Honda Civic EP3 AC clutch and Thermal protector replacement. AC fix, clutch not engaging.

In this video I diagnose and fix my AC compressor clutch not engaging even though it was getting a signal sent to it.(Although I initially did not test far down enough in the system) The issue ultimately ended up being the Thermal protector that goes on the compressor itself and I didn't even need to replace the clutch kit. The cheap clutch kit that I used ended up failing within a year. The OEM thermal protector that I bought still works fine.
Thermal protector part number is 38908-PRA-006 for the Honda part number or 38908-PND-006 for the Acura part number

Nice work, man. Sucks it was actually the thermal protector. Is the thermal protector easy to replace, and is there anything i need to know when i replace mine? (I've never had to replace one). Mechanic friend said it was bad and is a known problem on Hondas. I've got a 11 crv and it went bad around 70-80,000.😒

Hello, My Honda Fit AC both cooling fan and compressor doesn’t work when I turn on the AC. Both only come on during high engine temperature. The condenser, cooling fan motors, refrigerant, compressor are new. Many thanks

Great video. I am curious you say you didnt evac the system and you replaced the clutch and coil on the compressor is there something that holds the front seal of the compressor in like a clip or did you just get lucky and it didnt blow out on you?

The clutch and coil are external to the compressor. They just hold on with the clips/fasteners I show in the video. No need to evacuate the system at all for this job. I've done the same thing on a few different cars.

I bet u can swap the ac clutch without removing the compressor from the vehicle I will find out in the morning and post.

Can that switch be bypass

Yes, it can but you have to be sure that is your problem otherwise you may cause some issues. It's like impossible to find that switch now so you may have no choice unless you want to buy a whole compressor

Can we change the thermal switch without removing the compressor?

U dont have to remove the radiator u can get the compressor out fron the bottom by supporting the vehicle and dropping the subframe a bit. Iots way faster and no coolant mess

That might work depending on where you are. I did not trust my subframe bolts to come out nicely being that this is a Midwest car.
