Welcome to Garage Denali! In this video, I walk through the process on how to change the manual transmission fluid on the 8th generation Honda Accord with the 2.4l 4 cylinder engine equipped with the 5 speed manual transmission. This video may also apply to other Honda/Acura vehicles with the 2.4l 4 cylinder engine with the 5 speed manual transmission.

I just changed the trans fluid on my 05 Accord. 183000 miles. First time. Lol. Never an issue with the trans, plus it’s the original clutch. The fluid was not as bad as I thought. It didn’t look any different than what engine oil looks like after 4000 miles. There is a fill port on top of the trans, just to the rear of the air cleaner box. Used that . Much easier. 2 quarts. Used the same crush washers. All good. Good video. Thanks.

Always make sure you can get the fill plug out before you you take the drain plug out. Otherwise you will have an Empty trans and No way to fill it. It can happen.

Excellent video. I just changed my MTF as well in my 2003 Honda Accord. The transmission must have been changed after 03 as the fill plug is not located where yours is. At least with the 2003 4 cyl iVtec the fill bolt is directly above the front axle and in order to reach it the battery will need to be removed (like you did with yours), and the entire air intake body, which is a good reminder to change out that engine in take filter while one is at it. I would recommend measuring the amount that drains out as well, just to be certain. I drained out exactly 2.56QT (82 oz). *The fill plug requires a 17mm Socket. Torque specs are 33 lb-ft for the fill plug and 29 lb-ft for the drain plug on the tranny.*

@@thronewalker1153 Perfect, you will do well. These 03 Accords are excellent, that is if they are 5 spd. The automatic is known to have lots of issues though as those are CVT's. I forgot to mention, mine is a 2003 Honda Accord Ex.

hey what fluid did you end up using? was reading forums from around 2010 but wanna see what someone is using now. I heard the honda mtf is not the same formula as it used to be and is not good to use anymore. please and thanks

@@Dontbmaddcuzubadd I purchased several quarts of the Honda Genuine HG Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF). It’s a gray bottle with green label. The UPC code is 08798-9031. I have no clue about previous versions, though, honestly we don’t have any choice, do we? Sadly, But I can say that my 03 Accord EX has 198K miles and it is as smooth as if it only had 50K miles on it. The MTF seems thicker than the ATF that I use for my MDX. Changing the fluid is very easy, I cannot believe I used to pay someone to do it. May as well change the oil too while already down there.

@@thepowerofyourvoicepodcastat first I was going to go with the amsoil synchromesh, but ive saw that its bad for seals. So I'm thinking on going with the gm synchromesh. based off my research that's the best to use for smooth shifting and longevity of the trans. But as I said before I couldn't find anything recent on that so I was wondering what you had used. Got my car about a year ago and dunno if/when it's been changed. Ik it's a really easy job just wanna use the best possible parts I can. Thanks for responding, honda gang lol🤙

For better shifting you could go with ac Delco or Pennzoil syncromesh,specially if 3rd gear or other gears pop out.

A much simpler way is to get one of the hand pumps at Harbor Freight $6.00 and shove the skinny tube down the filler hole and pump out as much of the oil you can and replace the exact amount you pumped out and you're done. You are replacing most of the fluid and that is more than most people will ever do.

Way easier to drain, then use a hand pump and fill through the check hole until it starts weeping out then your done. Of course make it level with your jack as well.

Those Scissor jacks are not sturdy at all. They fall over with just a slight bump of the car. Also the tire may help protect you but you should always use jack stands. I think you did a great job besides that. Just be safe when under a car.

@kingmonkey88 3 жыл бұрын
Too much effort in removing the wheel and battery. Just undo the bolts from underneath. Then pass a long tube into the fill hole from the engine bay to fill. I would never go under a car held up using the scissor jack.

If Honda manual transmission is not available in shop can I put 75w80 grade oil in honda city diesel any problem or not it is necessary to put honda manual transmission oil

It’s always available. I’d highly recommend buying it off eBay ad many dealerships sell it there at bulk discounts. Usually about 30% less than what you’d pay going to a dealership. I’d recommend always keeping an extra 2-3 quarts just on hand.

Does it matter the miles on the car to change the fluid
@garagedenali
@garagedenali 4 жыл бұрын
It is good practice to change the fluid at normal intervals. Every 60,000 miles is good and it is easy to do. There isn't really any chance of messing anything up since a manual transmission is a lot simpler than an automatic

What year is the car, btw? I have a 2005 2.4l dx, and from reading the manual it seems that there is only (i) a filler bolt, and (ii) a drain bolt, and that the filler bolt is on the side of transmission pan / housing, and I add the 2qts from there and also use that as the fluid check bolt, so that when the fluid starts to overflow (on filling it) I know that the tranny is full. An archaic way of doing things, it seems to me, but this is what I have. In your case, you have 3 bolts - filler, check, and drain, and I like the fact that the filler bolt opening is right-side up so that you don't have to jimmy up some 3/8" or 1/4" tube to fit in the side-facing filler bolt hole. I'll check on this tomorrow morning, and see where I am there. Great video, and very much appreciate you (and others) who post these very helpful demos.

Yours is probably like mine. Where his filler bolt was mine has a cable that goes there and the filler bolt is in the back directly above the CV Axle on top of the transmission block, but the air intake has to be removed in order to get it. I have a 03 Accord 4 cyl.

The manual says how many quarts to put it so why you need to remove the check fluid level bolt if you put the required amount of fluid? Don’t make sense.
@francobugtong1466
@francobugtong1466 4 жыл бұрын
Becauce if you drain the fluid. You never really drain 100% of it. Sometimes you only drain 50 or 70% of the fluid. And we never know how much the factory drained when they test it out so it is better to check than to not enough fluid or overflow it.
@jogmas12
@jogmas12 4 жыл бұрын
franco bugtong when you drain either the engine oil or the manual transmission fluid the drain plug on either one provides the provision to to completely drain 100% of it.
