@@lavaughnrannow879 A bike being able to do 185 doesn't mean that it has to be ridden that way, it's more about potential. At any rate, the CB1100 won't do anything near 185. It's tuned for low and mid range torque rather than high power output. It's a sweet engine.

Mine is a 2016 CB1100 SA-E and I've done loads of mods to make it look like a CB750 which I'll be posting when we can get out again and film!! Beautiful machine. I see retro honda all over it. The dual horn, forks, signal lights. All over, one of the bikes I own is an 83 magna v45 and this is so reminiscent of it. Right down to the shape of the instrument panel.

My brother bought a 1976 Honda CB750 in 1978. He was the second owner. It was almost new when he bought it with only 3000 miles on it. The original owner bought it from McBride Cycle on Dundas Street in Toronto. The shop closed back in 2007 and the original building was demolished. The location is now a condominium building. My brother rode the bike until 1990. The bike then sat in his garage for 15 years. In 2005, he no longer wanted it and sold it to me. I did not have to do that much to it to get it back on the road. When I got it had 39,000 miles. The biggest job was taking the carburetors apart and cleaning them out. Since it is such a classic bike you can still get just about all of the parts for it. The original 4 into 4 exhaust was rusted out so I bought a new set from Classic Motorcycles in the Netherlands from their website and had them shipped to my home. You can also get them in the US from Bike Bandit in California or at Dealer Cost Parts in Michigan. They are much more expensive today but back in 2005, I paid just over $1000 Canadian for them. I also replaced the seat and the sprockets and chain. New tires, plugs and points. It is still the original paint Candy Atares Red. I have been riding it ever since. It now has 61,000 miles. When I am on the road or stopped to get gas, I have lost count to how many old riders have stopped to chat with me about their memories of this bike. From the literature I read online, Honda remade the CB750 as a CB1100 retro in 2010 but from 2010 to 2012 it was only available in Japan, Australia and New Zealand. In 2013 the CB1100 retro was also available in Canada, the US, UK and in Europe. I was not aware that it was also available in South Africa. In 2014 in went for a 5 speed to a six speed. In 2017 they changed the gas tank style to a more rounded look. I like the original better. They also went to a 4 into 2 exhaust as standard. Starting in 2014 the 4 into 2 exhaust was available on some models which also had ABS and a slightly larger tank but, starting in 2017 it was not no longer available in Canada but still available in the US and Europe. Honda continues to make the retro CB1100 and here is the 2020 model kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJXNo3mrmL-jd9E I also own a 2014 CB1100 which I basically bought new in 2017 with only 1,120 km on it and am the second owner. They guy 's wife I bought it from didn't want him riding bikes. He should have figured that out before he got married! It now has 22,000 km and yes I also love this bike. I cannot say which one I like better. Riding a 1976 CB750 with real carburetors and no computers on it is still an amazing experience that perhaps the younger riders may not appreciate but for us older guys it is pure joy. My Honda CB750 is now 44 year old! As you have pointed out, the CB1100 also has a very substantial and sturdy build quality but am not sure if someone will be riding it after 44 years! I say “someone” because I will probably be dead in 44 years!

The difference between the CB1100 and the other bikes mentioned like the Kawi and the Ducati for example is that those bikes are what I would call "retro-styled". The underpinnings of those motorcycles are basically just like a number of other motorcycles those manufacturers already produce. The CB1100 on the other hand was produced from the ground up for guys who are looking for more of an authentic retro experience. The items in the design that are key to his are the air-cooled engine (when these bikes were first released back in 2010, this represented Honda's first new air-cooled engine in over 20 years), larger 18" wheels fitted with skinnier tires, a dual cradle steel frame with twin rear shocks in the back. This bike was never intended to be about performance, the engine was tuned for ample torque throughout the range for a wide, flat powerband. There's really nothing else like it out there to be found. The engineering that went into the engine alone was quite impressive as it was designed to meet emission standards that had yet to be passed at the time of it's release. Triumph hasn't even offered an air-cooled engine in their Bonnies for some time now. The cost of the engineering involved likely would have buried them (and the water-cooled approach has served them well, although they could stand to drop the cheesy fake cooling fins on their engines). In the end, Honda was likely the only manufacturer capable of creating a bike such as this in this day and age and they did so to honor their own heritage. I realize that for many these bikes just don't offer the kind of performance that they are looking for. On the other hand, it's also likely that the motorcycles those people prefer are just leaving a lot of power in the garage when being ridden on the street. For someone like me wanting a classic air-cooled retro setup like that offered by the CB1100, it just doesn't get any better. It's good to have choices and I'm grateful that Honda offered this model up for sale to the few of us who wanted such a bike outside of Japan (where it was a class leader in sales it's very first year).

For me, the biggest thing about this machine, is the fit and finish. It will look good for a long time. The excessive use of easily damaged plastic that ages and discolors in many bikes, is something to consider.

Honda has speed limited them to roughly 112mph (local laws in Japan) and for some reason ALL CB1100's have that limiter on them. Some shops can get into the ECU and remove it (and remap it if you so wish). Uncorked it will do something on the order of 130mph. It's a proper looking standard motorcycle that is very easy to ride, easy to take care of - it's akin to a very good family sedan. And I own a 2013 and a 2014! Love 'em. Don't need two, didn't ask for two but in a fluke I ended up with two. :)

Do yourself a favor and move up to any modern bike .... will be much better than what your running now. ..I have a Harley Sportster, and a Yamaha Roadliner, both are great bikes. I recommend V twins.

The CB1100 is a 'proper' bike for grown ups. It's limited to 112mph FYI and you can do that in 3rd so it's plenty quick enough as it is. It's not pretending to be anything it isnt. Great bikes. I am biased tho cos I have one 👍

If I was shopping for a bike, it would be this, or a Triumph T120. I had a Kawasaki Z900, and a Z750, a long time ago. What most bikes lack these days is practicality, simplicity, a usable power band, and a big comfortable seat if you have a pillion passenger. The manufacturers generally offer a cruiser style, or some high-reving post-modernist exercise in ugliness. There aren't many choices if you like traditionalist concepts, but this Honda CB1100 is definitely one of them.

I own a cb1100 from 2015. The top speed is limited limited to 180 km/h from factory. I can achieve this speed on my bike just after selecting third gear. I do not doubt it will go faster as soon as this limit is electronically deactivated.

Buttery, silky smooth my ass. I guess my '17 CB1100EX was made in Detroit in 1969 on a Monday after the Lions lost, cause it ain't BUTTERY, SILKY SMOOTH. Other reviewers have said the same thing and I think they're all on mind-altering drugs. I had a 750 in 1977 and the handlebars buzzed like a coffee can full of hornets anywhere over 3000 RPM and so does/did my 1100. Luckily, in 2020, it only cost me about $150 to fix the issue and while my 1100 ain't buttery smooth, it's 97% improved over stock. I really want to ride these unicorn machines that Honda has provided for these reviewers.

That's what I read also, that its buzzy. And the valves need to be adjusted or at least checked every 7500 miles? Not sure about that. My 1984 Nighthawk S was silky smooth, however.

@@louislopez55 Yes, and I rode my friends' '14 CB1100 and it also was buzzy. In my case I fixed the problem by adding weight to the handlebar. The bike has many fine qualities including suspension and handling (and looks) and that's why I own it. It was a shame that Honda didn't fix the vibration issue up front. And yeah, I have ridden some Nighthawk S's and they were cool, cool bikes.

I owned a 1983 CB1100F (bought new) and it had 110 HP. It was a great bike but it was heavy. This version sounds like it has been de-tuned to a much lower horsepower.

Of the four bikes I own, including a FJR, if I were to take a coast to coast round trip in the USA, my 2011 CB1100 is the only one I have 100% confidence to make it with no mechanicals. I mean right now, as is, pack up and go.

I owned a 72 CB750 and a 74 CB550 and the 550 was a much better bike, Both bikes were smooth as glass with car like reliability, but the 550 handled much better with a shorter rake and more ground clearance and shorter stopping distance.. What a blast it was scraping the pegs through the corners and blowing the doors off the guys with bigger machines.I still remember the guy I raced in a 72 Z28 through a 180 degree entrance ramp when I was scraping my pegs and he was scraping his fenders on the cement barrier. too bad they don't make a smaller version for around 5 grand

The bike is pretty restricted to meet emissions from the factory. With a tune and a better breathing exhaust, it can make 90-100hp at the wheel depending on the dyno.

I was blessed to get a 14 cb1100 stranded new in 2017 with 3miles on the clock. Have around 6k on it now and I personally like the bike as much or more then any bike I have ever owned... and i have had a few! I had a 82 cb750 nighthawk as a young man in the 80s and I loved that bike. so the cb1100s was a dream come true for me. I wouldn't change a thing 🤔 sept get rid of the 112mph governor and that isn't even necessary... just bugs me they put one on the bike! The bike is fine bone stock for what it was made for IMHO you say that bike is a 2016 but it has the 2010 to 2013 dashboard, what's up with that???

It is hard to beat a UJM for all around motorcycling. Yes, if you are canyon-carving, the sport bikes are better. Or there are the Harley wannabees with the cruiser, but they went too far to be too Harley (if you want a Harley, BUY a Harley, not some wannabee). But for the around town riding, riding off on a short weekend trip, or a week on the road, and then back to around town again, the UJM worked very well. With a backrest and luggage rack, aesthetics are not that horrible, and let you can put your girl on the back for cruising around or day trips. You can strap a luggage bag on the rack, tie a small tent and a sleeping bag on, and head out for a week or two. Then when you get home, you are back to a regular bike. While the big touring like the Goldwing will eat your lunch touring, the 1500 and 1800 are boats around town. That Cadillac that is so comfortable on that 3000 mile trip because a land yacht between your legs for those around town jaunts. The problem it suffers from is that many just think they are not cool. Well there is looking cool, and then actually going somewhere. I've been thinking about an ST1300 or an FJR 1300, but maybe I'll see if any of these are around.

I can't believe this review, premiered April 2020 and you have a CB1100 2013 model being reviewed as a 2016 model? Which it is not! and speaking as if you had all just received this Honda for the first time, and never seen it before..? It is Honda's first retro CB1100A released in 2013. The bike has gone through two more model style changes since that time and the current CB1100 is called a CB1100EX, which has twin exhaust pipes, stainless steel spokes and a seamless fuel tank shaped style and it's power figures are 89bhp and the 2013 model was actually 86bhp, factory stated. There is another alternate model available called the CB1100RS, with a little difference in aesthetic styling. Your review is totally inaccurate and rubbish and poorly researched, I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't an April fools joke?! God knows why...??

Don't think so. 90PS in D is enough, would make no big difference in riding the CB. Smooth and relaxed and always pulling no matter in which gear you're in. A customer who buys this CB is surely not interested in many PS. Otherwise he would buy a "sportier" bike. The CB is good the way it is. Own a 2013 model. The best of all models. The original Retro-CB1100, not afterwards too much altered into whatever.

These bikes are beautiful and I do kinda want one, but my 1980 CB900C has more hp and about the same or less weight. How is this possible? It doesn't make sense to me that with 200 extra cc's and modern engine tech the new honda underperforms compared to a 40 year old model. Is there something I'm missing here?

EU Emission regulations kind of forced the manufacturers to go this way. That is also why, HP is not the "performance" mesure per se, but you have to add in the available torque distribution...

Yet....Honda has abandoned the CB EX bikes for the USA due to poor sales. I was a teenager when Honda first brought the CB to the USA. To this day it is my dream bike and now that I can afford one.....I can't get it. There are a few new 2017MY CB1000 EX at dealers in the US. Only color is red and MSRP of $12,999 USD. I imagine dealers will take $10,000 USD to get them out of the dealership. Bottom line....the Honda CB Retro is one bad ass machine. The new CBs are cookie cutter fugly.

@@rzu7120 Well, if you are looking specifically for an air-cooled retro, then I the answer is most definitely. But I now see the point you are making. The reality is these motorcycles aren't for most people and I do understand that. Whether or not someone considers the CB1100 to be a good value on the used market probably has more to do with what they are looking for in a motorcycle rather than just how low the prices drop. When Honda designed and developed the CB1100 their only intended market initially was Japan (where these motorcycles actually sold very well). For the few of us who spent years hoping that Honda would change their mind and decide to distribute this motorcycle beyond Japan and Australia it was a big deal when we were finally granted the opportunity to buy one of these motorcycles. For me it likely just doesn't get any better. The designer of the CB1100 has noted that Honda never intended for this motorcycle to be a value leader and their approach was actually very much the opposite. In my case, value in terms of pricing was never a factor in my purchase. Instead the value for a guy like me comes from the overall experience this motorcycle provides. Honda did a great job of executing the design brief that they set for themselves - providing an authentic retro experience with a few notable exceptions compared to the real vintage bikes: fuel-injection, far superior brakes, and an engine tuned with an emphasis on a wide, flat powerband beginning very low in the RPM range. While the designer of the CB1100 had played key roles in a number of Honda's highest performance bikes in the company's history, high performance was never a key goal for the CB1100. As I mentioned, I can understand why this kind of motorcycle might only appeal to a very small segment of buyers these days. But for the buyers that this motorcycle does appeal to, there is very little in the way of cross-shopping that is out there to be had. I'll own mine until my riding days are done and can't really give a motorcycle higher marks than that. For everyone else that rides, lets hope that there continues to be plenty of other choices out there going forward. I personally don't care whatever motorcycle someone else chooses to buy. After all, I got the motorcycle I wanted the most. I just hope that people keep buying motorcycles. Here in North America they haven't been selling very well overall for some time now.

Until you have a flat tire....... The EX has tube tires. Retro or not, tubeless is the way to go. Nail out, plug in and 5 minutes later you're rolling again. Nonetheless a beautiful bike.

What the hell happened to the header pipes??!! They're TERRIBLE!! My 1250 Bandit's pipes which are chrome double wall beauties, always cleaned up like new (from dirt and bugs), and NEVER tarnished like those!
