Hi, great video! I actually had very high homocysteine at 45. It was then confirmed that I have MTHFR homozygous C677, with low B12 and Folate. I initially went on a supplement that had Methyl B12, Methyl Folate and Methyl B6 - Methyl Guard. In two months I became B6 toxic! Awful neurological symptoms. I stopped the supplement and now take the RDA of B12, RDA of Folinic Acid along with RDA B2 daily. My homocysteine is now at 7 :) :) And the B6 side effects are slowly going away, thankfully. People need to be very careful taking mega doses of supplements, in particular B6. My naturopathic doctor was not even aware of this potential toxicity with B6, but she is now. Thank you for doing this video! You always have excellent content.

Curious, we’re you taking the P-5-P form of B6? Many w MTHFR need this form of B6 (especially those of us w a 2nd toe that is longer than the big toe). I am taking Dr Ben Lynch’s formula, HomocysteX, trying to get my homocysteine down. He has clean products.
@michellebaker10work2 жыл бұрын
@@annettewebster296 Yes I was taking the P-5-P version. The product was Thorne Methyl Guard. The recommended dosage was 3 a day, and I was only taking 2. And Yes, I’ve watched a lot of Dr. Ben Lynch’s videos!!! He’s helped me a lot in coming up with a plan. I now take his Folinic Acid supplement. It’s about 4 times the RDA so I take 1/4 lozenge a day. His combo product that also had the B12 with it was out of stock when I ordered so I take a separate B12 that is dropped dosed to be close to the RDA. He actually talked about not needing to take Folinic acid or MethylFolate every day if you don’t have a lot of stress, and you’re eating your leafy greens. He views the supplement as just that, a supplement, not something that needs taking daily regardless.

One of the most important things to recognize about vitamin B12 and about folic acid, is that the brand of B12 and folic acid that you take must be methylated. Taking a bunch of B12 or folic acid does absolutely nothing for a person who has an MTHFR single nucleotide polymorphism. Easily purchased drops to put under the tongue and supplement with some P--5-P form of B6 in its most compatible form, and you're good to go as far as homocysteine is concerned. Of course this is no substitute for eating a crappy diet

The elation between Meth, Hcys and cysteine has been described in the wrong way! amazingly. hcys is not the intermediate between meth and cysteine. For the route from HCys to cysteine only B6 is needed. Overall it is wrong to say, HCys must be broken down. Its a crucial component in the metabolic cycle producing the capacity for methylation.

My homocysteine came back at 60. I've also been taking creatine with tmg and then switched to phosphatidylcholine and creatine. So who only knows what my homocysteine actually is if i wasn't taking those to reduce it. I have not been taking normal does of any of that because my body has a strong reaction to all of it. Im homozygous for c677t and have had depression, anxiety, insomnia, migraines, chronic fatigue all of my life. I cannot tolerate b vitamins. I cannot tolerate coq10. I now know coq10 is produced via methylation and if you're deficient in mthfr you're body wont produce enough coq10. I cannot tolerate protein. Protein shakes, high protein meats gives me a migraine within 30 minutes after consumption.

I am homozygous MTHFR and it got really bad for me before I was diagnosed. It stills blows my mind that this condition isn't more widely understood by doctors. Two of my four daughters unfortunately also are homozygous and I hear it can be much more of a problem for females, especially during pregnancy. I am an unrepentant knucklehead when it comes to following a good diet so supplementation and physical activity have helped me. Metagenics makes methylated multi and specifically B vitamins supplements, Ceralin Forte being a lifesaver for me. Seeing my homocysteine reading go from red (as high as 20 consistently) to green on my blood tests (it's still at 10, but has stayed ridiculously stable at 10 for over a year now which is about 5 blood tests) and knowing I have answers for my daughters so it doesn't have to get as bad for them as it did for me is a good feeling.

How about low homocysteine? Like really, really low - below 1. There is an adequate sources of dietary methionine intake (meat), no genetic MTHFR defect. I believe there would be low/no cysteine in this case which will result in low glutathione. This is equally as bad as high homocysteine as detoxification would struggle and there would be high oxidative stress. Just thinking logically after listening to the lecture…
