The first Homeworld game (remastered) was an amazing journey for me. I loved the idea of fighting across the entire galaxy to reach the place that was once called home. In my play through, I did everything I could to take what belonged to the enemy, and make it mine. For example, I took literally every Cruiser that I came across. By the time I arrived at the final battle, I had well exceeded fleet capacity by doing that.

Hype for those of us who passed on Deserts of Kharak perhaps. As much as I've enjoyed the campaign and soundtrack of that game, it had several serious issues. GEARBOX, PLEASE. This is my favourite franchise, that I've immersed myself within for decades. You can't repeat the mistakes of DoK here. This game MUST have mod support -- release modding tools. It needs a decent AI system, not one based on outright cheating the numbers. For Kharak's sake, give us basic HOMEWORLD customization in skirmish. DoK offered set colours, NO badge choice and no way of implementing our own badges into the game. On top of it, my main faction, for which I had to pay, allowed only for the colour choice of two thin stripes across its vehicles. Disgrace! Also, don't force players to modify game files if they desire to change keybindings. Ever again.

I posted one a week ago and i couldn't find it anymore so i wrote another one. Gone as well. They just switched their FIG comment section from "anyone can comment" to "anyone who donates 50$ or more gets to comment" too, essentially censoring anyone who won't pledge based on store related concerns. I'm guessing your comment still stands because it doesn't mention it by name. It must become top comment so the devs get the message despite their publisher's best efforts at hiding it.

Seeing as how the studio most recently made Deserts of Kharak as a land based prequel to the series and it included excellent use of a veterancy system and unique/diverse unit abilities (and at least featured late game command cruiser superweapons), I'd say they have a good idea of what to aim for. What does RNG mean?
@gavinator3545 жыл бұрын
@@discman15 RNG stands for "random number generator", a common acronym to describe when a game mechanic (like dealing damage) uses a random amount of damage between a min and a max, to determine the damage dealt. In the original Homeworld, all bullets fired from the ships did damage if they made contact with the enemy, and it relied on you as the player to properly set your squads to the right squad formation based on the kind of attack needed. Unfortunately when Gearbox did the Homeworld Remastered game, they replaced that system with RNG. Your squad would be in formation and then the moment they made enemy contact the ships would fly around in random patterns, completely ignoring the squad formation, dealing RNG damage instead of actual bullet collisions determining the damage dealt. It was something that was not well received.

@IRMentat5 жыл бұрын
Miron Smith I’d actually like that. Gearbox are at their best when adding to the franchise of another company rather than when making their own engines to play a bland FPS experience within. I like the theme and design of Borderlands but the engine is trash, the gunplay some of the clunkiest (it’s one is the reasons that PvP game sucked, another was the visual clutter and prevalence of stun locks) and the ability system was “one button to rule them all”. The melee, grenade, 4 weapons was trend setting (in its simplicity), but 3-5 active abilities each would have gone a long way to making each talent tree more than a one trick pony over-reliant on repetition/spam

Deserts of Kharak was just _wonderful._ I know it didn't make a big splash and, being dirt-bound, it didn't appeal to all HW fans, but it really tapped into the same "stranded on a big mothership, on your own, in hostile territory, journeying and discovering mysteries as you slowly grow from a ragtag gang of refugees to a superpower"-feel that the HW of old had.

SNS CHL Deserts if Kharak spent so much time and energy of the late re-theme that a lot of the other systems suffered as a result (AI, faction variety, “floaty” ground combat). I would have much rather the game remained a homage as plain simple Shipbreakers, but I do appreciate the work put into the title.

What I really like about the Homeworld universe is that all the while as you go about the missions and the saga evolves, you discover extinct ancient civilizations that possessed an almost God-tier engineering capability in the likes of a type 2-3 civilization. You get to witness their dead relics that they used to harvest entire star systems when you yourself use your resource collectors on measly asteroids. It is as if your story has already been told countless times by countless now dead civilizations and will continue to do so through all time. Homeworld evokes that feeling that whatever our current struggles might be, we really are insignificant creatures in the grand scheme of things and it brings me a sense of calming awe. ...And the music is excellent!

Audio, design aesthetics, acting cast, directing/view angles, all just "perfect." Every detail is screaming Homeworld. It's simply a trailer and yet it's a damn masterpiece... (Relic/Blackbird and Gearbox inspired me towards my career, and this is just giving me a hard on....) As a nerd and engineer, I still look at Homeworld vessels, and see a huge amount of practicality ontop of their aesthetic design. Edit: I waited 4 years patiently for a disappointment...

Early signs from voice acting are good. The original made you feel a tug at your heart strings every time you lost a single ship. The pilots sounded like real people trying to stay calm and professional in the face of oblivion, instead of actors trying to inject drama into everything. There was a very subtle atmosphere of desperation while trying to keep it together and stay cool. Make it sound like real people again, real radio chatter. That carried far more actual drama and emotion that some voice actors giving it the beans and playing a character. Listen to the flight director tapes for the Apollo 13 mission for inspiration. Don’t make it Hollywood.

Every so often I'll see someone bring this up, and feel very happy that it gets noticed. I like not being the only one to appreciate the understated yet great voice work that went in to the Homeworld games, including DoK. There's some really good chatter when you zoom in on units.

Oxytocin I just didn’t like Cataclysm with ‘ooo my head’ for a Ramming Frigate. Took it from a super suspenseful and dramatic space opera to a cartoon where nothing really matters and its all a bit silly. Sound more like a NASA mission control room and less like a Hollywood movie and we’re good!
