This guy doesn’t know what he’s doing, not trying to be rude. Honda specifically asks for this procedure; 1.) Drain fluid 2.) put 3 quarts in it and get the transmission hot by letting the car idle and shifting through the gears for 2 seconds each, allll the gears, not just to drive like this dude does. Do this until the transmission gets to operating temperature, helps to have a scanner or just wait till the engine is at operating temp and then 15 min or so to make sure the trans is hot 3.) Put in park and then go through the gears one more time for two seconds each gear. 4.) Put the car back into park and turn the car off. 5.) within 30 seconds check the dipstick level it will be reading correctly. You have to do this with the car off. That’s the correct way to do it. Just trying to help not trying to be rude. Have a good one yall.

Hey guys, the Honda V6 does have an external tranny filter. It's located on top of the transmission just below the battery case. Most people including most Honda technicians and Honda customer support don't know it even exists because Honda doesn't say anything about it in their service manual. I did change mine for me to be happy, and that filter looked grayish and dirty bcuz of the metal shavings and stuff. Although I will tell you now it's a pain in the........especially if you have not done it before, but well worth it. I wonder why Honda didn't say anything about it and have it changed at the most every 100k. If you need more info, let me know.

+Jasmine Goeders Hi Jasmine, I meant to say the air filter box. It's right underneath the air filter box on top of the transmission , you can't miss it. If you remove the air filter box, you will then have access to it. There will be 3 long bolts and one banjo bolt holding the case. let me know if you find it. Remember that it's the v6 model.

I have a similar year, probably you need a valve adjustment. When people neglect a valve adjustment certain valves get too tight and you will burn them. Ironically it is common for people engines to get louder after a valve adjustment. It's better to have loud loose valves then tight valves because you will burn them. Check to see if you got a valve adjustment on your previous maintenance schedule, I'm guessing you did not.

Where did you get your funnel? It doesn't look like it would fit into the tiny dip stick hole. I have a 07 accord V6. I have trouble finding a funnel with a small enough tip that goes into the dip stick hole. I ended up using the cap of a Lucas transmission conditioner bottle, they have a small tip. Then put a funnel over it and slowwwwly pour in through. I made a mess and took forever to pour 3 bottles because the tip was too small.

@jasonlindie537 жыл бұрын
I did the drain and refill x3, but noticed some fluid stain around the drivers idea axle and on the bottom of the transmission toward the exhaust pipe. Could this be because I overfilled it. I don't know what the hell I was thinking .. been on top of the oil changes but didn't think of the transmission .. dumb dumb .. well my car's been running fine, shifting fine etc .. but I'm up to 109k miles right now .. never replaced it .. some say don't touch because the transmission will fail but if I don't replace it, isn't the transmission just going to deteriorate further and further from here on out since it has older fluid ? .. I was going to drain and refill it once .. then keep doing it for every oil change for a few oil changes(every 3 months) so as to not shock/ disturb the transmission too much with a full 9+ qt drain and refill at once .. should I do that or just leave it alone

+unebonnevie 2.5 quarts is what Honda claims. I think they want you to be around the low mark so you can get to level ground and warm up and then top off more exactly. Going 3 or 3.1 right away could end up a touch over.
@Spudz769 жыл бұрын
...also each draining could vary in volume depending on how level it's jacked/ramped. You'd get more out if you tilted the drain side lower (jack up the driver side). But not a ton more, within the 0.6qt that 2.5 provides.
@NutzAboutBolts9 жыл бұрын

Aren't you suppose to check it while the car is off ?
@NutzAboutBolts9 жыл бұрын

@Spudz769 жыл бұрын
+koz3 Some idiots swear it has to be running but that is only for other transmissions that will let the torque converter and valve body drain back out if the pump isn't running (which means the engine has to be at least idling). Honda transmissions don't drainback like that, at least if they do it's +-1oz or whatever it's not worth reaching down there with it running - the dipstick OK range is like 4-8oz. Some transmissions don't even pump when running in Park or Neutral and those should be checked with it idling, in drive, on parking brake. Some don't pump in Park but do in Neutral (like older Mopars) so those can be checked running in Neutral (but not Park!). So to simplify most "pro mechanics" will just say every trans needs to be checked running, and some (older) cars need to be also in Neutral or Drive. Very untrue on Hondas. As long as it's warm (normal driving temp) and absolutely level and you recently shut it down, the trans will show the same level as if it were running in gear and all that jazz, and you'll be safe from the fans/belts/etc.
