getting the spring into the housing took every last ounce of morale I had, however, I did discover a easier way than demonstrated. Take the outer hook of the spring and make one loop small enough to fit in the housing, pinch just that single loop with your pliers and wrap some masking tape or electrical tape around that loop to hold it, not around the whole outside of the loop, just to bind those two coils together in the pack and keep it from unwinding in your hand. Now take the rest of the spring and start hand coiling it inside the loop you made, this part is much easier than trying to coil the spring by holding the inner most hook, holding the tension with your hand the whole time. once you drop the coil into the housing you can slit the tape and just leave it in there.

Good suggestion. Why don't you make a video showing this procedure? It will help a lot of people since this is a common repair that must be done to these starters.

What do you think would be the issue if one out of the 3 little tabs that come out to catch to turn the motor is not coming out. Only two are catching but it still works. I’d like to fix it right however

Great video. Good instructions. One question (not sure if you read all these) are the 3 bolts for the case and the 4 internal ones the same thread pattern?

Yes. They are metric. 6mm or M6.

You earned a subscriber bud im currently restoring a Honda 84 110 would a 90 pullstarter fit old girl? Another question my bike has power but bogs on acceleration is that a carb adjustment carbs new
@SoCalBruce8 жыл бұрын
The 90 pull starter won't work unless you can find a spacer to go between the starter and the timing case. The spacer is about 1/4" thick. But I have only seen one and I sold it on ebay. I don't really know abut your problem with bogging down. Perhaps you could try advancing the spark a little. It might help.

Ive tried everything to rewind the spring and get it hack into the case. Any tips my hands cant take much more punishment
@SoCalBruce4 жыл бұрын
I agree. This method can be hard on the hands. Since I made this video, I found a better way to wind the spring. I should make a new video. I drive two headless nails into a piece of wood and left them sticking out about 1/4". The last time I used a short scrap 2x4 and held it in my vice. I got another stick of wood, a 1 x 2, and drove another headless nail into it. I then put the spring onto the 2x4 in the vice and started winding it with the 1x2 stick. When I got it small enough I grabbed the with the tip of a needle nose pliers and inserted it into the starter case. Much easier to do and easier on the hands. I should update this video to show this method.

what could be wrong when u can push start my 3 Wheeler 1980 Honda but it won't start with a pull rope
@SoCalBruce9 жыл бұрын
I am a little unclear by what you mean by "won't start with a pull rope". Are you towing it with another vehicle with a "pull rope" or are you referring using the recoil starter? If you are using the recoil starter, you should feel a lot of drag if the starter engages with the the starter cage and turns the engine. If the starter pulls real easy, then it is not turning the engine over and you need to pull the starter off and see what is wrong with it. There are only three bolts holding the starter on.

How did you wind the spring. Ive been trying for days. plz help
@SoCalBruce Жыл бұрын
I need a camera person. I wound the spring slightly out of view of the camera. But since I made the video, I found a better way to wind the spring. I need to update this video. You can find other videos on youtube. The better method involved driving two headless nails about 1/2 inch apart into a piece of wood. Then with the nail sticking out of another piece of wood, wind the spring. Now grab the spring with the tip of a needle nose pliers to keep it from unwinding and insert it into the case. I hope this description makes sense.

@SoCal Bruce how could you change or clean a carborater on a ATC 70?

+Romeo Perez It's very similar to the ATC 110 carburetor, just smaller. In fact I think that the bowl is the same. Here is a video of the ATC 110 Carburetor. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4XGd5mjmpt3Y6c

I have a honda us90, its older than the hills but the rope finally broke, do you think it would be simalar to the 110?
@SoCalBruce6 жыл бұрын
Yes. Same thing. If you are careful, you can change the rope without removing the pulley that it's wrapped around, and then you won't have have the spring flying out.
