Brought a tear to my eye seeing the Dajiro Kato bike. True talent, blessed to have met him and seen him race many times. Ran away with the 250 title, no one could touch him. Would of been a Moto go world champ at some point. RIP#74

This is the pinnacle. When I think of the kings, I think of NSR, RGV, TZR, and yes, RS250. It will never get better. Watching the 97 NSR500 around the track is trying to justify mid 80's turbo F1. Brilliance and so ahead of it's time. I remember Honda bringing the NR500 to Laguna Seca with Freddie Spencer at the controls. Back in the day the fans could get very close. I stood on the left side of the bike as a mechanic was blipping the throttle, while Freddie approached in full battle gear. The lowest number on the tachometer was 10,000! What a sound she made. WAAH! WAAH! WAAH! WAAH! So cool.

Commiefornia are banning the sale of new 2 stroke motorcycles in 2021 and with good reason. I had a RD250 as a kid. Apparently it was in great condition and was about as good as they got but it required one to be full on the gas and deal with that annoying noise that sounded like Jar Jar Binks being tickled in a blender. Off the gas it was crap, on the gas it was good for all of a 1,500rpm power band. The RD500C was more fun but had the same narrow power band and anything over 200 miles left you with a sore left leg from the 32,432,432,657 gear changes needed to keep it in the power band. From riding this, I could see why most bike races were never several hours long. I pity the bastards that had to ride the 6 hour races on it. I got wise to the fact that 4 stroke bikes were better to ride early on. Back in the day I loved my EXUP. RIP my FZR. So much faster and way easier to ride. But today, I'll keep my S1000RR. The world doesn't need oil burners that dump more pollution into the air just warming up than your average car emits in 12,000 miles. But despite the fact that I'm an old ornery man, if you call 49 old, I can't wait for someone to make a kick ass electric bike. I never got the fad of a loud exhaust - I don't want the cops further down the canyon knowing I'm coming from 2 miles away. Why would you want that? If you sneak up on the rozzers at 100mph with no sound, they're not going to have the speed gun ready, they'd still have one hand of the coffee cup and the other on the donut. Even the BMW electric scooter that I had a test ride on when my S1000RR was in for its first service was more fun that I ever remember the RD500C being. Then again, I expected the RD to be fast and it kinda was but I expected the C Evo to be slow and boring and had the shit surprised out of me. That it went around corners as well as the RD and had as much torque (but in a very linear way from a dead stop) just shows how far things have moved on. The new S1000RR has a 9,000rpm range where it is over 100nm of torque 5,500 to 14,600rpm. It almost makes you want to forget about changing gear and just smash it in the twisties in 1st gear all day and come home a sweat soaked fool that can't stop laughing. That said, I hope that the bikes in the video are kept in tip-top shape and running for many years to come. It's great when we can see how things were back in the day and how far each generation of bikes moves on.
Really miss this awsome 2 stroke Honda's! nice video! cheers

By displacement, 2 strokes will always be the option of choice for a serious rider who can keep it in the power band through a curve like a big boy. It's like drivers who can use a manual vs. drivers who can't, the difference in quality of driving is night and day.

Joe Armijo I'm not sure but I would guess around 85lb going off the rpm and power. 2 strokes actually make a LOT of torque at peak. People think they don't because they only make it in certain rpm ranges but they push hard when they're on pipe.

When I got those 2-stroke bike, I thought it was a helpless bike against a 4-stroke 400cc. Until I decided to try one, and then I met a corner at Suzuka... Damn, these 2-strokers are riding on rails. I took note of their lightweightedness and amazing cornering ability. So cool!
