There are homes in Baltimore where you can still see tunnels and secret doors that were part of the underground Railroad.

Yes Baltimore was an important connection for slaves and those helping the runaways going north.

ej2: thank you so much for this. It's HOMICIDE at its multi-faceted best. This tight sequence is a stellar blend of acting, screenwriting, timing, dialogue, music and Clark Johnson delivering Meldrick at his best. I love Meldrick's response "Cold Black Steed? - I'll be damned" and then his gentle kindness with the mother at the front door. This episode is under-rated; it is motion picture in quality and condensed in an outstanding 46 minute story.

I agree that this episode as a whole is underrated. It gave Meldrick's character a chance to shine (but I could have done without Falsone). I'll have the other clip up tomorrow (Sorry that it's taking me a bit of time, my work schedule is making me exhausted). Anyways, happy Homicide watchin'!

I do believe the character of Dennis Rigby was the inspiration of Bro Mouzone in The Wire

Clark Johnson (Lewis) is from Philadelphia. Andre Braugher is from Chicago, but his character was originally from NY who later moved to B-more.

Wasn't that song used in the remake of The Thomas Crown Affair? PS, I get it. Nice. It was cool to see it happen in our lifetime.

Before it was "hip" to use source music in TV shows (as is so prevalent now), this show was great for that.
