Thanks guys. I did a cb 750 a couple years ago. Needed a top end job cause of a stuck piston. Now I'm on a 69 cl 450 scrambler. I had to take the 750 in to have the timing set cause I just couldn't get it myself. Also was confused on how to get the timing chain off the 450 too. Now I see I've been ignorant about one tool. Chain breaker... Lol. Thanks, I needed that. Not a mechanic but more of a do it yourselfer. So I just didn't understand how these things were done in a proper shop.

Thanks so much for sharing these videos. I recently received a 450 project with the engine already disassembled and your disassembly videos are very helpful.

I did this to my 1966 cb450 in 68. I had the bike in storage while I was away in the navy for 2 years. I filled the whole engine unit with oil to keep it from rusting. My dumb ass brother took it upon himself to drain the oil and put the rite amount back in then drove it. That would have been ok but he decided to loosen the cam chain tensioner adjuster and shoved it in. that caused the o rings on the cams next to the chain to shred. They got into the oil and the reciprocation oil pulsations trying to pull oil through the mostly plugged screen(factory casting defect) broke out a hole in the pickup screen. o ring parts got into the pump ball valves and destroyed the whole top end of the engine. So, make sure the oil screen has no obstructions(casting flash) that would cause the pump to pull from a small hole instead of the whole screen. replace the o rings with good ones and never over tighten the tensioner. when running correctly this is a powerful, reliable and great engine.

I really eould take away the cam chain tensioner FIRST, THEN the cam bearings. That's just me, though. Interesting video.

Are higher lift/longer duration aftermarket cams available for this engine?

Can this be done with the engine in the bike?
@Common-motor3 жыл бұрын
no, to get into the CB/CB450 or CB500t engine it has to be removed from the frame

How different is this from a 74' CB450?
@davess3578 жыл бұрын
+Venomrs4 -- Exactly the same from 1965 to 1974? (I think '74 was the last year) They had a four speed trans from '65 to '68. Other than that, all 450 twins are the same, just slight changes to cam profiles and compression ratios, is all.
