Dipstick hole every time for these, just take care not to over fill the funnel or it will spill. Have a can or thick rag under just in case.

To make the extension 'cone' that used on the funnel, I took a magazine cover and rolled it over the long side of funnel. Since the funnel is wide on one side and narrow on the other it helped to make the perfect cone for my use. I cut the narrow end to open it for my use so oil can flow. I hope this helps.

The 2003 - 2007 is a really nice and aerodynamically stable car! The 03 needs extra TLC because it was first year of the new model. Does the drain plug gasket (aka crush washers) need to be replaced all 3 times when doing a 3 x's drain and refills? Also is it the same size as the crush washers regarding the transmission filters? Last but not least is 145,000 miles too late for a first drain and refill?
@FlyBeee
@FlyBeee 9 ай бұрын
If you are going to space out the drain & fills over a few hundred miles or more then use a new washer. Just buy online and they are super cheap vs buying in local shop. There is a link in description to the washers I use on my Honda vehicles. All my Hondas use the same washer on transmission fluid bolt so I get a pack when I run out. Not sure if these can be used on transmission filter. As for fluid change at 145K miles, it is risky and I cover this in the narrative in description of video, be sure to review all of it and proceed as you seem fit. Best wishes.

Thank you so liking the video :) In this 07 Accord 3.5 quarts of transmission fluid drains out every time I do fluid change so I replace it with the same quantity and then do the fluid level check with the dip stick. My driveway has a little incline so may be that a factor in quantity of fluid that comes out. When you do the fluid change on your Accord please check to see how much came out of vehicle, then start with 3 quarts of new fluid and add more as needed to get to correct fluid level. When checking transmission fluid level warm up the vehicle to operating temperature. I hope this helps. Best wishes!

If you have one of those fluid suction devices, can you just insert the tube into the transmission fluid check tube and drain out say 3 quarts and fill it with 3 quarts?
@FlyBeee
@FlyBeee 2 жыл бұрын
I have not tried it but in concept it should work. A couple things to consider a) the drain bolt has black color magnet on the inside that catches metal shavings which we clean out before reinstalling the drain bolt. By using suction device from the top you wouldn't be able to clean this. Also any particles in the fluid should deposit on the lower part of the transmission and easily drain out when using the drain bolt. But if the drain bolt is stuck then changing the fluid from the top would work. In case it is relevant, check out my video on how to open a stuck drain bolt kzbin.info/www/bejne/aaDGmZ-qd7yImqc

Good night, what would be the recommended oil for the Accord 2005 2.4 EX and how many liters should be put? Thank you very much in advance
@FlyBeee
@FlyBeee 2 жыл бұрын
I would recommend to use Honda transmission fluid for your Accord and you would need about 4 quarts (4 bottles of 1 quart each). There are different fluids for manual vs automatic transmission so be sure to get the correct one for your vehicle. If you not sure which fluid to get then call the Honda dealer nearest you and get the part number for the fluid/oil. Fall season is typically slow time for vehicle repairs and Honda dealer parts depts offer discounts so be sure to check out their website. For drain pan and other supplies check out the description of this video. I hope this helps. Best wishes

If it’s hot isn’t that fluid expand? If u put cold fluid inside the same amount won’t that actually too much?
@FlyBeee
@FlyBeee 28 күн бұрын
Very good point. Yes, the fluid expands with heat and that makes a difference in fluid level. Replace the transmission fluid with vehicle engine is not hot. I work on min when it is sitting for a few hrs so the fluid I remove and the new I add are all at the same room temperature. Measure the fluid level before the change, and after doing the fluid change, drive around the vehicle, park again, wait for it to cool down and check fluid level again.

@FlyBeee
@FlyBeee Жыл бұрын
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I will make one and post. For now, to check the transmission fluid level on your relative's Accord 2003-2007, (1) start the car, drive for a minute, bring it back and park on flat surface and, turn of ignition and let it sit for about 5 minutes. (2) locate the transmission fluid dip-stick (should be near the battery). See counter 4:20 of this video for location of dip-stick hole. (3) pull the dip-stick out and remove from transmission (4) clean the end of the dip-stick with a rag or paper towel (5) fully insert the dip-stick back into the transmission (see counter 4:20 of this video for location of the hole where dip-stick goes) (6) pull out the dip-stick and now check the fluid level on the end of dip-stick - it should be at or near the high 'mark'. (7) +/- transmission fluid if needed.

What model year of vehicle you have and how many miles on it? do you know when transmission fluid changed last time? without knowing answers to these Qs, all I can say is that transmission fluid replacement is preventive maintenance and part of regular scheduled maintenance with the goal of preventing the transmission from failing. If your vehicle has developed transmission problems then a new fluid will likely not help and may actually make the situation worse. So be careful changing it now. At least talk to transmission shop before changing fluid. If your car needs a transmission rebuild, which is relatively expensive, consider how old your vehicle is,do you want to hold on to it or replace it. Used car market is still strong so you may be able to sell / trade in to a dealer and get something newer.

@FlyBeee well I bought it yesterday lol but it's the same as yours but it's an 03. The guy sold it to me for only 1.5k cause of the trans slipping he thinks it needs to be compteley replaced but I was suspecting that it's just cause of the trans fluid, alot of people don't know you need to change it. It has 201k kilometers (sorry I don't know the conversion to miles I'm european ☹️) but he said he put 20k on it while it was slipping. I haven't had time to check it out, I only have time on Monday as it's my only day off this week. I can have the trans rebuilt by my friend who is a mechanic he won't charge me for labour just parts that's why I bought it otherwise it would have been way too much of an expensive risk.

@@devakadex9588 The 2003 Accord is a beautiful vehicle however it is from years when almost all Honda vehicles had transmission issues, at least in the US. If you get a chance, please see CarComplaintsDOTcom just replace the word DOT with actual ' . ' and see history of reported issues with this vehicle. The European model may be different and not have this issues. The benefit of knowing about possible issues is that you know what to be prepared for and are not caught by surprise. At 200K kilometers (or 120K miles) the vehicle may have issue with pressure switches. Lookup the term and their location. Most of the time these are easy accessible if you remove the driver side wheel. Cost about $30 per switch and you may want to replace the pressure switch of the gear that has issues. May be that helps. Otherwise a rebuild can at least get your vehicle in good shape. Just change the air filters, brake oil, power steering oil and you should be good to go.

Anyone know why I hear a knock and feel a slight shift when I put my 04 Accord in reverse and then press the brake. I feel the shift and hear the knock when pressing the brake to bring the vehicle to a stop. I’m thinking mounts or bushings are bad. Anyone experience this?
@FlyBeee
@FlyBeee 6 жыл бұрын
My accord had similar sounds when its engine mounts needed replacement, it also had higher vibration. The shifting is transmission related and if it shifts rough then you can change the transmission fluid once to see if it helps. I have noticed that about 20K miles after transmission fluid change on a honda the shifting starts to become rough and heavy, but it smoothes out with fluid change. If the transmission fluid on your car hasn't been changed then space out the fluid change intervals to be sure the new fluid mixes with old one.

Was your fluid overfilled? The manual says 3.1qt should drain.
@FlyBeee
@FlyBeee 7 жыл бұрын
Mine was filled correctly before and after the drain & fill. I think the amount of fluid that drains out depends partly on the angle at which the car sits on the ground. In my case the car was in the driveway with the front on a reclining down therefore more fluid drained out. If you have the car on jack-stands or ramps where the front of the car is lifted up then less fluid would drain. The Trans Fluid dip stick has a high-low range and anything in between is acceptable. The imp thing is to replace the dirty fluid, so as long as you are doing that you are golden!

The transmission fluid level in the car has to be between high and low range of dip stick which means it doesn't have to be exact. Drain pan has quantity marking on its side. When the old transmission fluid fills the drain pan, review how much came out of vehicle and then refill the same quantity. The markings / measurement on the new transmission fluid bottle is an easy guide guide. This is really really as simple as it looks! That's a really good discussion point! Typically I tighten the drain bolt after I've filled the fluid and am satisfied with the fluid level, just in case I over-fill and have to drain out the excess. However, if there is a chance that one might forget to tighten the drain bolt then definitely do this before filling the fluid - because it is very risky if the drain bolt is not tightened. Whether the final tightening is done before or after the fluid is filled the imp is to get it done. Thanks so much for your feedback and for highlighting this point.

I've heard that too and it makes sense that if transmission fluid has never been changed and car has 150K+ miles then fluid inside is probably a sludge by now and is keeping the transmission working even though it is going to fail eventually, so If you replace the entire old fluid with brand new fluid , the detergent qualities in new fluid would be shock to the system and will make it fail quickly. ... If you are relatively new owner of the car and don't have maintenance history then a CarFax report these days provides maintenance history. Also consider how many miles are on the odometer. If you have absolutely no history and car has less than 150K miles and you want to maintain the Transmission in the good chance that it has been maintained in the past then you can start out by doing one drain and fill only. Total fluid replacement takes 3 drain and fills therefore replacing one-third fluid would make the remaining fluid quality a little better and won't be as much shock to the system as replacing the entire fluid at once. Then space out the next drain and fill of transmission by waiting a few thousand miles to let the car get used to better qualify of fluid. I did this with two of my Honda vehicles that I bought used and had no issues with this approach and their transmissions worked well without issues. However please proceed with what you feel more comfortable with.

Use the dealer specific transmission fluid. It helps soften the seals and repair some components. I just did a change at 167k with Honda fluid on my 03 civic with advice from a Honda focused mechanic that said to use dealer specific fluids at high milage and 8k miles later no issues have come out of it. And when the original fluid came out it was black, so I presume that would be a good example for your scenario. Also about 1:3/1:4 lucas fluid to transmission fluid helps it as well according to my grandfather with 40+ years of mechanic experience who swears by the stuff now. I'm putting lucas in now as my levels were a little low, so I will update if you would like in the future.

Vehicle runs awesome after fluid change, no problem at all! When you gt a chance please review the narrative/text I have in description of video. The ATF fluid change/replacement interval on this accord is 30K miles. Old fluid makes the vehicle sluggish so I do one drain-and-fill of transmission fluid every 10K miles which makes sure the vehicle has new(er) fluid all the time and it runs amazing! If your Accord has not had any transmission fluid change in a while then be careful to introduce new fluid. I hope this helps. Best wishes

Start with the parts dept of your honda dealer. Call around to get the best desl. MSRP on fluid is $8.2 per bottle. Parts dept of most honda dealers offer lower price (typically 20% off) if you buy a case (12 bottles) which is convenient if you are going to do a 3x3 fluid change. Final price ends up about $6.5 though i have bought for as low as $5.50 a bottle. Many honda dealers also sell parts on ebay. Just he sure to verify that you are buying from honda dealer and genuine Honda fluid.

I don't get it.... You took out 4 quarts and said will 3.75 quarts then top it off. However, you only dumped in 3.5 quarts and didn't say how much you topped off. I actually took a quart of trans fluid in a breaker and heated it up to 180 degrees and it didn't expand by much. The easiest way is to just weigh your fluid that comes out and put the same weight off fluid back in. Plus, if the trans is cold when you do a drain and fill, just put back whatever you drained
@Esuper1

The easiest way is to come close but short of what you took out, bring the car up to temperature and add as needed using the provided dipstick. No need to turn this into a project.

You have a good eye to catch the difference in fluid quantity! I am glad you asked. When we are short on time, the easiest is to refill the vehicle with same amount of transmission fluid that came out of the vehicle. I have done this myself a few times in several vehicles. However, the risk in this approach is that if the transmission was over-filled the last time fluid change was done then using the same quantity of fluid with over-fill it again. Therefore, when we have more time available then better option is to refill the transmission with little less than it's refill-capacity, then warm the car up and top-off the fluid to its full capacity. In the video the transmission was likely over-filled (4qts). Refill capacity is 3.75 quarts, and I filled it to 3.5 quarts and then topped up up later. Good question!

Automatic Transmission are expensive and the reason to take care of them. If you are in a situation that you have to buy, a new one runs about $4K +/- Other option is to get a used one, or have yours rebuilt which would run you about $1K.

So so video but not good because of many mistakes. There is some misinformation on the Honda recommendation for ATF change, the 30K internal is a myth. Honda specified that the ATF fluid change at 120K miles or 6 years for first time and 90K miles or 5 years after the first ATF change for this 7th Gen Accord V6. I checked my ATF fluid when my Accord was 6 years old and it looks a bit dark, even if the ATF works fine, so I changed it at 45K miles. I changed it again at 85K miles when the cars reach 11 years old. In both cases, I only need to add back 3 Qts each time and I checked the fluid level after starting the car and shift through all the gears to warm up the fluid and a month later, the fluid level is fine. And yes, he did not show that you need to wipe that drain plug clean of the dark gray metal debris collected at the bottom of the AT drain pan and tighten it back BEFORE pouring in the fluid. Otherwise, you could drain the new fluid down the floor as the drain pan had been removed. Also, he should check the drain bolt crush washer to see if it is deformed and replace it to prevent leak. Last but not least, he should invest in a $3 funnel with long neck that reach the fill plug, rather than using the dip stick as the fill hole. The dipstick hole is small, there is a good chance some of that expensive Honda ATF ended up on the floor rather than the ATF case. I'd say buy 4 Qts. for the job, just in case you miss the dipstick hole and spill it but also you can always use one extra Qt. for filling it when it is low.

Thank you for the very helpful details. There is more one way to do most things in life and what I show is one of the many ways available - with emphasis on using simple tools and to keep cost low; it is up to the viewer to decide method they like. The process I show works fine w/o any fluid leaks and while it is good to replace washer it is not a requirement especially when doing 3 drain in fills in a short span of days. How often should we replace transmission fluid should not be entirely based on manufacturer's recommendations because many have intentionally stretched maintenance internals to make the cost of ownership look artificially low. Honda makes wonderful vehicles with Honda made engines and transmissions. Engines have turned out well but transmission have been Honda (and Acura's) nemesis for years and the reason for many class-action lawsuits some of which are ongoing. Too many model years have transmission failures and owners left on their own to pay for repairs. See CarComplaintsDOTcom as reference. The best and cheapest hedge against a failed transmission is to replace transmission fluid often before it is due. 30K interval is what Honda's own Mater Techs say is needed for this v6 vehicle. Transmission holds 11 quarts of fluid and a simple drain & fill replaces up to 4 qts only. Whether we replace entire fluid (11 qts) at 30K miles or do one-drain & fill earlier, a $35 fluid change at home beats risking a $4K transmission failure. Mine is just one perspective based on personal experience of owning many Honda and Acura vehicles over the years. Everyone is free to proceed as they decide.

@FlyBeee

On this Accord the transmission holds about 7 - 8 quarts of fluid depending on whether the engine is 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder. One drain & fill removes about 3.75 quarts of fluid and the remaining stays in torque converter. Also, the detergent properties of new fluid are harsh on transmission. Therefore few hundred miles after new fluid from first drain & fill has blended into existing fluid, do a second drain & fill, and wait additional few hundred miles to do the third drain & fill. I hope this helps. Keep in mind that if instead of 'drain & fill' you opt for Transmission fluid 'Flush', which is a method Not recommended by Honda, the flush will remove all the fluid from transmission. But it will also likely damage the Honda transmission. Drain & fill is the safest method to change transmission fluid if it has been regularly changed on schedule. I hope this helps.
@MrVARhythm
@MrVARhythm 2 жыл бұрын
Additional note: A flush will not damage a transmission unless you are severely overdue on a fluid change. If the fluid is pink, a flush is fine. If the fluid is brown or black, do a change, not a flush.

The transmission fluid change method shown in this video is for a DIY vehicle owner who usually has basic tools and a few mins on the weekend to maintain their vehicle in their drive way on a low cost. This video is not for an auto mechanic with a large set of professional tools, tool extensions, lifts and other devices and who does this work for a living. Both methods work just fine. Simply draining and adding new is perfectly fine, and the filters on the Accords can't be replaced. You think your car will be upset about having "not perfectly clean fluid"? Having a service center completely power flush a system that hasn't been changed in a long time can cause serious issues, no problem with simply draining and adding new though.
@FlyBeee
@FlyBeee 4 жыл бұрын
What you recommend is it specific for Honda vehicles or in general all vehicles? In owners' manual of Accord the transmission fluid filter is not a maintenance item and drain & fill of fluid is the method Honda recommends. It is understood that new fluid will mix with the dirty fluid that stayed in the transmission / torque converter.
