I discovered this channel a few days ago and complimented you guys with the fact that you don't ruin the engine sound with music. And now, seeing this vid, I can finally hear how my CB 1100 EX (same engine and exhaust) sounds from a distance. And while driving it, the deep sound it makes at 2000 rpm, keeps making me happy. I bought this exact model based on this review chaps! I ride it practically everyday. Absolutely love it. Thank you. 2500 miles on the clock now. Tried a few others before I parted with my cash….Speed Twin was nice - but I’m 5 11 - so it was physically too small. Z900rs was great - but a bit too snatchy and snarly, (and brought out too much of the hooligan in my riding) - but I loved the big 4 cylinder 70’s / 80’s super bike looks. It’s a beautifully put together, great looking piece of kit, and underrated by the journos - I suspect because it was marketed as a ‘cafe racer’ at the time - which it isn’t. It’s just a ‘proper’ motorcycle. It’s a shame you can’t them new (in the UK) any longer.

I have a 2013 CB1100, red gas tank, beautiful bike. It lacks the refinements of the later models (slightly smaller gas tank, only 5 speeds in the transmission, and no gear indicator or MPG indicator, and halogen lights rather than LED) but still a classic bike. These naked bikes are so easy to do maintenance on too! I can get to everything! And the Honda engines are so damn reliable.

I purchased a used 2014 CB1100 this past October. The 2014 model in the USA was all black with it being the first year with the 6 speed transmission. I had owned a CB750 in the late eighties and was looking for another when I found this bike at Savannah Harley Davidson. It redefines the word SMOOTH and with fuel injection pulls effortlessly from idle. I find it is very happy to be ridden from 2,000 to 3,000 RPM and delivers exceptional mileage at 50.7. The trip computer which is standard has two trip sets, plus it shows the average MPG per trip and the number of gallons consumed. It can also be switched from miles to kilometers and the gear position indicator is a fantastic addition. The only drawbacks I find are the turn signals are not self-canceling like my V-Max and the exhaust pipes exiting the engine discolor as they are not chrome. Sadly the 2022 edition is called "The Final Edition" and will be the last air-cooled 4 cylinder bike made. Emissions requirements cannot be met with an air-cooled engine's high and varying cylinder head temperature and additional internal clearances for expansion. One could not ask for a more proven engine design to provide a longer lasting trouble free motorcycle.

I Also have a used 2014 CB1100 14000 mi. The last 7000 mi. on tripA average is 43mpg. On tripB which I reset every tank I can avg. 50mpg on the freeway only going 55 to 60mph takes effort. Fighting a headwind or step grade I will see 35mpg. My drive is 133 mi. 2.8 to 3.2 gals.

The first bike I wished for when I was a boy was a Honda CB 750 four owned by a neighbor. I loved seeing that motorcycle drive past. He once gave me a ride on it. I think the EX is more pliable whereas the RS is more sharp in terms of handling. There aren’t many bikes that properly fit for +6ft people really tbh; something manufacturers should address as the top quartile is taller now than in the past, yet bikes are the same size

Greetings from Sydney, Australia....just subscribed & I'll be looking at that clothing too....looks good. We got the first of these retro CB1100's a few years back & they were typically overpriced & didn't sell well. They ran the 18" spoked wheels with narrower tyres & a 4 into 1 exhaust system. There was also the expectation of a faired version in typical racy colours like the old CB1100R of the 80's, that had been shown off as a possible variant but alas no. Now that would've sold like hotcakes here.... But Honda have been steadily changing & improving this model & even though I liked that first offering, I was waiting for these newer versions. But alas, the big 'H' here down under decided, "no more"....& all I get is a big fat, "dunno, probly not", from my local dealer. So a while ago in 2108, I purchased one of the last, (that we got), of the injected Yammy XJR1300's which were languishing in a warehouse somewhere & that's a pretty good thing too. We never got the absolute final 'cafe' version that you & Europe saw....notice how I seperated the UK from Europe just then. How trendy am I ?? :))) Anyway, loved the review & I noticed you went into things like rider height & ergo's etc. Well done. I'm a tad under 6' at 5'11" & it all made perfect sense to me, but even more info would be great, like for instance a mention that the CB has a centrestand. Silly things like that. I'm an oldie (about to turn 60), & I've been riding motorcycles since the age of 15 ish, & I appreciate a centrestand. We had em back in the day & they were great. Yeah, I know people would remove them for one reason or another but I never did....far too useful to just throw away....nuff said. Funnily enough, years ago, mates used to tell me, the Japanese can't do "retro"...only 4-cyl super sport bikes with a gazzillion horsepower.....silly lads. But they certainly have enough production history of they're own to draw inspiration from, the engineering is superb (usually), & the CB you reviewed here is testimony to that. Looking forward to more..... Regards/Cheers Nik👍

You don't make the bike look small, because it's not a small bike. It looks like you're a big bloke riding it, which is what it is. I like the styling. It's like the muscle bikes of the late eighties and nineties, or retro as they are calling it. It's possibly my preferred shape of bike. Although I like the new fandangled shape of the new CBs from Honda. (I never understood why some bike models got so 'tall', and with adventure styling for road-bikes. That era was weird. Might have messed with centre of gravity too.) I think the CB1100RS could have used some modern pipes though. I think that would help ease the style into the present. Those old style chrome flared pipes have got a just a little bit long-in-the-tooth. One thing that puzzles me is this bike you said has 88bhp, while the CB1000R had something like 140bhp. Odd that they get such variance overall. Also they get more bhp from the 1000cc CB1000R, than the bhp they get from this 1100. I just never really understood it.
@MrDarcy-OlMan3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comments bro! Really interesting. They got this bike right we think. The CB1000R has more horsepower than you need tbh and no doubt this 1100 will last forever

You got to be malicious to say anything bad about this bike! I say, it's the most beautiful/sensible bike of all times. I have three bikes already, a Kawasaki Voyager XII, a Triumph America LT and a BMW R9T Pure. I might add this one to make my collection complete.

Nice review and insights about the bike, really liked the way the riding was video graphed to show the bike fit. Would really love to hear more about the low revs, meaning does this bike be used for commutes, how does this bike compare to bonnie T120? is the engine butter smooth like the bonnie or feels sporty?
@MrDarcy-OlMan5 ай бұрын
It was a ling time ago that we did this video, so hard to remember. It is a brilliant bike and sadly no longer for sale new in the UK. Smooth with character, probably better than the T120.

6:58 I had to play that again because it completely caught me off guard, well played sir well played haha. As for the bike, pretty sweet, what I would do to it personally is get a bigger front wheel for it (18 inchs), get clip on handlebars, a dart piranha windshield and paint the tank a more inetersting color (Red, Blue, green, Yellow or Glossy Black) and it will be PERFECT.

I think Honda have done a neat job all round. No exposed plumbing or radiator on it either like Kawasaki's Z 900 RS, because this Honda is air/oil cooled. Why don't they make a 750 and 550 version of the EX? That's what they all did back in the day.
@MrDarcy-OlMan4 жыл бұрын
Yes it’s awesome. They’d do well to make some more retro styled bikes of smaller capacity for sure.

Stolen from another (American )video but a great bit of history on the CB1100 The man responsible for the CB1100, Mitsuyohsi Kohama, played major roles in making a number of impressive motorcycles centered around performance a reality at Honda. These included the CBR600F, VFR750F, CBR900RR, as well as the NR and the RC211V amongst others. The CB1100 was never intended to be about performance nor was it intended to be inexpensive. The price:performance ratio was never "a thing" for the designers and engineers who worked on this motorcycle. Instead it was designed to be a motorcycle that Kohama himself would want to own and ride. The CB1100 was never about "retro styling". Rather Kohama wanted the motorcycle to honor Honda's CB heritage while providing a particular riding experience. From the very beginning, Kohama's design brief for the CB1100 called for an air-cooled inline-4 engine. This was to be the central focus of the motorcycle. Other elements such as the double cradle steel frame, the twin rear shocks and the 18" wheels were all considered to be key components in this truly retro motorcycle. Engineers were told to prioritize producing a certain riding feel as a opposed to prioritizing performance. Thus they ended up with a very under-stressed inline-4 that provides ample torque down low with very linear power delivery throughout it's RPM range. None of this came cheap for Honda as the engine in the CB1100 represented their first air-cooled mill designed from the ground up in over twenty years. More than likely it will also be Honda's last as given future emissions requirements. Honda did have the foresight to design the CB1100's engine to meet far stricter emissions requirement than were in place at that point in time. The true market focus for the CB1100 was Japan where it immediately jumped to the lead sales position in it's class upon it's introduction in 2010. The truth is we were lucky get this motorcycle in the USA at all. It was never intended to be sold here in. Only after enough prodding from America, did Honda finally subside, bringing the bike over here in 2013. I took delivery of one of the very first CB1100's to reach the States and paid $9,999 for it out-the-door. I personally don't think that Honda ever had plans on selling many CB1100 here from the start. They did not bring that many of these machines over here to begin with and aside from providing the press with test units there was no marketing of the bike over here to speak of. By the time Honda released the CB1100RS in 2017 they surely knew it wouldn't be worth the effort to bring it over to the States given that it would fare even worse in the HP/Displacement and HP/$ measurement that most here are enamored with.

Your right about what you say, it was a tribute bike for the 400 four and 750 four and the bolder Honda, they eaven played around with the value timing to make it sound more old school, I have 2010 model that came out to Australia and I'm really impressed with how great it still runs and feels when you ride, like you say not really a beginner's bike, anyway really enjoyed the video and your comments cheers old Andy from Australia 😊

First time I've watched one of your videos and enjoyed it, but just to sit in pedants corner for a second, the rake isn't the angle of the forks, it's the angle of the headstock to the wheel spindle. Some bikes have the wheel spindle behind the forks, which changes the angle. Anyway, enough of me being a smartarse, I'm going to watch some more of your videos.

Love your videos and thanks for this review. I'm looking at buying either the T100, T120 Bonneville series, Moto Guzzi v7 Special and this beauty the cb1100rs. Riding includes, country roads, mountains and highways in the US, any thoughts on which you would pick? I'm really leaning towards the v7 special, but this 1100rs is sexy too. I'd appreciate any insights. Thanks and keep the vides coming. Cheers!
