Good video...one tip on the trans fluid. I always put my old trans fluid in a pitcher and measure how much came out and then just add the same amount of new fluid back in. Simple and no guess work.

This works -- if the fill level was correct before you changed it out. My transmission fluid was overfilled by the factory. Not much, but I put less in than I took out to try to get it right at the full mark.

Yo next time you do a Oil Change again on the Honda Accord. To avoid any mess use a plastic tag plate and insert underneath the oil filter and than make sure you have oil drain bucket underneath to catch the old oil. Try it. A trick to avoid a messy lower control arm and lower splash shield 👍💯

LOL I guess I've waited a bit too long to do this one. MY car is a 2009 Accord EX-L coupe with 145,000 miles on it! Mostly Highway miles, granted, but tranny still shifts great. It IS a HONDA, remember!! These vehicles will go 200K miles on the highway with no major repairs. I found a Castrol substitute for the brand name Honda fluid if anyone is interested. It says it can be used to replace Honda ATF-Z1 or Honda DW-1 fluid as long as its not a CVT transmission, which mine is not. Those didnt come until about 5 or so years later. It is called Castrol Transmax Import Multi-Vehicle ATF. It is a full synthetic fluid. Existing fluid is still a bright pink so I guess I'm not real worried about it. To be safe though, I'm only going to replace it one quart at a time and see how it performs along the way. GREAT VIDEO!

Great walkthrough in the video. As an owner of the 2016 V6 Accord, I do find the transmission can be a bit abrupt when down shifting and lot of online forums say this is the case. Did you notice a difference in shifting after you replaced the fluid? And how often you recommend the transmission fluid be replaced?

I looked for, but could never find, the fill location. There were 3 bolts of about the same size but the front and rear ones were marked "10" or maybe "D1" the middle bolt head was marked "FL". I removed the FL bolt and tried to put fluid in it and it wouldn't accept any and ran out on the floor. I don't know what that bolt is for and I hope I didn't screw anything up. Edit: I finally found the fill bolt, it is under two hoses and 6-10 inches toward the passenger side than I had been looking.

Hi! I have a 2014 accord v6 sedan at 31k. I just checked my tranny fluid, it’s not as dark as yours, so I think I’ll wait till 40k. So I tried to fit under the car without jacking it up, I was able to get my 3/8 wrench into the nut and still have enough room to turn it. I then tried to fit my 15 inch long torque wrench, but it had to be face the front of the car to be able to turn it. I bought a 5 inch tall oil drain pan, which will fit underneath and still be able to loose the nut with hand. I think it’ll be easier if I just buy a jack.....I already have 2 stands, but I don’t know.
@BulletsGarage3 жыл бұрын
Yea to drain it it's easier with tht car up
@spiculum18363 жыл бұрын
You need 3 times drain and fills to change out 83% of old fluid. Each drain & fill changes out only 3.3 quarts. There is 7.4 quarts total in the transmission - rest in torque converter. Do 2nd and 3rd D/F after driving it for 10 miles between changes. Also, change the crush washer for both oil and transmission plugs. The washers can be crush a few times before it won't crush no more and not seal right.

How often are folks changing their transmission fluid in their 9th Gen Accords with 6 speed Automatic transmissions? I find my transmission shifts rough at 15K miles, and when I change it (the 3-3.5 quart drain and fill), it smooths out. I'm doing the changes at every other oil change. Is that overkill?

Hi, I am from India. My 05 Accord V6 automatic refused to move in Drive when lights changed to green. It did after 15 min of cooling. Took it to shop and they flushed and refilled. It seems to be holding out. Do you think it will happen again? Shop guy says nothing wrong with transmission. The drain/flush with 3.3 qts is more of a 'refresh' of the trans fluid. Honda says to complete a full system drain/flush at 90k.
@turbogt29112 жыл бұрын
The owner's manual describes the full procedure: three, yes THREE drain-and-fills with 'breif periods of driving between'. You will never, ever drain an automatic transmission's complete fluid capacity in a single drain. Ever. The main valve body and torque converter will together retain well over half of the automatic transmission's fluid capacity. Honda explicitly forbids flushing the tranny and instead, recommends the 3x3 drain-and-fill; and even then, you've only replaced approximately 82% of the old fluid. Drain-and-filling transmission fluid only one time CAN be considered good preventative maintenance, given the interval is frequent and regular. Good video. Don't reuse crush washers.
