A basic insight to the Honda CB250RS, and no, I'm not an expert, just an enthusiast.

I’ve owned quite a few bikes over 45 years of motorcycling up to 1100cc but this humble 250 is absolutely one of my favourites…

I'm lucky to have a few bikes, but it's certainly a favourite of mine. Thanks for watching 👍

You forgot to mention these bikes have a feature I've never seen on any other bike - removal pieces at the back of swing arm enabling wheel removal without knocking the spindle out. I went to South of France on one of these in 1988 and had to go slow so my mate could keep up on his yummy rxs and was doing 90mpg!

True, but I've yet to bother as most times I remove the wheel, the spindle needs to be out of the way anyway!

I had a 250 N superdream back in 2001 when I passed my test, a big old slow lump but I felt like part of the biking community riding this big old bike round getting friendly nods along the way, my world changed when I got a GPZ 500s later on.

It's funny how going from a learner bike to a 250 felt like a proper bike. Riding this RS now feels like it's tiny!

Mine was the same colour ,W reg 2 into one chrome Motad zorst , koni rear shocks now called ikon shocks , Reynolds heavy duty drive chain , Goodridge braided steel front brake hose . Magura clutch & front brake dog levers . 93 mph on clock solo, 87 mph 2 up on clock ,in favourable conditions on a good day . Cruising speed 65 - 70 mph all day about 70 to the gallon town & country . Best 4 stroke 250 ever built ,light bike = good power to weight ratio & great handling . Quicker & better handling than the GSX 250 4 valve twin Suzuki ,250 Kwacka Scorpion ,Yamaha XS 250 & Honda Superdream 250 . Rival bikes out around the same time . 👍

@maskedavenger2578 I'll be adding all those tricker parts as stuff wears out. But definitely the best four-stroke 250 of the era. Riding it back from the Lake District to Kent I got 80mpg!

@@BikesCarsandChat Yes deffo the best 4 stroke 250 of its time ,I did get 80 mph & maybe even more ,on some rides . I found with the bike being light for a 250 ,strong headwinds tended to slow it ,& use more fuel . Around 1985 Honda brought out a CBX 250 RSA single with a twin cam 4 valve twin exhaust port engine ,but it didn’t look as good as the original RSA 250 ‘s ,although the wheels had beefier spokes . It never sold well & I only ever seen one on the road . Also at the time ,there were loads of used Japanese 250 ‘s especially superdreams in good nick ,for around a couple of hundred quid ,for those who wanted a cheap 250 runaround come commuter , or just people who were into the 250 four stroke class . Just after I bought a mint Bandit in 2004 . I saw a brand new in the crate black / blue 1980 Honda 250 RSA ,same as my old RS for 3 grand ,never used or ridden . Had I seen that add before I bought my Bandit ,I would of had it myself even at 3 grand plus . That’s how much I rated the 1980 Honda CB 250 RSA ,& I love Bandits . PS typo ,it should read 80 mile per gallon not 80 mile per hour 👍

Thank you so much for this video, can you come along with me on Friday to check over one of these 😅 joking aside I do feel a lot more informed I’m not at all mechanically minded, I just buy and ride Super excited to jump onto this style of bike, my last purchases was a 2008 R1 :/ Looking to get the CB250RS for the next Malle mile, fed up of rocking up without a bike Obviously will do some rallies throughout the year. At my age 43 I’m looking forward to plodding along and enjoying the ride 🙏

You are more than welcome! The RS is a cracking little bike, and would be perfect for the Malle 👍 I went all around Wales on mine in July, from Kent, and it was perfect for a little plod 😁

When I was 17 I had one of these, and the decompress cable snapped. Try disconnecting yours and kicking it over!

Not sure I'll give it a go without boots on 😉🤣

My rear shocks on my RS look pretty rusty/grim should I replace them ?
@BikesCarsandChat2 ай бұрын
Are they original? If so, at 40 years old they are probably due for replacement. I fitted some cheap generic ones from eBay and they worked fine, but then bought another RS and took the Hagons off it. You don't need Ohlins, the rest of the chassis won't mind. But they do handle nicely when set up. Thanks for watching 😁👍

@@BikesCarsandChatcheers I’m looking at getting some off motorcycle parts some chrome ones they’re about £80
@BikesCarsandChat2 ай бұрын
@scott9631 if they are Hagon they will be spot on, otherwise they may just be cheap ones with some chrome on them? But to be fair, the cheap ones work fine for how the RS rides 👍
