it is important to remember that for the vast majority of strike craft have been up sized so that they are visible and applicable to gameplay, they are well scaled to each other, but once you compare them to frigates and capitol ships you have to understand that they are actually smaller.

Tip: The EVE video was fun because ships - all ships - were next to one another; just randomly placing them around, and separating them by faction and role sure doesn't help much when it comes to size comparison.

Actually homeworld 1 was bigger than hw2. In hw1 guidebook,(at least korean guidebook) it says that the scaffold, which is a shipyard for a mothership is 20km long. And because mothership is bigger than a scaffold, it is estimated by over 30km. However, because hw1 cannot support its massiveness in that technology, it was needed to be shrinken.

I wish mothership was 30km, that would be cool. You know, in japan mecha animes, there are some large mechas which is as large as a planet and i don't understand why homeworld needs to be that small. In fact, I'm so much fan of homeworld that I believe progenitors can destroy forerunners and precursors in HALO series.

CosMos in halo the ships are not 2 or 3, but more than 25 kilo meters, the two worlds are not too similar especially as forerunners have weapons capable of destroying the planetary systems within seconds. This property is far from what may be the progenitors

Actually the game could deal with the scales. The ships used to scale larger as you zoomed out so you could see them. There was a MOD around which changed the ship files so they didnt scale. Damn, I miss HW1 :( I spent hundreds of hours playing that game.

HW2 works on Win7 32bit, probably will work on 64bit if you run it with XPSP3 compatibility. Either way you have to turn on v-sync so that it doesn't lag ingame

Yes, from the start. Then afterwards perspective is lost (in my opinion). I would put smallest known moon there in the background or mount Everest. Something that doesn't become smaller than some pixels. Different star comparison videos are also nice to feel awe. This video is great in any case.

Problem with calculations?? Compare size of shipyards with battlecruisers - example: Hiigarian s-yard - 2265 m - cruiser when ready uses 65-70% size of shiyard: 2265*0.65 - 0.7 = 1472 - 1585 m. That's size of battlecruiser. And the 2nd problem - carriers. Vaygr uses escort carriers - that's why they have more powerful weaponary but can build only 1 produsing module. Instead Hiigarian uses full support carrier with maximum building ability - all 3 types of modules including frigates. So Vaygr carrier is much smaller while Hiigarian much bigger then described in video - please correct those mistakes.

Impossible - need high control material conversion technology. Both Hiigarian and Vaygr don't have it - so they need shipyards to build capital ship class. And they have only cruisers - imagine what types of ships can be builded with that tech: dreadnaughts, titans and even Doom Star class (Master of Orion 2) e.t.c.

Simple enough - need to build up all modules of ship separatly first. Then transport them to the place where they will be assembled and connected - it's require a LOT of time + several capital ship class supporters (you remember Bishop-transports). Then after testing shipyard is boarding by it's crew - which numbers are also maybe very small, if technology is very advanced. And then - LAUNCH! Shipyard is ready to travel in space - but for long range both Hiigarian and Vaygr are using hyperspace drive.

From what I saw a year ago on some website, the fighters were once smaller. The devs changed it back because they thought that the fighters were two hard to see. They were around one third the current size I think.

Odd thing is, I thought that in the story manual for the original Homeworld they described the original Hiigaran mothership as something like 20+ km high. Not 3. I know these were taken as direct comparisons of the ship models from the game, I guess they didn't get the size differences right.

I'm not talking about the storyline from their ancient exile, I'm talking about the in-game mothership you fly around with and use; the instruction manual said something like it would take 70 years to build and was 20 km high (I think). And also countering your point, given the in-game cutscene that the Bentuusi show you where there was no mothership during the exile, just a convoy of freighter-like things that they directly say was "faulty technology" and 3 of them are shown landing on Kharak you're wrong on that point too.

Is it me or does the fighter/bomber proportion sizes for the factions seem incorrect? Their sizes range from 20m - 40m thats huge! Almost on par with the Corvettes which are around 40m-60m length. I thought that snub fighters and bombers would be substantially smaller in size.

We're getting remastered versions here pretty soon of both 1 and 2. Not Cataclysm sadly... And there is another Homeworld game on the way called Homeworld: Shipbreakers. Its made by a company (Blackbird Interactive) made up of a lot of the developers who originally worked at Relic making the first ones. The game was originally planned to just be the spiritual successor to Homeworld (original title was Hardware: Shipbreakers) but since THQ went belly-up the Homeworld rights were snapped up by Gearbox who gave Blackbird the rights to use the Homeworld title. They are no longer making the spiritual successor but the actual successor. They went back to the drawing board with a lot of what they were going to do and it seems to be coming along quite nicely.

+General Coma Most people seem to forget that the Progenitors are relics left behind by the previous Hiigarans, their own technology, before that Empire collapsed due to infighting and being a bit overconfident, attacking other races including the Bentusi - thus leading to their exile to Kharak. But it still isnt explained, anywhere, what the MASSIVE constructs in the Karos Graveyard are. They are simply 10^10x the size of even the Progenitor Flagship described in the cutscene. The wreckage we see in some levels is simply so enormous beyond scale it is difficult to compare it to anything we know of.
