Many thanks, I have been researching "pigeon racing game" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Hansaac Riyliver Scheme - (search on google ) ? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my brother in law got excellent success with it.

I am not so interested in racing pigeons or raising fancy ones, but after starting (quite by accident) to rescue sick, injured and young abandoned feral pigeons at my worksite last year, I have to say they have completely taken over my heart.....and my house!! I am so grateful for your information and experience in your videos. I want to do a better job caring for these beautiful birds and getting them ready to be wild once again and leave (hopefully) and this vaccination how-to was really useful. Thank you, Sean.

Good evening Sean, Got the info on PMV. Now YB’s gets first shot maybe 3 weeks than later gets 2nd boosters at 4 weeks. Now OB’s will they also get 2 shots yearly? For POX have you inoculated birds? And used 3/1 product for canker, worms and cocci. Where do you purchase these items?
@alohapigeons9440
@alohapigeons9440 6 жыл бұрын
I purchase most of my supplies from Siegel Pigeons online. I would suggest following the instructions that come with the vaccine. I used the Pharmavac Columbi 2 PMV vaccine this year and the instructions say to give the young birds their first dose at 5 weeks of age and then a second dose 3 to 4 weeks after the first dose. The instructions for this vaccine say the old birds only need to be vaccinated one dose once a year. I vaccinated for POX 8 days ago and the birds are just starting to show visual signs at the vaccination site. I plan to show this and talk about how I vaccinated for POX in my next video. I ordered both of these vaccines from Bird Supply Warehouse. I will be treating for canker, worms, and cocci in June or July. Aloha, Sean

@alohapigeons9440
@alohapigeons9440 6 жыл бұрын
As soon as your birds look like they can fly up to the landing board you can open the loft. Earlier in their development is good because they won't be ready to fly far from the loft. When you let them out for the first few times they might not even fly which is good. Make sure they are hungry so it's easy to get them back in your loft. Don't do anything to make them fly. They should feel safe. You can just leave the loft open for most of the day and let them come and go. If there is a bigger flock flying near you, you will have a greater chance of losing birds if you are flying a smaller flock. Best of luck to you! Aloha, Sean

Good afternoon Sean, I guess it's safe to say for YB's after cutting the 10th & 9th flights and pulling tail feathers. Come 13th day pull 10th & 9th flights. From the 13th day on is 6 weeks the norm time for birds to have molted there primary, secondary and body feathers to complete there molting process?

Hi , I use a old fashioned syringe but you are correct it can be a problem when you do it your self , I saw you using the injection gun and was simple so I order one from California supply house I hope is a good one this one injects 0-3 . I’m getting ready for the first race next Saturday OB 150 Miles they have 13 tosses so far some of the last years late hatches not doing that good coming in couple hours late but I think they be ok by the end of next week. The weather is been a problem here yesterday was 83F today 45F and rain just not good at all . Any way I just band # 45 good luck with your flying season 👍

Not yet. I did what I should not have done and put the 1st and second round together but only because I had to many birds in the second round to be kept on one side of the flying loft. Also, I don't want to have to fly the birds separate every day or separate them in the loft every day if I did fly them all at the same time. They're going to be held back a little but I will make up for the lost time.

Sean, great instructional video. When i had birds that i vaccinated, i used to give the shots in the outside of upper leg. Did the vaccine you used say to inject under the skin specifically? I injected into the muscle. And the needles i used were very small. A bit longer than the gun but smaller in diameter. That is an awesome sign your mom made for you. I would make a wooden template copy of it and use it to paint on the lofts and put up the one your mom made inside the house. Thanks again for another great vid update!! Aloha... HB

Thanks Brian, no the vaccine did not say anything about how to inject the birds or maybe it did, it was not in english. Is there a reason I should inject into the muscle? I figure the vaccine is being absorbed into the body either way. Let me know.
@bettawhisperer3119

AlohaPigeons what language was it? I happen to speak Spanish too. not quite as fluent as before but if it is in Spanish I might be able to understand enough to see the dosage and how/where to inject the vaccine. Most vaccines and meds are most effective when injected into the fatty or fleshy area of the animal. For birds it's usually the upper leg. For most others it's the hind quarters. Injection under the skin should be alright. it will take longer to get into the circulatory system and depending on the type of meds/vaccine it may not be as effective under the skin as it would be if injected into muscle. I don't see much of a problem because it's an inoculation and not a cure of something already contracted. Let me know if there is anything I can help you with further. I'm always here whenever you need help. Just text me anytime. sounds good?

Good afternoon Sean, in your own way do you clip your birds 9th & 10th flights to quicken the molting process? When do you start cutting there flights. Molt season starts in what month.
@alohapigeons9440
@alohapigeons9440 6 жыл бұрын
Yes I do cut and pull the 9th & 10th flights. Most people that use the light method here in Hawaii turn off the lights between April 1st and May 1st and they cut the tips off the 9th and 10th flight about 13 days before then or around that time so that the feather dries out and dies. Then they pull the 9th and 10th flight after the 13th day. Some also pull some or all of the tail feathers at the same time.
@hana-houswif-ters9433
@hana-houswif-ters9433 6 жыл бұрын
So you would only cut the 9th and 10th flights annually with possible tail feathers. No other flights that you would cut? Now on the light system lights would remain on the remaining months all night. And the natural molt months is Aug - Oct?
@alohapigeons9440
@alohapigeons9440 6 жыл бұрын
I can only speak to young bird racing in regards to this technique. It's all about timing because a lot of time the racing season for young birds is when they would naturally be molting. So there are three different strategies; 1) don't manipulate the light and race birds that may be molting, 2) darken the loft so that the birds molt their body but not their flights, 3) extend the day light to about 20 hours a day until about April 1st to May 1st and at about the same time cut the 9th & 10th flights then pull them 13 days later. You don't need to cut the tail feathers if you choose to pull them as well. The birds will then be kept in the loft until their feathers grow back. Once the extended day light ours are stopped the birds will molt their body. I hope that makes sense. Aloha, Sean
@hana-houswif-ters9433

AlohaPigeons a little complicated but I’ll read it over again. Interesting tough an old timer doesn’t really recommends it. In which he had success doing without it in his OB season.But, his brother would cut 6 flights at once and vaccinate birds for pox and PMV the same time and after 13 days he’d pulled flights while he waits for birds to activate vaccines.

If there is are letters and numbers on the band you can go to this website to find the owner www.pigeon.org/lostbirdinfo.htm You can care for the pigeon by giving it water, seed, and grit. The three of you are welcome to visit. I can't remember when he was coming. FYI, the first week of May might not work for me because of my work schedule.

Please answer ... what do you use your white pigeon for and what kind of pigeon is it. Thank you

It’s my dropper that I use to get my homers to land. When your homers are flying over the loft and you want them to land you toss this dropper in the direction of the landing board and the homers will land. One of my older videos that has this white bird as the thumbnail shows me doing this.

Sorry to hear that. I vaccinate for pmv once a year and pox only one time for each bird. Fresh clean water with Apple cider vinegar 2tbs per gallon with some smashed garlic. Fresh grit ever day and a clean dry loft with good ventilation. This will all go a long way to insure the health of your birds. I try to avoid medication unless the birds are racing. Best of luck. Aloha, Sean

Awesome! Where are you located? You should try to get in contact with other flyers in your area. Hopefully your local flyers are willing to help you out. If you find a flyer that is willing to help you, your best bet is see if they will sell or give you birds to start out with. Some flyers spend a lot of money on birds, you can always go that route too but I don't know anything about that.
