Comparing the LTZ to the EX, I've had several of both, the LTZ's have had a history of problems with the waterpumps and timing chain tensioners failing and destroying your motor, on the 400EX, all you need to do is put on an aftermarket slip on pipe and do a proper rejet and keep clean oil and air filter and ride forever, not to mention a 400EX that is jetted right F'n ripps and is a blast to ride. Newer the better on the EX, they upgraded the Showa suspension in 08 when they restyled the plastic. Another thing worth mentioning is that the 400EX still has the easy to adjust tappet valves where as the LTZ you have to pull the cams for the aggravating shim and bucket style valves, a lot more involved. I'd love to have one of these CT Racing EX's.

I agree with you on the reiablity part, however for most riders buying a 400cc quad wont race it. I understand ATVondemand knows this, but i couldn't say why they made it in 2014 when race 450's are abondant now. Anyway back to my point, these quads (ltz and 400ex) are ment for the trail mainly. I personally have a 2005 ltz and that thing is a monster on the trails. I also love the fact its water cooled, so youe put around on technical trails. The honda seems like it's being branded for the trails but it's an older race bike from the 90's. Both are great bikes, but i personally haven't had any issues with mine. I can see why i would sound biased, but in truth i wanted a 400x originaly, but couldn't find one for a good and condition. Over the long turn tho, I'd have the honda.

Wyatt Baird sorry we never responded to you sooner. CT racing and Teixeira Tech built this machine for younger Racers racing in a 400cc based class in cross-country. Sure, a 450 would be faster, but it wouldn't be legal. Plus, there are a lot of writers out there who already have some modifications for their machine and they're looking for other ways to hop it up. When we test machines like this we don't typically expect people to completely duplicate the build. We expect most people to pick and choose the parts that fit their needs best to fill out their own build. Love the LTZ. I did a build on a KFX 400 back in my ATV scene days.

ATVonDemand What would be a good place to have my 400ex engine rebuilt? Not looking to bore or go faster, just seeking a pro to freshen up my stock engine. I have a new jug, piston& rings, etc.. in the box to start. Also, how much would a entire set of valves cost? My ex is a 2007 by the way. Thanks. I live in Erie, Pa.

Personally I'd run a 400ex over a 450.. I'd run the biggest motor kit ct offers and run that exact setup.. Don't get me wrong I like 450s but you will get alot more races out of a built 400ex motor than a 450 motor in my experience. Great presentation and build!!

We would love to but unfortunately the manufacturers can't send discontinued vehicles to us and we don't have the budget to purchase them. Filming other people's machines is not a good idea because if we wipe one out we're responsible for it. We get a ton of requests for vintage machine tests. Perhaps it's time to start our patreon page to help fund the purchase of these old machines for testing.

@ATVonDemand4 жыл бұрын
When those machines first hit the market we were amazed how smoothly they got around our local natural terrain motocross track. They're good over small to intermediate sized Bumps and Jumps. If the obstacles aren't too big and you are good at hitting the downside it is pretty capable with stock suspension. There are a few reasonably affordable aftermarket shock upgrades out there if you want to go big. Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

@ATVonDemand8 жыл бұрын
+Persistent Gaming According to the government and Honda no. However, neither of them would have a problem with you riding a faster 125 two-stroke or 250cc four-stroke dirt bike. Officially our answer is no. That being said, choosing the right ATV is about experience, maturity, and physical size. We cant see a 6 foot tall 14 year old riding a 90 and we wouldn't recommend a 400X/EX for a 4'11" 14 year old who has never ridden an ATV. King of vague, we know.
