Note to anyone who does this, make sure when you put your 3/8 ratchet into the bolt that you are pushing the button to retract the ball (that normally locks the socket) in and then push the racket on snug onto the bolt. The little ball on the should not be visible and completely inside the bolt. This is important because if it's not in there completely, you'll risk malforming the nut with that little ball when you try to torque it off. Just important to mention anyways

I just did this, 2012 Accord, 58,500 miles on the odo. My mother's car, she pays a local mechanic to service it for her, as she has had very bad experiences at the local Honda dealers in the area. Well, this guy did nothing other than oil changes. I got ahold of the car as it needed brakes. I had to beat the pads out of the brackets with a 3 pound sledge hammer. Both front calipers weeping, tried to rebuild but the cylinders were too far gone. So, two new calipers, four rotors, and two sets of pads. Power steering pump screaming, flushed that, flushed brake fluid, serviced the cooling system, oil and filter, and then the transmission, it was singing too... Used 9 quarts as you stated, last drain and fill we had gorgeous purple fluid coming out. Car now runs like new. Really pisses me off, this mechanic of her's, he was a Honda Tech for years. He never even checked the brake pads on this thing! Hell, you do not even have to remove the wheels to do that. Great video. Sorry for the rant. I hate these new mechanics, many are just outright thieves.

When youre pouring fluid in it shouldnt read up to the high fill mark.. the fluid is cold.. transmission fluid should be checked at operating temperature and with car off and should read between the 2 dots.. therefore when youre adding new fluid which is cold it should read at the low level that way when it gets hot and expands it will give you a reading between the 2 dots..

DO I need to change the oil filter every single time ? I use the recommended mobil 1 oil with the extended performance mobil 1 oil filter. and I change every 5k . thanks.!!!
@CarsNToys8 жыл бұрын
Best bet is checking the owner's manual. I don't have one handy for your Accord, but chances are the tranny fluid is lifetime; unless you tow with the vehicle, use in muddy conditions, etc. Regarding the engine oil, chances are you can go beyond 5k miles if you're using mobil1. But check the owners' manual. You'll find maintenance intervals listed.

@CarsNToys4 жыл бұрын
Recommended every six years or 120k miles, whichever comes first.
@1Mannco Жыл бұрын
Make sure you have ATF in it and it's level is full first. Sounds more serious for only that mileage. Probably should have a mechanic drive it and check it out. Reguarly, for most cars at least drain and fill with 3 quarts[2.6 qts] every 30K to 50K. In your case with it really slipping maybe all of it, but in general, it really shouldn't have every drop of the 9+ quarts changed or doing 3 quarts and driving it and changing it again "3 times" especially if it's really black oil now and smells burnt b/c replacing that with new oil, it might start slipping. That's what I've seen.

@rons91974 жыл бұрын
Clean solenoids and change transmission fluid 3x’s, yes three times . Drain n fill drive around about 20 miles then drain an fill. Drive another twenty miles and drain and fill again. You should be draining 3qts each time and refilling the same amount. 9 qts total 3 each drain n fill. Use nothing but Honda fluids. I take it you have no transmission lights on. Good luck. 93 Accord 265,00 all original drive train automatic transmission.

Honda recommends that the fluid be changed every 30,000 miles…. Where are you getting six years from?
@JohnT20882 жыл бұрын
You sure? 30,000 is too early... for a trans oil I used to work at a honda dealer. We recommend 30,000 miles to upscale and make money but you don’t usually change it until 50-60k miles. I have a friend that has only 20k on his car and his honda is 7 years old. 6 years means that. You don’t necessary have to drive to a certain point of mileage to replace your transmission fluid. If its been long like 7 years you still have to replace it even if its 15k miles. Never listen to any tech or even dealer mechanic. Thats how they make money. + extra commission sales. Always follow the car manual and not the mechanic cause you don’t know whos is legit “honest”or not. 100% of all honda dealer also recommends coolant flush but they never flush it, they only drain and refill just like any other regular person. Super easy job but way to over price at dealership
@michaelwright16022 жыл бұрын
@@JohnT2088 The transmission fluid breaks down in time, even if few miles are driven. It is the additive package that needs to be refreshed. 30,000 miles seems reasonable to me, or every couple of years if not driven that often. Just drain the box and refill, 3 quarts tops. It is an easy job, as the above video showed. Much cheaper than a new transmission.

It isn't tight, the parts seized because the bolt is steel and the transmission casing is aluminum. The metals gall together and seize. The actual torque spec for that bolt is very low. around 16 ft lbs, if you do closer to 40 you're going to strip the weak aluminum transmission casing.
