸🤗

Thanks for sharing your beautiful garden and greenhouse. Our greenhouse is multi function as well ... Summer it is a hot house for potted pepper plants, in autumn I bring in plants to extend the growing season, such as my potted lavender, in our Canadian winter we often light the wood stove and it makes for a cozy rustic spot to enjoy a cup of tea but sheltered from the harsh cold of our region, and in spring its full of plants transitioning from overwintering in the heated garage and waiting to go out to the garden. Year round it is a great place to escape the bugs or rain, to sit with a cup of tea (or glass of wine) and read or knit ... they're such a lovely addition to the garden.

Definitely pot up the dahlias as soon as you can but place them with really good all day sunlight so that they have enough energy to grow, and try not to cut them back in autumn until you absolutely have to so they can get some of that energy back into the tubers for next year. If done soon I suspect you will get some blooms, here’s hoping 😊

What a wonderful auntie! Over the years we've had dogs and cats, guinea pigs (whose home was half the size of the kitchen!), turtles and goldfish, but my first, longest and dearest love is cats. We have two indoor leash cats at the moment; a black rescue named Puss Puss and an orange and white tabby named Rupert. 💕💕 When I was very small, with great fascination and delight I watched one of our cats have kittens. For the next long while I always had to look in the loo before I could flush in case I too had peed kittens :) Do you worry about your wooden furniture on the greenhouse floor suffering from contact with water? There are always seasons in our lives when we can get lots done, or when we have other activities to keep us busy. Be kind to yourself. Love and prayers to your mom xo

A poodle was my first pet because I was the middle child. I was shy and an introvert and I kinda had some health issues going on which made it even worse. Obviously, I outgrew those but to help bring me out of my shy stage. My pediatrician recommended to my parents to buy me a poodle. Poodles were more one owner specific dogs and later on way later on in life I learned that the poodles were actually more attached to my dad lol but if one of them got up underneath, something we had to, then I was the one that could get them to come out nobody else could which was interesting but they did help to, bring me out of that shy introvert stage that I was in to help with the medical issues that they were treating so poodle, a dog an animal that loves unconditionally as you very well know you have cats❤

Little fish, guppies were my first pet, that I didn't have to share with my siblings. My 3 kids had 11 different species of animals in the house while growing up. My husband built me a green house about the size of yours. Every thing was wilted from the heat, here in US, Florida, or eaten by bugs, so I gave up. Sad. You put in the time and you are rewarded, with beautiful flowers and the sound of the birds and you support all life. Well Done, hugs

Hi Catherine! Lovely to see you on a rare sunny summers day😅 i have a greenhouse, but it’s not “ sit in” one, just small for doing jobs. I was admiring how well the brick painted floor came up, I remember when you painted it, it still looks so good. My one and only pet I shared with my brother was a white rabbit, and I know you will be so surprised that he was named “Snowy Snowball” 😂 so original, he lived till 8yrs 🐇 But I have always been fascinated by insects and when I was a child I would collect ants in boxes, give them furniture and food, leaves etc 😁 I would only have them a couple of day, let them go and collect a new set! Your nephew I am sure will be fascinated and delighted with his Ant farm 🐜 Well wishes to your Mum, take care, Suze. 🤗🐝🌻 x

Thank you so much for your kind wishes for my Mum. Take care and enjoy the sunny ( or rainy here in Ireland ) summer days! 🌞🌻🐞

You've actually inspired me to wash the windows in my flat today here in Brooklyn! It's been really hot the last few days here - as high as 90 degrees F (which Google says is 32 or 33 Celsius) and we've been lurking indoors; some rain is due today to give us some relief, and I'll duck out to wash windows and let the rain finish rinsing them. I've been heading out to the neighborhood garden every day, despite the heat - we have a plum tree, and this year it is spewing out plums at full throttle. We have a net up to catch some of the falling plums, but could only rig it up under half the tree - and the OTHER half is dropping plums all over the walkways and into some of the allotments; and one of those allotments is MINE. So I've been heading out every day to help clean up the walkways and to try to pick the plums over my own allotment BEFORE they fall. The free plums are a treat - although I have to admit that having THAT MANY free plums is a bit of a challenge. I had to make jam yesterday because I had so many, there was no way I'd have been able to eat them all. (Everyone in my family is getting a pot of plum jam along with their Christmas gifts this year.) ....I've found an ice cream recipe for the next batch of plums, which will also help with the heat I think....
@DaintyDiaries6 ай бұрын
Wow, your day sounds absolutely productive and delicious! 😊 Washing the windows and enjoying the rain to rinse them off sounds like a perfect plan for a hot day in Brooklyn. And it's fantastic that you're making the most of your neighborhood garden, especially with all those plums from the tree - what a bounty! Plum jam and plum ice cream both sound like wonderful ways to enjoy those fruits. Your family is in for a treat this Christmas! Enjoy the rest of your day, and stay cool! 🌞🍑

Hi Catherine, even though all our seeds are now plants and vegetables, we currently have grow bags in our greenhouse and are growing Butternut Squash. Monty said BNS like to be warm so they are growing wonderfully in the greenhouse. We are also growing tomatoes, cucumber and peppers in the greenhouse at the moment. It will need a good clean, as you are doing, but probably not until Autumn. I am going to carry out an experiment - my Early potatoes are very successful as I think, by the look of them will my later potatoes be. However, I would like potatoes at Christmas, and as you know there are no potatoes sold for sewing in the shops until Feb/March. So I am saving some of the potatoes that I am currently digging up, I have popped them in a bag and put them in a dark cupboard. Come end of August, I shall see If I can bring them on to growing in a bag as before, watch this space hee hee. Thanks for your video Catherine and hope your nephew enjoys the ants. x

Hi Catherine, I bought your 2nd book this week and I enjoy a chapter with a mug of tea (of course!), take the time to relax and chill before settling down to sleep. I dream of easy DIY projects and transforming my patch of grass into the perfect cottage garden 😅 thank you for all your inspiration 😊

Hello Catherine the ant farm you got is different from what I've seen on TV perhaps it's a more modern one. Very interesting I hope Jack was happy with it. Your garden looks great and so does your green house. I have my outside pots on wheels but I have a small patio and it's concrete. I checked out the planter dolly on Amazon and here in the states it's $59.99. thank you for sharing. 😊❤

My first pet was a horse. He was 16.1 hands tall and weighed 1300 lbs. His name was Rebel Commander. I was 18 when I bought him and 38 when I lost him to cancer. It’s been 32 years and I still miss him.

Your garden is looking fab! It's the type of garden I like - 'real.' There is always a job to do, but that's all part of it - as you say a garden is never finished. Someone once told me that a hydrangea's favourite sun, is early morning sun, and that has stood me in good stead for successful maintenance. I don't watch any 'big' accounts on YT as they don't interest me - the channel owners just seem to be so acquisitive, like the greenhouse craze you mention. However these greenhouses have probably never seen a seed, or a speck of compost! 😂
@DaintyDiaries6 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! I'm delighted to hear you appreciate the "real" garden vibe. You're absolutely right - there's always something to do, but that's part of the joy and satisfaction of gardening. I'm glad the tip about hydrangeas and early morning sun has been helpful for you. It's refreshing to hear that you prefer channels with genuine gardening experiences rather than ones focused solely on acquisitions. Gardening is indeed about nurturing and growing, not just collecting things. 😄 Here's to gardens filled with seeds, compost, and plenty of green-thumb adventures! 🌿
