Most sensible motorcycle video I’ve watched in a while

If you like the looks then get it. The same with retro bikes or cruisers. Performance doesn't mean the same to everyone. Some just like a certain degree of performance. Track performance isn't that great for everyday riding. I owned an MT07. It was ok and did what it was made for. I'm not into stunt riding so some of the abilities that bike has didn't appeal to me. It was great on the interstate and back roads but I got board with it. If that is your jam then go for it. I traded it in on a 2023 ZX4RR which was right up my ally. I've had it for a year now and still love riding it. It isn't as comfortable as the MT07 or as powerful down low but it puts a smile on my face and at the end of the day that is what it is all about.

I have the exception to your description of an inline 4. I have a CBF600 SA which is an inline 4 but it's sitting position is upright and comfortable and it's engine which is from the CBR600RRR is tuned for real world use with low speed torque and slower top speed, its still plenty fast but suitable for daily use or long distance.

Yes, the Japanese used to make a bunch of inline 4 standards and cruisers. They were nice but most of them are gone now. It’s a bit of a shame.

CBR500R, originally CBR400R actually made sense when it was born. It was competing with ER6F (aka Old Ninja 400) for small 'sports touring' market. They're both heavy and relatively underpowered... for the US. Back in Japan, they both make sense. They have big bike feel on a 400cc license which means they're marketable to 16 years old. Yet very comfortable to ride. However, after several revision, Kawasaki abandoned ER chassis and Honda revised CBR to what we know now, which is less comfortable but looks cooler. And when Honda comes to US, they gave it 500cc engine (which unfortunately headcapped by EPA)

I have 80,000+ miles on my 2014 cbr500r. Still going strong but been thinking of buying a used cbr500r engine with low miles to swap with my current one.

I think you just tested the actual bike Noraly of Itchy Boots fame owns in the Nederlands. And it seems like a nice beginer's bike, but a bike an experienced rider would enjoy. Cheers from the Pacific West Coast of Canada

This guy is a genius but also I've been saying for a couple years now the CBR 500R is a sports bike by looks only and that's what they intended to do guys like yammy noob got it all wrong they're not trying to compete with the Ninja 4 or 500

I hope Honda eventually decides to add their E-Clutch system to their 500cc class of bikes. Since it works well with their 650 class.

Additional cost maybe for sure for an upgrade E clutch system 😅

With the range it has that would make sense.

Nice bike. For me, I would prefer the more upright riding position of the CB500F/ Hornet 500 as a more practical daily driver. Also, back in the 80’s when I started riding, we did have “naked/retros.” They we’re just regular motorcycles. 😎✌️🇨🇦

There's nothing inherently wrong with this motorcycle in isolation. It's when you compare with the market that things fall apart; weight, power, sound, excitement, technology. CF Moto 450SS ($5699 MSRP), Kawasaki Ninja 500SE ($6399 MSRP), Aprilia RS457 ($6799 MSRP) all offer more exciting *much less weight,* same or more horsepower. So either the person who buys the Honda just loves the brand, or they just want a lot less motorcycle in this class, for their money.
@bboykiddblack3 ай бұрын
Honda is more visually appealing than those bikes and is the most premium 500 on the market. Weight equals stability on the highway, great for beginner riders, these are A2 entry level bikes, not made for "excitement" but quite the opposite, ease of use

Good video, but the quality for some reason looks bad. I do like your opinions on the matter, although I think the Ninja 650 is better.

I get that the 500 Honda twin is an older design, and doesn't have the character or performance of some of it's rivals, but what I don't get is why it is so expensive. I guarantee that I won't be paying the Canadian retail price on any of the Honda 500 twins.
@exothermal.sprocket4 ай бұрын
Weighs significantly more. Costs significantly more. Has less power. Revs less high. Those are strong detractors for cross-shopping people. The bike competes in the 450cc class and it's about 55+ pounds heavier than the nearest competitor. CF Moto 450SS, Kawasaki Ninja 500SE, Aprilia RS457.

I've looked at the Honda 500 series of bikes several times & kinda like the 500X but my pull to it has to do with being able to do the speed limit on the highways..... that's a powerful need that many dual sports are short on giving? Thanks for the review.
@DifferentSpokesTV4 ай бұрын
Yes, 47hp is more than enough for the highway. While it’s nice to have more, it’s not strictly necessary.
@diggy-d8w4 ай бұрын
I've looked at this bike a couple of times over the years & I liked how you presented.... a lot of channels are more about doing a lot of bikes(Too Many?) & I question whether they owned & rode it long enough to make statements that were deeper than their biased opinions? Don't get me wrong, I don't mind someone liking a brand name but I don't like them to get a loaner for 2 days & make a video before returning her on Monday morning? And I liked seeing how this motor has been applied across different platforms..... interesting stuff to know & I've got a file full of 500x stuff an another PC I need to add to.... thanks man & I'll see ya next time. peace

Manufacturers peaked motorcycles about 2005. Ever since, it's been a downhill affair with no real innovations, just chucking tons and tons of tech and gizmos at bikes to drive up costs, while offering nothing inherently innovative or fundamentally different than existed in the 1990's and early 2000's before inflation and economic savagery kicked in. They deceive the market by boasting of horsepower figures, electronic controls, flashy displays, blah blah blah. The reality is even the 220 horsepower superbikes are severely limited by the ECU unless the buyer spends another 3-4 grand in the aftermarket to access the power. Meanwhile a lot of good things were X'd off the manufacturers' lists and no longer exist, like big-bore four cylinder street bikes that produced stump-pulling torque right off idle, were smooth as a turbine, and very affordable. No longer exist. Now they are putting traction control on 650 street bikes (there's that cost-drive-up issue I mentioned; overall manufacturer profitability in a rotten economy with stupidly restrictive and costly regulations).

The honda is more stabile and comfortable at all times and doesn’t get pushed around by the wind as much as it’s competitors, which is pretty damn important if you live in a place that’s always windy like Oklahoma. if you listened to the video you would know that at least bruh. I prefer the ninja myself as well but it’s not better at everything. Ninja is for young people that don’t have much money, or people that just want a cheap daily sport bike. Honda is clearly aimed towards the more mature crowd that doesn’t ride as aggressively and want a really nice but not to fast bike to learn on or just commute on in style.
