Brought a tear to my eye seeing the Dajiro Kato bike. True talent, blessed to have met him and seen him race many times. Ran away with the 250 title, no one could touch him. Would of been a Moto go world champ at some point. RIP#74

I remember Honda bringing the NR500 to Laguna Seca with Freddie Spencer at the controls. Back in the day the fans could get very close. I stood on the left side of the bike as a mechanic was blipping the throttle, while Freddie approached in full battle gear. The lowest number on the tachometer was 10,000! What a sound she made. WAAH! WAAH! WAAH! WAAH! So cool.

Brilliance and so ahead of it's time. +193322009 it's not Mr Japan's fault it's the stupid american strict regulations and europeans specs that eventually killed the 2 strokes. they want to make us believe that it was because of pollution issues but it reality it's becausr they knew they couldn't beat Mr Japan when it came to two stroke craftmaship.

Commiefornia are banning the sale of new 2 stroke motorcycles in 2021 and with good reason. I had a RD250 as a kid. Apparently it was in great condition and was about as good as they got but it required one to be full on the gas and deal with that annoying noise that sounded like Jar Jar Binks being tickled in a blender. Off the gas it was crap, on the gas it was good for all of a 1,500rpm power band. The RD500C was more fun but had the same narrow power band and anything over 200 miles left you with a sore left leg from the 32,432,432,657 gear changes needed to keep it in the power band. From riding this, I could see why most bike races were never several hours long. I pity the bastards that had to ride the 6 hour races on it. I got wise to the fact that 4 stroke bikes were better to ride early on. Back in the day I loved my EXUP. RIP my FZR. So much faster and way easier to ride. But today, I'll keep my S1000RR. The world doesn't need oil burners that dump more pollution into the air just warming up than your average car emits in 12,000 miles. But despite the fact that I'm an old ornery man, if you call 49 old, I can't wait for someone to make a kick ass electric bike. I never got the fad of a loud exhaust - I don't want the cops further down the canyon knowing I'm coming from 2 miles away. Why would you want that? If you sneak up on the rozzers at 100mph with no sound, they're not going to have the speed gun ready, they'd still have one hand of the coffee cup and the other on the donut. Even the BMW electric scooter that I had a test ride on when my S1000RR was in for its first service was more fun that I ever remember the RD500C being. Then again, I expected the RD to be fast and it kinda was but I expected the C Evo to be slow and boring and had the shit surprised out of me. That it went around corners as well as the RD and had as much torque (but in a very linear way from a dead stop) just shows how far things have moved on. The new S1000RR has a 9,000rpm range where it is over 100nm of torque 5,500 to 14,600rpm. It almost makes you want to forget about changing gear and just smash it in the twisties in 1st gear all day and come home a sweat soaked fool that can't stop laughing. That said, I hope that the bikes in the video are kept in tip-top shape and running for many years to come. It's great when we can see how things were back in the day and how far each generation of bikes moves on.
So awesome :) I’ve had 3 two stroke Honda’s and have one now :) I love them ! Wish Honda would make more new ones ! 🙏🙏🙏

Joe Armijo I'm not sure but I would guess around 85lb going off the rpm and power. 2 strokes actually make a LOT of torque at peak. People think they don't because they only make it in certain rpm ranges but they push hard when they're on pipe.

To the people that keeps on telling that 2 strokes engines should not keep that long for break-in's, you don't know how 2 stroke engine works! Have you notice the smoke coming out of the pipe? It's denser than a regular 2 stroke bike can blew off! 2 stroke engines will run as smooth as it is, as powerful as it is without breaking it's block off as long as it's 2t oil is maintained. The higher cc and rpm your 2 stroke is the higher the 2t oil it needs!

herbyverstink It looks like you never heard of Mike Hailwood, Phil Read, Jarno Sarinen, John Surtees, Jim Redman, Giacomo Agostini, Geoff Duke. Just to name a few. And some of them not only won more titles in GP racing, but also won Man TT (Hailwood like 13 or 14, Agostini 10 or 11), something that doesn't happen for like 30 years. Oh, and Surtees, the only man to win the world championship of the top motorcycle (GP500) and car (F1) categories. Doohan is in the Top 10 no doubt, but there are some ahead.

Tune an RG500, an RD/RZV500, an NS400R, a Bimota V-due 500, and you'll experience similar performance. A stage 4 porting with related other mods give them old GP500 performance now, since tuning has advanced since these ran races. Rg500 in an Aprilia RS250 fram is my best tip, the socalled "RS500/RGV500" bikes folks make now. Swap old original parts for newer, lighter race parts, tune to the hilt and have real wild 2T action!
