Honda Civic '75 vs Honda Civic '95 vs Honda Civic 2018: what's changed?

It’s hard to believe how much the Honda Civic has changed since the 1970s. It’s now in its tenth generation, and looks much more like a spaceship, than a cute little car. Rachael Hogg has been to Spain to drive the 1st, 5th and 10th generation Honda Civics, and see what’s different. The first one was made in 1975 (1st gen: 1972-1979), the same year the Vietnam war ended, Microsoft was created, and Jaws was on at the cinema. Compare that to 2018, when Avengers: Infinity War came out, everyone tried to get rid of plastic straws, and the UK got stuck in the biggest heatwave… since the 70s.

The Civic started off as a small car but is now huge in comparison (and over styled). Getting rid of the fake and oversized air in takes would help this car a lot.

My dad's first car in the United states was a 77ish Civic manual complete with lots of rust for 1000$ in 86. Fun little thing. Nice to see the Civic line still strong all these years later

Just to say... M. Soichiro competition bikes were so fine tuned it respected pollution tests that came about 15/20 years later for usual road bikes... When precision and performance and passion are bound together you can do great things.

You made fun of the lack of equipment on the mk1 Civic but you should have looked at what else you could get for the price. Reclining seats with cloth inserts and reversing lights were not something you could take for granted on cheaper British cars. The reliability, ease of driving and precise controls were way ahead of anything from Ford or BL. And yes, they rusted, but that was common on a lot of 70s cars.

I owned a '75 Civic in the mid-1990s that had originally been purchased in NYC so it had gone through two decades of icy winters and salted roads. It only had a few tiny rust spots near the wheel wells and one on the hood.

I remember the '95 Civic so much, as a kid. Wasn't born before the 70s, but I know a real classic Civic when I see it. Compared to today's Civic, the performance numbers don't lie. It got higher and higher as time went on.

The 0-60 MPH time _was_ bad on the 1st gens, but it had a LOT of pickup in the lower gears so you could get to 40MPH in a hurry which made it a great car for weaving through traffic. You could also downshift to 3rd gear at very high speeds without any problems. I personally got my 1975 Honda Civic up to 95MPH on a straightaway, 90MPH uphill, and about 105MPH downhill.

I'm sure it has been restored. Can't tell the same thing for mechanics. Disgusting sound and weird moves on the road compared to the one we had. But it's beautiful, yes.

Rachel please can you and the team do a video about WLTP in terms of how it will affect car prices from Sept with plenty of detailed examples of different typesoif car. Although I accept it maybe a challenge to get any humour into this type of video 😃

Although I accept it's difficult to get cars that you are not reviewing simply to illustrate the different types of vehicle for WLTP

I'm really sorry but above the glossy painting this old civic is not in good condition. It is clearly jumping on the road and horrible. And the engine... help ! The sound is WEIRD ! Kind of dying engine. Almost an insult... But at least we can see it. I'm very sad because it is a very exciting sound when the owner takes care...

I'm sorry but she is REALLY annoying!! I would enjoy this step through time otherwise. I'm guessing her grandmother laid out the clothes for this video. I'm sure she is a lovely person....just grates on me with the over-engineered presenter mode.
